20.01.2022 People often ask me what they should eat to boost their immune system and improve their vitality. My first answer is always ‘eat seasonal, local, organic food in that order of importance’. Food that’s in season provides the specific nutrients that our bodies require at that time of year. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine point of view, seasonal foods also balance the changes in temperature and energy our bodies are exposed to during each season.... For example spring foods are light and bitter and tend to stimulate gastric juices and bile flow after the ‘stagnation’ of the winter months, when starchy, root vegetables abound. This sounds like a far fetched claim but when you stop and think about it, it really makes sense

19.01.2022 We all understand that this time in isolation can have an effect on our mood and energy. One way that can help keep us feeling motivated to take on the day, is by creating an ISO JOYFULNESS CHART. It is a collection of mini joyful moments you can look forward to on a daily basis. I recently suggested to my children that they create one. I can't describe the effect this has had on the whole family. In the mornings, everyone gets up with excitement and quickly scans the ISO Joy chart on the fridge to see what special treat or activity is in store. If you're feeling like you need a "pick-me-up", then give this simple hack a crack!

19.01.2022 Self Compassion. Something we know we should do more of and yet we always put it on the back-burner. Did you know that our ability to feel compassion is genetically driven and it is related to dopamine metabolism in the brain? Here in Victoria, we are finally getting a taste of freedom. I think that now is the perfect time to take a moment and celebrate how resilient we have been throughout multiple lockdowns.... Watch the video below to learn the ways you can give your self-compassion skills a quick boost

17.01.2022 Testimonial of the Week Through my Unstoppable Program, I had the opportunity to work closely with Michelle and help guide her out of burning out completely. Now she is kicking goals and performing at her best - I am so proud!

16.01.2022 There isn't a need to compromise on our wellbeing and gut health when preparing delicious treats! Today I was inspired by National Waffle Day, although celebrated mostly in the USA, it seems to be a celebration I can support. Since we're celebrating my daughter's Fake Birthday (why not?) to bring some happiness during isolation, I ordered a waffle maker prior to today and tried my hand at this. The waffles were delicious! I love that the recipe I used from @cookieandkate cont...ains oat flour. Oats really pack a punch when it comes to their superfood status, and unlike many glamorous superfoods, they are available from local sources rather than having to fly them in from halfway around the world. Swipe across to read more about the many benefits of oats. I have added the recipe below, just in case you are thinking of celebrating #nationalwaffleday as well! https://cookieandkate.com/easy-gluten-free-oat-waffles/

16.01.2022 Being a performance expert focussed on genetics, I am obsessed with one question: how far can we stretch our DNA so we can achieve our maximum potential. There are two segments to my overall work: I coach business leaders who are feeling tired and wired and who are feeling frustrated by how this is affecting their ability to reach their professional and personal goals. I train professional teams in the DNA of Performance to help them achieve and maintain sustainable performan...ce in turbulent times and beyond. Throughout all of my work, I incorporate a DNA-based approach that guides my understanding of your professional and personal habits to help you achieve the highest level of cognitive and physical performance.

15.01.2022 I think it is fitting that today is #RUOKDay. Right now, the conversation around mental health is as vital as ever as we try to stay resilient in all that has been thrown our way. Make sure that at some point today, you call your family member, friend or coworker and ask them if they are okay. In conversations like these, it is a time to listen to their feelings, understand why they feel this way and always let them know you are there as support. Swipe across to learn more about what you can say to continue the conversation. Today also works as a reminder that every day holds the opportunity to ask the one question that could change and possibly save, a life. https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

15.01.2022 In April, I had the pleasure of joining @dramysilver for an interview with Kate Billings for Blacksmith New Zealand. On the "First Survive then Thrive" webinar, we decided to talk about "The Era of Pandemics". I truly do believe that what we all shared in this session, including the words of inspiration, unique perspectives and practical tools, are integral learnings for all humans. Especially as this pandemic and its effects may be hanging around for a long time to come! Click the link below to watch the recording, and let me know what you think in the comments https://blacksmith.co.nz/first-survive-then-thrive-webinar/

