25.01.2022 Some more good news regarding Tripoli Way. The 80% plans for Tripoli Way were assessed at the recent Shellharbour City Council Traffic Committee. SCC has always been responsible for the construction of Tripoli Way but there are a number of reasons why the State Government should assist with funding. RMS Network have known for years that Albion Park traffic would soon be in chaos, we are there now but still no support from the State Government.... So now we just need the start date brought forward and the State Government to contribute to a solution for our traffic problems. After studying the progress of the design the Traffic Committee recommended that Council : 1. approve the proposed traffic facilities, signs and lines as shown. 2. undertake further consultation with impacted residents on matters including road design, traffic impacts, land acquisition etc 3. that Council and Transport for NSW discuss the road designs and land use issues in further detail at future focused meetings.

22.01.2022 The good news continues, another section of the new East West Link will open to traffic from Thursday 3 December 2020, weather permitting. The new section of road between Durgadin Drive and the Oak Flats interchange will connect the existing East West Link to the interchange in a temporary arrangement to allow work for the bypass to continue in the area.

20.01.2022 NSW Roads and Fulton Hogan want to hear from you! Tell them about your experience with the Albion Park Rail bypass project team by Monday 17 August

18.01.2022 Cleary Bros are asking for comments re this project The Albion Park Quarry - Proposed Stage 7 Extension. A link to the updated website is shared below.... http://www.clearybros.com.au/albion-park/APQ7/

18.01.2022 The APCC recently spoke with our Premier the Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MP about our traffic problems in Albion Park. The Premier then passed on our case to the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads. Today Gareth Ward arranged for representatives from the APCC and SCC to meet with Hon Paul Toole Minister for Regional Transport and Roads to discuss Traffic Problems in Albion park. It was pointed out to the Minister factors that are affecting our traffic, both now and into the... future. They are flooding, rapid housing development and construction of the APR Bypass. The Illawarra Highway, (aka Tongarra Rd) is a State Road that links the Southern Highlands and beyond with the Illawarra and South Coast regions. RMS Network has known for many years that traffic along Tongarra Rd has reached gridlock, but nothing has been done, or planned. It was pointed out to the minister that there is little opportunity to upgrade the Illawarra Highway. What is needed is a link between the APR Bypass to an alternate route around the CBD that will divert traffic away from the Illawarra Highway and the Albion Park township. Shellharbour City Councils solution is to construct the long-planned Tripoli Way, which will provide an alternate route around the CBD. Tripoli Way is a Shellharbour City Council project and was planned for 2027 to be built in conjunction with the APR Bypass and link to Calderwood Valley. With the Bypass starting earlier than planned, Council is missing the opportunity for the two projects proceeding together. It was made very clear to the Minister that a CBD alternate route is needed now and if the State Government cant upgrade the Illawarra Highway, they should then assist with funding to enable Tripoli Way construction to start soon. APCC RECOMMENDATIONS: a. Provide a link between the APR Bypass to an alternate route around the CBD that will divert traffic away from the Albion Park township. b. Funding for Tripoli Way or an alternate route around the CBD from the NSW Government to enable construction to start ASAP. c. Provide a link between the APR Bypass Southern Ramps to Tripoli Way to divert traffic away from Tongarra Rd and the Albion Park township. Our thanks to Gareth Ward and his staff for organising our meetings with the Premier and Minister Toole. Well done to our Mayor and SCC staff for their input today, everyone did a great job.

