21.01.2022 Sometimes we are blind to the most obvious things going on all around or within ourselves. In the ocean of suffering there are times when higher vision appears.... If we can live in both the material and sacred worlds, we can bring symbols of the divine light into manifestation through art. An attitude of materialism shuts off a person's intuition, by which the spiritual world is apprehended, because spirituality is labeled as a delusion. Once a person has a mystical experience, spiritual consciousness becomes associated with the ground of being and reality. Featured art: 'To See or Not to See' (1996)

21.01.2022 Thich Nhat Hanh turns 95 on October 11! To express our gratitude for his incredible contributions, we invite you practice and share about caring for Mother Eart...h, in particular how we can listen to ourselves, our loved ones, and the Earth. Continuing Thay’s legacy through our own mindfulness is the most powerful gift we can offer. Sharings and reflections will be accepted through October 6th. Here's how you can participate.

16.01.2022 We need to feel our rage; develop a razor-sharp understanding about why we are so angry; understand how to not harm others nor ourselves with this energy; neutralize this energy; and then focus this big, powerful energy on that which we DO want - on that which we want to create - in order to create a different world.... And we can only do this when we FEEL this rage. And we can only FEEL our rage to this degree and with this clarity when we are unmedicated; unmedicated from all things.

15.01.2022 Birthed this beauty into being today. It ended up with a purple hue to it and and the piece of Roo skin that chose me had a little scar on it. Those who know me know that this is special to me. Love it and can’t wait sit to play it when it dries. Thank you Sherrie and Chris @kupidabin_wilderness for the lovely experience

14.01.2022 "In our culture, we use the word dreamy derogatively to describe someone who is unrealistic or without ambition. But what thrills and amazes me about dreamwor...k is how often people say how grounding it feels when we do it! One of the reasons this is true, is that dreams are expressions of that larger ecosystem in which we are embedded. And it has a design for our lives within that greater context. So rather than taking our cues from consensus culture, which is predominantly ego & human centric, instead we are listening to the mystery which combines us. As Jungian analyst Ann Bedford Ulanov puts it, "the Self is that within us that knows about God." So when we come together in dreamsharing community, we experience this very clearly; our symbols begin to heal one another as we work within our psychic commons." <3 Dreamwork with Toko-pa Artwork by Sarah Vivian (www.sarahvivian.com)

13.01.2022 It's taken me nearly 60 years to learn how to hold steady when the world around me seems to be crumbling, and becoming ever more crazy. And in the end, it's a s...imple thing, really. Though, like all the simplest things, it's maybe the hardest to learn. It's a sense of my own calling, of personal vision, of that unique gift which, like everyone, I believe, I chose to bring to this world at this time. Focusing on that doesn't stop my dismay, horror, occasional rage but it helps me to hold steady in spite of it all. So if you're feeling unmoored, just ask yourself what am I here to offer, to become, to do. In all my teachings around 'calling' I emphasise that once you have a very clear sense of it, you suddenly find that you've lost some of your attachment to outcome. That doesn't mean you don't care any more, or don't want to work to change things. It means your locus of attention changes. Instead of asking 'What did I achieve?', or 'How much of the world did I save today?', you ask 'Did I give everything I could, and should? Did I live today in full expression of that unique gift I embody? Did I stay true to my calling, my soul-path?' The whole idea of that ancient notion that each of us carries a unique flame, brings a unique gift to the times in which we chose to incarnate, means that each of us has our own way to keep the fire at the heart of this world alive. (And don't let anyone, ever, tell you there's only one way to be, one set of beliefs to hold. Belong to your own vision, not theirs.) We'll never know the impact of who we are, what we do. But if we're being it, doing it with our whole hearts, with everything that we are and might become, with all the beauty we can express then I believe that's enough. Because none of us can be everything. We can only be, and fully, who we were supposed to be, in this world, at this time. (Image: Andrew Ferez)

12.01.2022 His Trans-Disciplinary thinking address the questions of our age -- particularly emerging during this time. He carries a wisdom we can rest in. How are human beings doing working out the Promethean urge (contra naturum) with respect for the subtle balances, wisdom and laws of nature? Take a listen to his points of view! A great remedy appears in his ways of seeing and holding the whole of the human experiment. -via Monika Wikman I love this interview especially around the 1:12 mark