15.01.2022 Genes under the Microscope First up in my new series that seeks to explore one gene at a time, is the COMT gene. This is one of the most significant genes when it comes to how we lead self and others. This gene produces an enzyme that helps break down dopamine, especially in the prefrontal cortex. Most of my senior leader clients have a variant of this gene, which I have named The CEO gene. This increases their dopamine levels by 50% as well as increasing levels of noradr...enaline and adrenaline. This gives them an incredible edge when it comes to their leadership. They are gifted with much higher levels of focus, strategic thinking and self-motivation. They are invariably C-suite leaders, executive team professionals or successful business owners and entrepreneurs who have a competitive streak and a strong vision for their business and team. However the downside is that chronic stress can turn them into self-centred, no-comprise tyrants both at work and at home. Their cognitive advantage turns into a leadership disadvantage if they don't embed exercise, nutritional, dietary and lifestyle behaviours that help break down and reduce dopamine. Look at the images below to learn more about The CEO Gene and understand how this can impact your emotions and behaviours.

11.01.2022 Testimonial of the week Thank you to Robert for allowing me to really focus on your performance and use of shortcuts. The most rewarding part was celebrating his well-deserved wins!

10.01.2022 Testimonial of the week It really was a pleasure guiding Emma on her health journey. Just one of the many examples of the outcomes from my Reclaim Your Health Program!

09.01.2022 Resilience is built through tiny habits. It was an absolute pleasure to run the DNA of Resilience for the RTA in Queensland. Everyone in the team discovered their genetic stress signature and specific tiny lifestyle habits that they can implement to change the neurochemical balance in the brain for optimal stress response. ... What do you find helps the most when dealing with stress?

08.01.2022 The power of engagement - in a kangaroo costume! My trainer @marcstafford10 at @lifestyleadventuretraining has been absolutely amazing throughout the COVID pandemic and adapting to the many government announcements. Especially for us Melbournians, it has been a challenging few months. To keep us all engaged and energised to attend our morning workout, he introduced a range of weekly challenges to keep motivation levels high. And it certainly worked! Here you can see our fan...cy dress workout that was one of our funniest. So this gets me thinking, as leaders, how will you keep your team motivated and re-energised after the impact of 2020? Join me at my upcoming free online event, 'The DNA of Performance: 5 Steps To Re-energise Your Team' to understand how the interaction of stress and genetics affects a person's vitality and performance. 06.01.2022 How frustrated are you feeling today? Pausing and listening out for the frustration drone could be the difference between a high performing day, with effective and meaningful conversations, versus one of those days where you feel everyone and everything is getting in the way of your goals. Imagine what it would feel like to be able to turn frustration into a positive behaviour or emotion? If instead of frustrating you, that irritant became the trigger to channel a better you?... BJ Fogg, Professor of Behaviour Science at Stanford University, also a mentor and teacher of mine, has developed the science to do just that. After researching patterns of behaviours in tens of thousands of subjects over the past 20 years, Prof Fogg has developed a technique which he calls Pearl Habits. Click the video below to watch my latest #smarthack and learn how to start applying this super simple concept in your day

06.01.2022 Are you a leader looking to re-energise your team to hit the ground running in 2021? Last week I kicked off my first online event 'The DNA of Performance: 5 Steps to Re-energise Your Team', and given the great feedback I have decided to run two more on the 25th of November and 8th of December. Throughout these events, you will: Gain an understanding of how genetics affect your team’s levels of energy & motivation... Be able to recognise the different energy signatures within your team Obtain exclusive, time-limited access to my Team Diagnostic to assess your team’s stress signature Have access to an optional 30 minute complimentary session with myself to discuss your team’s diagnostic results It is no coincidence that some people have emerged from lockdown tired and mentally unfocused, while others have thrived. This has little to do with COVID-19 and everything to do with our unique genetics. In this provocative online event, I will share the real reason why teams are feeling tired and disengaged and the five steps leaders need to take in order to re-energise their people and reignite their motivation. 06.01.2022 "Bored people don't eat nuts" This quote by Dr Sandy Mann in the UK refers to the fact that boredom is often linked to eating junk or sugary food. Having nutrient imbalances can increase our levels of boredom by affecting the speed at which our genes trigger the production and breakdown of dopamine. This in turn leaves us feeling tired and lacking motivation. Having a healthy, whole food diet with lean protein, whole grains and plenty of rainbow veggies and fruit, will provi...de you with all the building blocks of dopamine, including the amino acid tyrosine, vitamin B6, Magnesium and Zinc. Start by swapping one sugary meal or snack daily for protein and vitamin-rich ones. Raw nuts, fresh fruit, colourful salads or stir fries with good quality protein like chicken and a daily serve of lentils, beans and whole grains like quinoa, will make a huge difference to your energy levels!