17.01.2022 NEWS from Fulton Hogan - Albion Park Rail bypass - new bridge into Albion Park now open to traffic Dear stakeholder The first of the project's 13 bridges is now open to traffic. When the project is complete, this bridge will become the southbound exit ramp into Albion Park. The bridge is 65 metres long, and has ten Super-T girders, each 1.5 metres deep and weighing more than 60 tonnes. ... The video below shows our crew working to deliver this exciting project milestone. We thank the community for their patience during the weekend closure of the Illawarra Highway between 15 May and 18 May. With your help we were able to safely open the bridge to traffic on Monday 18 May. Yours sincerely Albion Park Rail bypass community relations team See more

16.01.2022 Recycling at its best for a project on budget and ahead of schedule, great news

16.01.2022 Some great news for Calderwood Christian School with Shellharbour City Council Traffic Committee recently approving the installation of a Children's School Crossing at the school. Children living locally will now be able to safely walk or ride to school after Lendlease have constructed a temporary footpath for the children and now SCC will install the crossing.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Ray on his impending retirement, you have worked many years for this. Ray and his News shop were foundation members of our APCC, supporting our work for the community. Our very first task was stopping the RMS NO STOPPING along Tongarra Rd as all the shops would have gone broke and closed shop. This was the first of many discussions APCC has had regarding AP traffic problems. Always happy to have a chat and a great source of an update about the Park. We ...will miss his commitment to our community. So best wishes Ray, enjoy your retirement, and stay healthy.

15.01.2022 Before we get too hung up on blaming the state govt, or the federal govt, or China for our covid situation lets review some facts : 1. We had to bring in mandatory quarantining in hotels, because we couldnt trust people to stay home after returning from overseas. 2. We then had to bring in security, because we couldnt trust people to stay in those hotels.... 3. We then had to bring in ADF, because we couldnt trust the security guards not to have sex with those in quarantine in the hotels. 4. We had to get police to door knock and check up on people, because we couldnt trust those who were meant to be self-isolating to actually stay at home. 5. We also have to have police and ADF reinforce the metropolitan melb zone and state borders, because we cant trust people to follow the restrictions. 6. We are now being asked to use masks, because we cannot trust people to social distance when they are in public. 7. Through it all, our supermarkets have had to introduce shopping restrictions because we couldnt trust people to not to take more than what they needed. So we can get as mad as we want at politicians or health officials for imposing restrictions, or the country where the virus originated, but essentially its our own fault that we find ourselves here. Selfishness and lack of empathy seems to be as much of a disease as covid itself. Copied and pasted. Will you do the same!

14.01.2022 FYI: If planning on visiting anywhere in the Wollongong area we are doing OK here right now with COVID cases. We watch in horror as the rest of the country spikes and wonder how long before it makes its way here. So if you plan on vacationing at our parks or our beaches this winter, I think you should know that red ants and bedbugs have infested hotels, motels and cabins across the area due to an unusual spring. Wild animals have eaten all domesticated animals and some small...er people. We have had rabid dingo sightings at every park and town. We have Bigfoots INVADING OUR PARKS. Echidna's are "stabbing" small children should they dare to enter the bush! Drop Bears have made their way over and multiplied at unprecedented rates and wander the local campgrounds in packs. Murder hornets!?! Weve got SHITLOADS of murder hornets. Not to mention the nasty redbacks! Head lice now fly... right beside the bats. So stay where you are, in your own town where it's safe! Seriously, PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE... AND, we also have NO TOILET PAPER!!!! We do not use toilet paper, so we all smell like shit so better stay away. Hold your finger to copy and paste.