12.01.2022 "Sometimes we must surrender our own will for the greater good to come through. We are called to make ourselves vulnerable for a time, without answers, sacrific...ing our priorities to perceive more mythic goals. The word sacrifice is not, as we've been taught, synonymous with suffering, but comes from the root to make sacred. We take a step outside of time, renouncing our urgency, giving up our plans and allow ourselves to be danced, to be sung, to be told like a story in its most vulnerable part of the arc." 11.01.2022 The loss of the feminine in our personal lives takes many forms, but many of us can live a whole lifetime without knowing what is at the root of our missing. I...t may be felt as a secret longing for a way of life, a feeling of inclusion, or a set of practices which are currently ridiculed in our culture as insipid, insubstantial, or even dangerous. Devalued for generations of patriarchal culture, our families and cultures are left with little to no recollection of how to esteem and tend to these qualities in ourselves or one another. These qualities are what I consider aptitudes of the soul. The feminine values the intelligence of our feelings; recognizes the necessity of ceremony and rites of passage; teaches the power of listening and being witnessed; holds the significance of intuition and dreams; it is sensitivity itself, vulnerability, and it honours the bodys wisdom. But perhaps more grave than any of these losses is the overarching ability to consider and tend to our belonging with one another, and with the earth. Thích Nhât Hanh coined the wonderful term interbeing to describe how no thing can exist alone. Every thing lives in relation to all other things. So what appears to be separate is actually a combination of interrelated parts. Toko-pa Turner, Excerpt From Belonging (belongingbook.com) Artwork by kelogsloops

11.01.2022 5 Ways To *Really* Be Kind To Yourself

11.01.2022 Weekly Ritual #5: Releasing ~Weekly offerings to create a ritual practice through these challenging times~ In the intensity of these times, old bits of the past... might be swirling back around you now, looking to be witnessed, or asking to be released. Take some time to ask yourself: What old things are coming back up for me now? What feels ready to let go of and release? Write each one down on a piece of paper. Find a fire-safe pot or cauldron to burn things in and light a candle. When youre ready, read each one aloud: Im letting go of _________. Light it on the candle, and let it burn to ash in your pot. Spread the ashes in the garden, a potted plant, or in the compost to be used as fertilizer for something new. 11.01.2022 I received the news that a dear teacher in my life has left this Earth plane on Friday morning. There was an unusual mist covering the forest particular morn...ing. I sat with the mist and felt I too was merging with it as I cried tears of losing someone that was such a humble and amazing storyteller and teacher. There was a large tree calling down the backyard so I went and sat with it. Next to it the wild, yellow and bright Wattle caught my eye and I said Yes and placed them at base of that wise old tree. He will now reside in the tree, the wattle the mist and the Mystery of all that is. One thing I loved about Tav that he really embraced all there was in being human. He really helped me to understand and embody what wholeness was really all about. When I was in a particular challenging place he would speak to me in a language I loved Myth. In True Lord of the Rings style he said: Like Samwise Gamgee told Frodo, when they were in Mordor, and they were looking down on an army of 10,000 orcs between them and mount doom, "There's nothing for it..." like, we got no choice but to go down this hill and keep on doing it... and that's what they did, and they got there, and after frodo came flying out of mt doom, and it was all crashing down around them, you know, his face was all lit up again, and he said, "It's gone -- it's done -- I can see the shire..." so, when i'm in my own version of your place, i think of this, and truth be told, it will shift -- it always does. all i can do is tell you what i see: i feel i know your heart and soul -- and when i see you, or think of you, i see the depth of you, who you really are, and i have no worries about you at all from that place. These words still resonate with me often. What a gift among many other gifts. I honestly feel like one of the lucky ones having known him. So I cant really say enough but this will do for now. From your swan tattoo, your wild shirts, southern accent and Gieger skull ring, I love you. Rest well in the Beloved. You will be missed greatly.

