25.01.2022 Tomorrow is expected to be the hottest day so far in this spell of heat for the southeast of Queensland. Coastal areas will be largely spared the worst of the heat as seabreezes keep temperatures in the mid 30s, however those over inland areas will be very hot. Ipswich is expected to hit 40 degrees, and around Gatton 41-42 degrees. Those out on the Darling Downs will be even hotter, pushing into the mid 40s in some areas. Thankfully a cooler change will cause cooler conditi...ons later in the afternoon and evening, and will also help trigger some showers and thunderstorms. These thunderstorms will mainly be confined to western parts of the Southeast Coast and the Darling Downs and Granite Belt with most coastal areas likely to miss out. Weak wind shear will mean storms will move fairly slow, with the highest threats flash flooding and damaging wind gusts. Cooler conditions are likely on Thursday (with more storms inland), before it heats up again on Friday and into the weekend with more widespread thundery conditions expected on Friday. Attached is OCF Forecast Maximum temperatures and accumulated precipitation over the next 36 hours from the ACCESSC Model (Source: Weatherwatch Metcentre). Note: these rainfall accumulations are likely to be overestimated but show a general picture of where storms are expected.

24.01.2022 Something that may have received less attention yesterday due to all the footage of the giant hail was damaging winds causing many downed trees in a section of ...the northern Sunshine Coast between Coolum and Pomona. Southeastern QLD is no stranger to large hail, occasionally in the giant category, but yesterday’s ones in areas like Boronia Heights, Springfield Lakes, and some other areas would have to be up there with some of the largest ones I’ve seen in the region. 1st image - Thanks to Jane Cheng from Boronia Heights for sharing. 2nd image - One of the many reports of giant hail partially or completely penetrating through both roofs and ceilings into people’s rooms. Thanks to Leisa Stewart from Boronia Heights for sharing. 3rd and 4th images - Some of the countless photos and reports of giant hail smashing through roof tiles. Thanks to James Goss in Springfield Lakes for sending in these photos. Yesterday was the grand finale in SEQ to the recent thunderstorm outbreaks, and we’re now entering an overall quieter lull in activity with nothing more than the odd bout of very localised marginal storm potential. For now at least anyway. (Ken)

Brisbane picked up a handy 23.8mm with Hays Landing (Wivenhoe Dam region) registering 54mm. 13.01.2022 13:37 Mar 02 QLD Flood Watch: Coastal Catchments Between Cooktown and Rollingstone Details: QLD Flood Watch: Coastal Catchments Between Cooktown and Rollingstone... Issued at 1:18 pm EST on Tuesday 2 March 2021 Flood Watch Number: 7 Minor flooding is a low risk across the Flood Watch area during the next few days. If Tropical Cyclone Niran in the Coral Sea returns towards the North Tropical Coast, it may bring further heavy rainfall to the Flood Watch area over the next few days. Some uncertainty remains around the movement of the system. Catchments in the Flood Watch area have recorded significant rainfall over the last week, particularly nearer to the coast, and catchments remain saturated. River levels will respond quickly to further heavy rainfall. Daily rainfall totals of 30-40 mm are most likely, with locally heavy falls up to 100 mm possible, particularly near the coast. Rainfall totals may be higher dependent on the track of the cyclone. Localised flooding and disruption to transport routes are likely to continue throughout the Flood Watch area. 06.01.2022 Showers and storms to spread to parts of southern Queensland and northeast New South Wales. Posted on Sunday 11th October 2020. An inland surface trough combined with moist winds feeding into it and some colder in the midlevels of the atmosphere is expected to cause showers and storms to spread further down into parts of Queensland's southeast and New South Wales' northeast on Monday.... The bulk of these showers and storms is likely to be inland of the coast. Storm risk will be generally lower closer to the coast though some isolated activity is still possible there as well. These showers and storms are expected to linger in parts of southeastern Queensland and northeastern New South Wales on Tuesday. For the locations which do get showers and storms, an average of 1 to 10 mm of rain is expected on any of the two days and while higher totals of 10 to 30 mm or more can't be ruled out for towns which experience a heavier storm, these higher amounts are likely to be rather localised. Most of these storms are unlikely to be severe though one or two may cause brief strong winds as well as the locally heavier rainfall.