14.01.2022 Some great advice from our Police.

13.01.2022 TRIPOLI WAY is another step closer! The Chamber has been working with SCC and Gareth Ward to bring forward the start date for construction of Tripoli Way. A proposed bypass of Albion Park will receive $4.2 million in state funding to develop the project. The bypass would see an extension of Tripoli Way, from Terry Street through to the Illawarra Highway intersection with Broughton Avenue. The long-awaited bypass - a project of Shellharbour Council - would see traffic along th...e Illawarra Highway and Albion Park shopping area substantially reduced. "We have allocated $4.2 million in funding to Shellharbour City Council for upgrades to Tripoli Way as an alternate route to the Albion Park town centre, so traffic from the growing Calderwood area won't clog up the Illawarra Highway," Kiama MP Gareth Ward said. "Pending Council's acceptance of the agreement, the funding will be used to prepare detailed designs, acquire land and gain environmental approvals." In further funding Transport for NSW will get $1 million to continue a traffic study into upgrades on the M1 Princes Motorway between Figtree and Dapto, which could lead to new on-ramps, off-ramps or additional lanes. Mr Ward said the work could allow for easier travel to and from the growing West Dapto area. A further $400,000 in funding will go to Wollongong City Council to help plan upgrades on Northcliffe Drive, Wylie Road and West Dapto Road, pending formal agreement. "This funding will allow Wollongong City Council to prepare concept designs and a business case for upgrades that will provide a fast and efficient link between West Dapto and major roads," Mr Ward said. 04.01.2022 Some big news in this message from Fulton Hogan Albion Park Rail bypass - traffic changes on Illawarra Highway from Friday 15 May Dear stakeholder... We will open a new section of the Albion Park Rail bypass to allow work to continue on the project. The new bridge into Albion Park will be opened to traffic in both directions. When the project is complete, this bridge will become the southbound exit ramp for motorists travelling to Albion Park. To prepare the bridge to open to traffic the Illawarra Highway will be closed between the Princes Highway at Albion Park Rail and Terry Street at Albion Park between 7pm Friday 15 May and 6am Monday 18 May, weather permitting. This allows us to construct road pavement on the existing road, complete line marking and install traffic barriers and guardrails. During this closure there will be no access for cyclists or pedestrians. Detours will be in place via the Princes Highway and Tongarra Road. We expect motorists to be driving on the new section of the bypass by Monday 18 May, weather permitting. Please follow the direction of signs, speed limits and traffic controllers during these changed traffic conditions. For further information please contact the community relations team on 1800 708 727 (toll free) or email [email protected] Yours sincerely Albion Park Rail bypass community relations team

01.01.2022 Many people are asking about flooding and drainage in Albion Park, especially during the construction of the APR Bypass. So here is the response from Fulton Hogan. Work on the project is progressing well, including the installation of drainage along the alignment. Winter on average is generally drier than other times of the year in this area. This is informed by a number of sources including the BoM data recorded at Shellharbour Airport and data collected from Albion Park Po...st Office. For more information on these trends you can see these results at the below links: www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_068241.shtml www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weatherData/av The project implements a Flooding and Hydrology Management Sub-Plan (FHMP) that forms part of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP). The FHMP outlines the management of the project during flood conditions to minimise the impacts of flooding on adjacent lands and the environment during construction. The project aims to ensure full compliance with all relevant legislative requirements, Conditions of Approval and Revised Environmental Management Measures and avoid any significant adverse impacts to people and property. The project is set up in a way that ensures there are no additional flood impacts on adjacent properties or roads during construction. This includes locating stockpiles away from drainage lines and watercourses and stabilising stockpiles to minimise erosion during flood conditions. Flooding in surrounding areas including Tongarra Road, Taylor Road and Frazers Creek may still flood during heavy rainfall as they did before construction started. I hope you find this information helpful! If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Albion Park Rail bypass | Community relations team

01.01.2022 APR Bypass Update - Traffic changes on the East West Link Another section of the East West Link will open to traffic in the coming months to allow work to continue on the new motorway.... The new section of road will temporarily connect the existing East West Link to the Oak Flats interchange. Motorists wishing to travel west on the East West Link into Albion Park will continue to access the road via the Oak Flats interchange. Motorists travelling east along the East West Link will continue onto the Oak Flats interchange using one of two lanes. There will be some traffic changes on the Oak Flats interchange during this work including pavement widening for additional lanes. We will be removing the temporary roundabout at the intersection of the East West Link and Cleary Bros quarry and will install a new set of traffic lights after traffic changes. Cyclists will be able to access the East West Link via the Oak Flats interchange. The northbound Princes Highway exit ramp will be widened and the cyclist shoulder lane reopened. For the safety of workers and motorists, some of this work will need to be carried out at night. Traffic control and reduced speeds will be in place to ensure the safety of motorists and workers. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control at all times. Electronic signs will advertise specific dates in advance. See more