11.01.2022 ALIGNING TO THE REALM by Martina Hoffmann, 2015, oil on canvas. This image seemed appropriate today as we are entering another 4 weeks of confinement a...t midnight... When we are confronted with circumstances 'outside of our reach', the best way to flow is to offer ourselves, fully, to the experience, see what might be there for us. And then we may align ourselves with our higher self, inner strength and the higher forces that are always at our calling. Many countries will be facing this situation and we are, together, invited to stay in the moment and shine our brightest light. Personally, I will take this time to delve deeply into the world of creation and see what I can bring back to share. See more

10.01.2022 I'm starting dreaming circle here, to explore the wisdom of our dream makers and hold each others dreams with curiosity and wonder but not interpreting them. Here to shine a light on perhaps what we cant see ourselves and find the gold of each symbol but asking questions in a respectful and honouring way. Please feel free to join if you called.

09.01.2022 Rest is not for the faint of heart. To give permission for rest is to honor our limits - contrary to what we see modeled in our limitation-averse society. To ...naturally allow the body, mind and soul to rest is a kind of sinking down and in, that most of us are unfamiliar with. Its a slow cultivation of presence, rather than the development of skill and capacity. It is a way of saying yes to choosing ourselves, over and over again, especially when its difficult, and when the overculture doesnt give a damn about it. Resting is akin to loving. It is a kind of soothing towards the aspects of Self that have had enough. Its about creating solace and safety. Its a welcoming home of long-forgotten soul-parts that are crying to be laid down and tucked in. Tender places that are seeking to be held, nurtured, and protected. Tired hands and feet, grief-stricken hearts, and over-worked minds that are yearning for a blessing of nothingness. Its brave to surrender to rest, and to fully come undone. And rest wants to know... Will you stand for yourself, and will you let me be your companion?

09.01.2022 We think of rebellion as something we put to external service in the world: we become activists in protest of some wrongdoing, some injustice we must speak aga...inst. But I think there is a rebellion before the rebelliona more intimate form of protest speaking from and for the devalued feminine. The feminine has nothing to gain. She doesnt vie for leverage. She doesnt want to prove anything or achieve dominion. She does something infinitely more rebellious. She strips falsity and stirs up feeling in the anaesthetized heart. She awakens a kind of long memory throughout and beyond ages. She gives shape to the swelling and collapsing heart. That is all; but it is so much. Because when we sing with her voice, anyone who hears it remembers what they too have forgotten: that we are noble, and beholden to each other. Rebellion is the pushback on that long-standing amnesia. Like nausea rejects a poisonous substance, rebellion wants to see what is beneath falsity. What is really enduring when all else is stripped away? What longing, if we undam it, might pound through our lives, bringing life to the dryness of an over-harvested creekbed within? What if there is a story coming through us which is trying to find its way into the world? If we can withstand the trials of exile, can we have the chance at turning that story into something that shows others that they arent alone? Toko-pa Turner, Excerpt From Belonging. 09.01.2022 May you die and be reborn every month, like the Moon. - Babylonian blessing

