20.01.2022 I thought I had to know exactly what I was doing before I started my journey. I thought I had to keep researching, finding out more, get all the answers. You don't. ... You just have to want something enough to put the fear to one side and start. Then keep going. What do you wish for?
19.01.2022 This is SUCH a massive bonus to being AF! Unexpected and priceless. You get to be in charge of your own self again ... OMG it's the BEST feeling!
17.01.2022 It isn't a straight line. There are ups and downs. Sometimes we feel like we're going backwards. But every step we take is a step closer to where we want to go.... How's your journey going?
13.01.2022 This is being hotly debated in one of the sobriety groups right now. There's a (old-skool) school of thought that says addiction is down to substance abuse due to trauma, hedonism etc. The "addiction is a choice" mentality. There's another (more progressive) that says that alcohol is an addictive substance.... If you drink enough of it regularly - and you're actually *expected* to in our society - you'll get addicted. Alcohol is addictive substance. Big Alcohol has been disingenuously pushing the "personal responsibility" line for years, exactly the same tactic that Big Tobacco used to get so many millions hooked. What do you think?
13.01.2022 Being a parent is the best. But it's also hard and challenging in ways we don't expect. When our kids were little, Matt worked away a lot and we lived in a remote area. It was also a new country for me, a new culture and a long way from friends and family. I'd been travelling and working on boats for years and it felt strange and isolating to have stopped. I started looking forward to wine o'clock more and more. And I loved it, but also hated it. Because I'd feel horrib...le and hungover the next morning. I felt like I had All The Things - so why was I drinking so much? I felt like I was insulting my own life. Ditching the drink was challenging, but it was the best thing ever. I felt like I was reclaiming my life. I was actually present for my kids. I got my self respect back. I was also a much better role model! I think this graphic is so true. Our girls are growing and getting to the choosing-peers stage. I miss the younger stage already, but I love seeing them blossoming at the same time. I'm profoundly grateful that I get to show up and be there as much as I can, now that drinking and hangovers are out of the equation. Time really does fly with this parenting lark. How do you find parenting? What's the hardest? What's the best?
11.01.2022 SERIOUSLY! our society is SOOO screwed up! The way we think about drinking is like how we thought about smoking back in the day. I think things are changing (slowly!) - what about you?... #whyohwhy #itseasiersober #alcoholresetcoach
10.01.2022 Wow this movie looks amazing, who wants to come & see it? What a storyline! " ... (it) centers on medical school-dropout Cassie, played by Carey Mulligan, as she takes revenge on men who prey on inebriated women at bars."
06.01.2022 I have a bad social media habit When I'm tired or stressed, I scroll aimlessly through my feed. It's not bad enough for me to worry about it too much (yet!). But I noticed I was "consuming" a whole load of junk. Ideas that didn't fit. Shouty male entrepreneurs. Wannabe influencers pouting in bikinis (world-travel pages).... Sooo ... I made a conscious decision to curate. I went through and deleted, left, unfollowed It was like a weight lifting off! We're always evolving and developing. We need to make sure we're aligned with who we are now, and what we're working towards. Now I have uplifting and positive messages in my feed The world is a good place and I think we have to consciously chose to believe that. I think we have to believe we are enough as we are, in the bodies we're in, doing the best that we can Feeling "not enough" is why so many of us turn to food or drink or other poor habit choices for comfort. Chuck out anything that makes you feel that way! Does your feed need a trim?
04.01.2022 Alternatives for wine o'clock PLUS Getting your daily dose of serotonin and endorphins These are some the things I did when I was first breaking the habit of drinking at 5pm every day: ... Choose your Alcohol Free drinks the day before Make sure they're treat-y and delicious, have ice, nice glass etc Put the alcoholic drinks away Decide on another activity - either one that keeps your hands busy or moves your whole body I used to walk at 5pm instead or put some music on and have a private lounge boogie Our bodies store our feelings, traumas and emotions. Moving them daily is so easy when we make time for it. Walk round the block, to the beach or if you can't leave the house - private lounge boogie!!! Do you want to have a break from drinking tonight? What will you do?
02.01.2022 We call this "our beach" because it feels like part of our family. We've lived with a few hundred metres of it for three years .... and now we're going to be 3km from it. Which isn't *really* that far but will make a difference . M & I went for a walk on Sunday morning and it made me think about taking things for granted. ... We all have so much to be grateful for, but it's so easy to forget what we have. I'm one of those people who's always working towards the next thing - running goals, life goals, just gimme a goal - and sometimes I just need to slow down and look around me. Isn't this beautiful? Excuse the cheese but I do feel #soblessed What are you grateful for today?
