24.01.2022 'My own death felt preferable to anyone discovering I was gay' Former Wallabies prop Dan Palmer writes about how hiding his sexuality put him in a downward spiral, and why he hopes coming out will help others confronting the same struggle. By Dan Palmer... OCTOBER 30, 2020 See more

24.01.2022 "When it comes to getting help for depression and anxiety disorders, which are the most common mental health issues in Australia, talking on the phone and using online services can be just as beneficial as seeing someone in the flesh." COVID-19 has dramatically changed the ways in which we conduct all manner of day to day activities - even mental health consultations and therapy sessions. The transition to telehealth or virtual appointments has been signifcantly beneficial to... some, but challenging in many ways for others. What do you think about remote mental health access via telehealth? Have you had experiences with a Zoom consultation? We'd love to hear your thoughts below. https://www.abc.net.au//seeing-a-psychologist-via/12705482

23.01.2022 This month, our dear friends at ONE IN FIVE took some tangible steps forward for mental health with their #HOPE campaign. Selling their distinctive HOPE shirts with all proceeds contributing directly to mental health research, we couldn't be more proud to share the space we have in mental health awareness and activism with this organisation. Research into better understanding, and maybe even preventing, the impacts of mental illness on our community is so important, and we'...d love you to take some time to read more about ONE IN FIVE and their mission! Link is in our captions below to buy a TShirt and find out more.

23.01.2022 A date to mark on your calendar November 21st. This date is truly important to us at SOS&F, as it commemorates International Survivors of Suicide Day. It's a day to cherish how precious life is, and to remind your loved ones how truly special and important they are. And it's a day where our Survivors of Suicide and Friends team is reminded how the work we do in mental health awareness and activism is invaluable to so many. We are fortunate enough to be able to share another exclusive music performance with you for International Survivors of Suicide Day 2020. From the wonderful Archie Roach and Jess Hitchcock, stay tuned on our social channels for this beautiful song to be released on Saturday, November 21st.

04.01.2022 95%. This is the proportion of Aboriginal Australians who are affected by a suicide. Aboriginal Australians are uniquely and disproportionately impacted by issues surrounding mental ill health. SOS&F are encouraging you to read more about how our indigenous communities are affected, and learn more about what you can do to help.... https://www.creativespirits.info//people/aboriginal-suicid

01.01.2022 "Last summer's devastating bushfire season affected three in four Australians in some way: 20 million hectares were burnt, more than 3,000 homes were destroyed and 33 people died. Ms Nursey says in the aftermath of a natural disaster, the way people grapple with what has happened and the time it takes them to process it varies greatly." Going into bushfire season, it's important for us to all feel prepared and supported. Perhaps you could take this time to reach out to yo...ur neighbours and local community with to show support and solidarity coming up to this challenging season. https://www.abc.net.au//recognising-the-mental-he/12760568
