This exhibition presents Readymades highlighting the alchemical skill of the artist to see inherent artistic merit in existing objects. There is a hint of irreverence to the gallery context as these un-worked objects are elevated beyond the everyday and bathed in light.

FINK & Co has a long history of collaborating, mentoring and supporting fellow artists, designers and craftspeople. Fifteen creatives have been chosen for this project, al...l of whom have had a direct connection to Robert and/or FINK over the 27 years of the companys history. The 15 designers/artists have been tasked with responding to this iconic Australian design object in the manner of their own choosing, informed by their personal practice. The auction will go live at 5pm on Friday 26 June and close on Sunday 28 June at 5pm, with a percentage of the profits to be donated to to Headspace, Canberra. My Inspiration: For as long as I have made art I have used collage to work through ideas both stylistically and politically. It has much in common with the art of sampling in electronic music; cut out moments that may specifically speak to historical events or collective social moods. I am drawn to discarded and discounted picture books, art history, the life of JFK, the Epic of man, the history of the world lies in piles at tips, junk shops and thrift stores. I am particularly drawn to old atlases, reflecting on the hubris of colonies to draw typographical lines across diverse cultural landscapes. The exploration of these collected books is slow and meandering accompanied by similarly old records turning slowly under the stylist. I have tried to empty my mind when placing disparate images together drawing on what Jung called the Unconscious drawing, later exploring the finished work for meaning. My workshop is a haven for disconnection. For the Fink jug I have chosen a collage of contrasting images; the idealised female form lounging in the exhaust of supped up testosterone filled muscle car rampaging across the landscape. Demanding freedom to disregard the environment, demanding freedom without consequence. See more

The smoke so thick it seemed to defy all reason and the world’s axis groaning under the irrational denial. This is an exhibition that continues Alex’s preoccupation with climate change. The landscapes I created over that time seem distant and unreal, however they are a moment of truth and a vivid account of a changing environment.

10.01.2022 HOUSE BRICK 2020 Contour 556/2020- Mixing Room Gallery at Thor’s Hammer Curated by Neil Hobbs Within my HOUSE BRICK constructions, I have limited my palette to three materials: brick, timber and reclaimed concrete. My practice embraces an aesthetic of resourcefulness that arises out of necessity. Although these works explore architectural ideas and simplified notions of home, there is an underlying preoccupation with formalist composition however at its heart it is just series of blocks reminiscent of childhood play, a romanticised notion of home and perceived safety
