05.01.2022 Vehicle stopped after travelling through active roadworks zone, 76kph over the posted speed limit near Nyngan. About 9:30am on Monday the 7th June 2021 officers... from Central North Highway Patrol detected a Toyota Fortuner travelling on the Mitchell Highway Nyngan at 116kph in a signposted 40kph roadworks zone. This section of road had a reduced speed limit signposted to be 40kph and was being controlled by traffic control lights and restricted to one lane for traffic. The road was unsealed consisting of uneven dirt and gravel posing a significant danger to the high number of workers on and near the roadway at the time. Police stopped the Toyota and spoke to the driver a 45 year old man from Dubbo and he was issued with an infringement notice for exceed speed limit by more than 45kph and his driver licence was immediately suspended for a period of six months. Road work speed limits are in place for the safety of those working on or near the road and due to the roads changing surfaces which can increase risk if travelled on at speed. If roadwork speed limits are in place you must abide by them even if no workers are present. In this instance all the workers present were unharmed. *stock photo used*
