10.01.2022 CANA COMMUNITY COMPETITION created by @albusdesigns / perspective one of exterior - One of the main things I want to convey through my statement is that I have designed a space that the space is to be built by the people of the Cana community, This will be possible by using materials that are readily accessible from the surrounding areas. The highlight of the design and building process is the structural material, Cob, which composes an organic wall and ceiling form that flu...idly connects to the opening breakout space. Cob is a natural building material made from subsoil, water, fibrous organic material (typically straw). It has the highest thermal mass of any building material ever. In order to adjust to the extreme hot (days) and cold (nights) climate of the site, The building stays warm in winter as the mud, rocks and sand hold the heat long after the source is gone. For the same reason they tend to stay cool in summer through the extreme density of the material. In addition the structure contains polystyrene for insulation and the green roof and vertical gardens will maintain a reasonable indoor temperature throughout the year. Another design feature is the use of reclaimed oil barrels which have been used in more than way and more than one area of the space.