05.01.2022 In need of a natural remedy to help with your stress and anxiety? There are many benefits of drinking green tea, especially as it is a great source of a powerful amino acid called l-Theanine, the best natural remedy for anxiety and stress. Thanks to extensive Japanese research in the last decade, l-Theanine’s impressive benefits have started to emerge that includes:... - Decreasing anxiety - Improving sleep - Stimulating the immune system - Powerful anti-cancer properties - Protecting the brain from ageing - Antibacterial effects If you want to learn more about how green tea can help you, then click the link below to read my latest blog post "The Best Natural Remedy For Anxiety And Stress" https://alessandraedwards.com//best-natural-remedy-for-an/

05.01.2022 Three powerful words you can tell someone when they're feeling anxious: You Are Enough. I had a parent-teacher interview with my daughter's English teacher. The feedback was clear: she has a big heart, great creativity and is not delivering to the standard he knows she's capable of. She tried to keep a brave face but I could see the tears welling up in her eyes. After the call, I asked her why she was crying. She was feeling anxious because of her need to feel loved by those ...she respects and looks up to. As adults, there will be many more layers to peel off to get to the real reason behind our #anxiety. - Genetic tendencies - Old patterns of beliefs - Behaviours that don't serve us Through my years as a coach, whether helping a workaholic CEO with insomnia or a stay-at-home business owner drowning in overwhelm, once we've peeled off all these layers, it always boils down to these three words: You Are Enough. You are always enough. With or without COVID, with or without the fancy job, with or without lockdown restrictions.

05.01.2022 Revenge Bedtime Procrastination: when you categorically refuse to go to bed to regain personal freedom. As a reformed and occasionally relapsing 'RBP' user I get it. As a parent and business owner I often used to feel I was ‘owed’ a few hours on my own with the whole West Wing cast at night without tiny hands touching me. Do you think you are a RBP? Watch my #smarthack below on dealing with Revenge Bedtime Procrastination

05.01.2022 Today is #WearItPurple Day I truly do believe that the world can be a much better place with diversity, inclusion, kindness and compassion for ourselves and others. Through education and awareness, we can help all members of our community feel accepted and supported. ... So be sure to wear something purple today (even if it is around the house) to show your support for the amazing work @wearitpurple do and help spread awareness and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ youth community

04.01.2022 How do we deal with 'Kuchisabishii'? A Japanese word literally meaning "Lonely Mouth", that can be better described as when you’re not hungry and you keep eating anyway. This shows the loss of control that many experience when it comes to their snacking habits. Especially since #COVID19 where we have 24-hr access to the fridge and pantry!... The repercussions of this behaviour can affect many other aspects of your life. One of my #smarthacks on dealing with this is starting to snack on Betaglucare Oat Heart Sachets. You can buy them from most chemists. Including fibre, this snack will help calm down the snacking gene and keep you feeling fuller for longer. Do you want to know more about 'Kuchisabishii'? Then watch my latest Smart Hack below!

01.01.2022 Ladies, it's time to take care of You. Now is the perfect opportunity to think about whether you are doing all that is necessary for optimal health. When it comes to physical and emotional self-care many women tend to put their family, friends and colleagues first, before putting on their own oxygen mask. Unless we take care of self, we cannot truly be the leader, mother, daughter and sister we want to be. Through the last decade, I have worked with so many amazing women who ...have literally withered under the burden of always putting others first. This leads to exhaustion, resentment, anger and loss of joy. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, did you know: 60% of women are not exercising enough 92% of women did not meet the fruit and vegetable intake guidelines Only 40% of women are at a normal weight How do you make sure you're looking after your health and wellbeing?
