23.01.2022 Racism destroyed in one minute #racism

20.01.2022 SAM TRANSLATES: Everybody's got all the four support categories in core now (go look at your portal!) - mix 'em up however you want between the four... UNLESS...... you get your transport money in your bank account each fortnight, then you can't use the rest of your core for extra transport stuff, which sucks. But overall, this is a great step in the right direction! Now you can look at your Core budgets as one big lump of funding and spend it on core stuff without worrying about how much is in each bucket - consumables (including low cost AT, Daily Living Assistance, Social & Community Participation, and Travel and Transport. Yesterday's NDIS Core Categories update in the NDIS' words: "15 June: How will I know my plan is now flexible across all four support categories? From 13 June, all participants with Core supports can use all four core funding categories under their Core supports budget, without the need for a plan review. Participants who already receive periodic transport payments will continue to have these paid into their bank account, to cover transport costs connected to activities included in their plan. These funds cannot be used towards other Core supports. If you receive periodic transport payments, you will be able to use your funding across the three Core support budget categories, not including the transport category. Participants who do not receive periodic transport payments can use their overall funding flexibly to pay for transport-related costs to access NDIS supports and services. You do not need to do anything. This system change will be applied to all new and existing participant plans with Core support funding. This means flexibility in accessing the disability related supports you need to achieve your goals." https://www.ndis.gov.au//participants-co/using-your-budget Pic desc: a table listing the 15 support categories and their flexibility, in purple and orange with black writing and a Growing Space logo in the bottom right. Here is the text of the table: SUPPORT CATEGORY CORE 1. Assistance with Daily Living 2. Travel and Transport Mobility Allowance 3. Consumables 4. Assistance with Social and Community Participation Can be spent across support categories CAPITAL 5. Assistive Technology 6. Home Modifications Restricted to specific line items CAPACITY BUILDING 7. Coordination of Supports 8. Improved Living Arrangements 9. Increased Social and Community Participation 10. Finding and Keeping a Job 11. Improved Relationships 12. Improved Health and Wellbeing 13. Improved Learning 14. Improved Life Choices 15. Improved Daily Living Allocated at support category level and not flexible across categories

18.01.2022 I received this feedback about my new book from a principal I admire. While she praises the book, my wife and dearest friend, Sharon, calls TEACHING VALUES of B...EING HUMAN my mistress because I’ve spent so long with her. This principal wrote, Mark, I'm sending copies of your new baby to staff to have a look at and consider using it for our internal professional development. I watched the promo video #1 and almost cried; we have some terribly vulnerable kids who don’t remember that they are loved. What you describe is exactly what I have been on about this year thank you, because these vulnerable kids are coming out of the woodwork at the moment (in line with the parent mental health issues too). Thanks for writing an honest book with such practical and humane responses! https://teachingvaluesofbeinghuman.com.au/webinars.html

11.01.2022 SAM TRANSLATES: NEW SDA (house building and living) STUFF Delivering the NDIS plan: more choice and flexibility for SDA 18 June 2020... Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Stuart Robert, today announced more flexibility and increased choice for participants to live with their families, friends and partners. SAM TRANSLATES: Today the Minister announced stuff that everyone would have assumed was already in place and are shocked to learn it wasn't. Changes to Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) rules mean couples will be able to share a bedroom where they choose to do so, and children will be able to share a room with their parent or siblings. SAM TRANSLATES: Families who have a disabled person can now actually live together with other, y'know, like a family, and still get SDA funding and kids can even have bunk beds and stuff, like kids do. SDA is designed for NDIS participants who cannot live in mainstream housing because of extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, but who want to live independently from carers, or whose needs would be best met through SDA. SAM TRANSLATES: I don't actually know what this means. Minister Robert said the changes are another important step towards helping people with disability reach their goals and live independently. SAM TRANSLATES: Yep. This is important. ‘The NDIS enables people with disability to live more independently and one of the most fundamental aspects of all our lives is having choice and control over where we live, who we live with and the supports we need,’ Mr Robert said. SAM TRANSLATES: Yep. This is important ‘We are improving the range of options available to participants who have SDA in their NDIS plans, while also stimulating growth in the SDA housing market. SAM TRANSLATES: We're working to make sure there are more houses for people with unmet access needs. ‘The changes will improve choice for eligible NDIS participants, build market confidence and drive stronger investment in SDA across Australia.’ SAM TRANSLATES: We're working to make sure there are more houses for people with unmet access needs. Today’s announcement also builds on changes being made as part of the Morrison Government’s plan to deliver the NDIS, particularly in delivering better long term outcomes. Previously, the Government has announced a new SDA Design Standard and an SDA Innovation Plan. SAM TRANSLATES: We, the government are awesome, please notice that. It is estimated that around six per cent of NDIS participants will have SDA in their plans when the scheme reaches maturity, or around 28,000 participants. SAM TRANSLATES: Not many disabled people will get SDA funding. For more information, visit www.ndis.gov.au. https://ministers.dss.gov.au/media-releases/5911
