22.01.2022 They also served Lest we forget
21.01.2022 Group training tomorrow will be a calm socialisation session, with some obedience work too.
20.01.2022 One of the fundamental basics of dog training - only give a command once!
20.01.2022 The Art of Calm It’s a beautiful sunny spring day and people are out doing things with their dogs. Walking their dog.... Throwing a ball for their dog. Letting their dog play with other dogs, or sniff and explore. But what many people are failing to do is to do nothing with their dog. How often do you just sit with your dog? Watching the world go by but doing nothing? Just sitting at the side of the park calmly watching all that happens. Sitting on the lawn out the front of your home, you and your dog relaxing and calming observing the neighbourhood. Most dogs are always active, ready to react to what’s happening around them. Modelling and practising calm observance of the various stimulations in the area, teaches your dog how to relax, how to switch off. The art of being calm is what majority of dogs struggle with, but like many things this is a behaviour you can teach. Resting calmly, not because they’re tired, not because they’re in training, but because it’s an ideal state for your dog to be able to enter into. It should also be a bonding time for you and your dog, the two of you relaxing, not being distracted by the things around you both. Enjoying just sitting quietly together, gently stroking and talking to your dog. Some dogs can relax into this state easily but for others who are high energy or easily distracted this can take practise. Take some time today to start working on the art of calm.
12.01.2022 No group session this Saturday. Enjoy the sunny weather and see everyone next weekend. If you’ve been invited but haven’t yet come to our group sessions we’d love you to give it a try. Here’s what one of our client’s had to say :... When Barney & I finished our private lessons & were invited to the group sessions, I was really worried that he wouldn't behave or my skills I had learnt wouldn't stack up, or worse still, the group wouldn't welcome us. How wrong was I! Everyone was so friendly & we made some lasting friends. Don't feel that you won't fit in (having a GSD helps!), this is a fantastic group where you can hone what you have learnt, get great advice, talk to people who are on the same wavelength & above all, make new friends - human & canine alike, go along & just have fun, we did!
07.01.2022 The words that struck me from this article, regarding an attack by a dog that escaped its yard, were : The public need to know what is out there. I'm thinking of people's safety with this dog being loose. All he needs is one more slip up and the next person might be dead. What if I had been a child?" I often see children walking dogs alone, no adults with them. Some are struggling to hold on to the lead properly when the dog is highly distracted and pulling. ... If an off lead dog does attack, such as what happened in Dawesville this week, that is a horrific situation for an adult to deal with, let alone a child on their own.
