25.01.2022 TWITTER HAPPENINGS: Last week on Twitter, Journalist Juanita Phillip posted about dropping out of school to work and then returning to complete her education. I...nspired by her story, AHS Alumni Nicole Chettle posted a reply to Juanita (which can be seen in the photo below). While thanking Nicole for the mention, it was great to catch up with her. After more than 20 years in journalism, Nicole moved to the NSW Parliament as the Opposition Leader Jodi McKay’s Media Director. It is a very exciting opportunity where she talks to journalists every day. And like Nicole, Jodi’s from the country, and will be the first Labor leader from regional NSW to run for Premier. Nicole was genuinely grateful for the second chance she had at school to come back and pursue her passion. And she has done our school community proud ever since. See more

Picture shows Don shaking hands with the captain of the senior team, John Weissel. The side went through the season undefeated. 20.01.2022 HISTORICAL SCHOOL PHOTOS: School photos have certainly changed over the years. (From left to right) "The Boys" photo from 1940. Whilst the school was co-ed it h...ad a distint division of boys side and girls side, both inside and out side the classroom; the Leaving class (Graduation class) of 1927, these were the last students to attend AHS at the old Thurgoona Street site; and, the Leaving class (Graduation class) of 1928. This was the first year to attend school on what is the current AHS site. Wonderful photos such as these allows us to reflect and imagine what school was like then and what the students went on to achieve in life. See more

17.01.2022 Can you recognise anyone here? 1964

17.01.2022 Thank you to Craig Phillips for sending through this photo of his Dad, Eric Phillips in the 1936 swimming team. If you recognise or know anyone else let me know.

14.01.2022 Regretfully the organising committee of the Albury High School Centenary Celebrations have decided to postpone the event until October 2021. This will be our Centenary Plus One celebration. The reasons for this decision include uncertainty about regulations for the remainder of this year and the need for clarity to assist people with their planning. Many people may be reluctant to travel even if allowable. The school has also cancelled or reduced many functions and activities.... It is important that we acknowledge the school’s centenary this year. As a consequence we have a number of initiatives. This includes publishing a centenary history book written by past principal, Keith Crossley. This will be this be available in September this year and details of how to purchase it will be provided. The centenary facebook page will have links to a series of short video memories by past students. Should you wish to provide a short video memory please contact Margie Gleeson at [email protected] or via the AHS Centenary facebook page and she will provide you with details. The school is also creating a virtual tour which will be available via our website. Twenty years ago a time capsule was buried and current students will unearth this and put the materials on display. Albury City Council has also agreed to put a banner across Dean Street recognising the school’s centenary. Whilst not a perfect outcome I am confident that you will agree that we do need to recognise and celebrate Albury High School’s one hundred years of service to the community and the tens of thousands of students and staff who have created such a great history. The Centenary Committee apologises for any inconvenience these changes may have created for you but in these challenging and uncertain times we believe this decision is in everyone’s best interest.