08.01.2022 Trauma freezes the body. Our traumas literally get trapped in the body. Yoga is such a beautiful modality to get the energy flowing freely through the body. Al...l the beautiful shapes we make through asana allow the free flowing energy of prana to move through our systems once again. Dance can help too! Free form, fluid, organic movements are the opposite of the freeze response in the body. The breath is another thing that I notice gets frozen. When we are constantly in the flight/flight/freeze response the breath gets more and more shallow, it tends to reside in the high chest, and I find that often time the breath flips and becomes paradoxical increasing chances of anxiety and panic. Our committed practice over time can shift these habitual patterns. What a blessing and miracle. Today I am sharing a 75 minute practice. Breath Techniques For Reducing Anxiety at 10-11:15am central time. You can take class live or on demand. I encourage you to join if you find that you are only breathing into the high chest, can't find your breath when you need it, a shallow breather, or tend to be prone towards anxiety. We will work in a way to open up and free our breath this morning. You will walk away with tools to help you cope during these uncertain times. This looks different for everyone because our nervous systems are different. For example. Two people in a car accident will have different recoveries and processing. One may never want to be in the passenger seat again for fear of loss of control while another person may feel anxiety every time they see a car the same color to what caused the accident. Once the trauma (of any kind) is over, it’s imperative for our bodies to feel safe and that the threat is over to come back to a state of regulation. Animals in the wild who have been chased by a predator look around (orient) to make sure they are clear, shake their entire body and move on with their life. The reason so many of us still suffer from physical symptoms of trauma years later is because we are still stuck in that initial freeze state and never oriented our nervous system to safety even if you cognitively know you’re safe. If the animal in the wild didn’t have that shaking and discharge of energy, it would be stuck as well but they innately shake off the flight or flight adrenaline and hormones that flood the system. If we don’t have this discharge as humans, the energy of that fight or flight remains stuck or frozen in our bodies and creates armoring, contractions and tension. This shows up as the above symptoms. The beauty is that our bodies innately have the wisdom to heal. Our Nervous System can regulate. We can come out of this chronic Freeze state no matter how old and deep the trauma and freeze has been. Healing trauma on a Somatic level works with the innate healing capacities of our body. On a deep nervous system level it creates safety, ALIVENESS and can help bring you into this regulation and state of peace. You have the power within to heal any trauma. 07.01.2022 "Silence is a power because it keeps whats tender, whats vulnerable, away from scrutiny, criticism, dismissal, interruption, and exile. The keeper of silence ...has tremendous control. What she keeps sealed away can never be harmed so long as it remains hidden. Silence is a power, yes, but when does silence turn upon its keeper and become the captor? When does it inhibit the natural impulse to speak, the urge to sing, the longing to contribute? So many wait for the express invitation to speak, for some permission to be granted, to be coaxed into contributing. But what if this invitation never comes? When does silence stop us from fulfilling our purpose, or making connections with others? When does silence stop a healthy disagreement, like the one that names an injustice and invokes change? When is silence being complicit, when it should be calling on a revolution waiting to happen?" Toko-pa Turner, from Belonging: Remembering Ourselves Home (belongingbook.com)

06.01.2022 ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST I'm offering a free webinar, hosted by the Rowe Center, on Saturday 19 September at 5pm UK time (12 noon US ET, 9am US PT). 'Our an...cestors were wise women, alchemists, oracles and mages. Our stories tell of shapeshifting, of mysterious and life-changing initiations in dark woods, of intense participation in the web of life. Once upon a time, the Smith represented the deepest archetypal magic, and the Hero gained the greatest gifts by acts of compassion, not individualism. The West wasnt always what it is today. Somewhere along the line, and really not very long ago, we lost our way. How do we pick up the dropped threads, and follow the trail of breadcrumbs home? How do we carry our ancient native traditions forward into a new and ever-more-challenging world?' 03.01.2022 Weekly Ritual #4: 43 Days of Ritual . ~Weekly offerings to create a ritual practice through these challenging times~ . This week, I invite you to join me on my ...birthday ritual, which lasts the number of days I am in years. Create a small altar to hold for 43 days (I tuck mine away each day when not in use). Include a candle, and the items from each of the practices below: . Symbol: What are you calling in over the next 43 days? Name it and find an object to symbolize that thing. . Dreamwork: Do 15-20 minutes of dreamwork/journaling every morning. . Card-a-day: Each day, pull one card from an oracle, guidance or Tarot deck and mark the theme from your daily card in your journal. . Stitch-a-day: Do one stitch of a creative practice each day. That could be one stitch of embroidery, one stitch of knitting, or one step in some other creative piece. Your commitment is one stitch, but do more if you have space and time for more. . Gratitude: At the end of each day, write down something you are grateful for on a small piece of paper and place it in a gratitude jar. . At the end of your 43 days, ask yourself: How am I living into what is calling me forward? . Photo & altar by Kristen Roderick . 03.01.2022 In this op-ed, David Abram explores the paradoxes and ambiguities of the COVID-19 pandemic. As he searches for connection amidst isolation and seeks beauty in the midst of shuddering terror, he turns to the more-than-human planet. Only in our interaction and engagement with nonhuman beings, he writes, can we grow to understand ourselves and feel what it means to be human.
