24.01.2022 Here's Anil Tortop with her artwork from Bat vs Poss, all over a glorious story-seat at Rosewood Library!
23.01.2022 Today the wonderful Children's Book Council of Australia have featured my favourite illustration in BAT vs POSS, drawn by Anil Tortop ... and it's a beauty!
23.01.2022 Had a ball with the kids at Macarthur Bookface and discovered some new favourite picture books myself (Bookface has a ton of brilliant ones we worked out way through). Thanks for having me BOOK FACE Macarthur Square!
21.01.2022 Lovely review of Santa and the Sugar Glider, from Readplus! What do you think, Anil? https://www.readplus.com.au/blog_detail.php?id=11247
21.01.2022 I had the best surprise this afternoon while driving my kids back from guitar lesson. Kinderling Kids Radio was playing on the radio when all of a sudden I heard ... the opening lines of Bat vs Poss being read aloud as their Story of the Week! Best of all, it's read with verve and charm by Buzz the Bandleader and double-bass player from Lah-Lah's Big Live Band! (That may mean nothing to some of you, but Lah-Lah and Buzz are my top kid's music icons. These guys are not only terrific performers but they're the real deal musically.) https://www.kinderling.com.au/st/bat-vs-poss-by-alexa-moses
19.01.2022 Alexa Moses and I will be talking/rhyming/drawing this Wednesday at Woollahra Libraries’s online event. It will be a first for me but having an unpredictable li...ttle monster at home scares me more at the moment. It’s for 4 to 7 years olds but if you want to find out if I will end up nursing online, adults with no children can join too! It’s free but you need to register: https://www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au//book-week-online-author- Hachette Children's Books ANZ
19.01.2022 Parents, if you're in Macarthur area and need an hour's sanity during school holidays, come visit the Macarthur Square Book Nook and I'll entertain your kids for a while! Thanks to BOOK FACE Macarthur Square
19.01.2022 Story Box Library has done a wonderful video of BAT vs POSS read by the excellent author Alex Lee Miles who writes the Olive Black series (she's obviously utterly charming and engaging, like everyone with the initials AM.)
17.01.2022 Met this adorable little guy in Centennial Parklands recently while wandering through. Love that face!
17.01.2022 Gearing up at SLR with the talented Melanie Alexander to write the second telemovie from Jacqueline Harvey's much-loved books. This one's called ALICE-MIRANDA - A ROYAL XMAS BALL. Can't wait to spend time with these females (the real ones and my fave characters) again. Love me some girl drama. https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au//10-09-alice-miranda-ro
17.01.2022 Pop in like this brushtail poss and come listen to BAT VS POSS at the State Library of NSW, and write poetry with me. I'm part of the Family Fun Day for kids at 10.30am on Sunday Feb 24 at the State Library in Sydney. Also speaking are writers Jacqueline Harvey of Alice-Miranda fame and Elizabeth Cummings with her Verityville series. Plenty of sketching and book-nerd fun for kids as well. 14.01.2022 It's been a rough year for everyone, and Sydney is buckling up for a particularly bumpy ending. For something adorable to distract your kids, especially if they're locked down this school holidays, tune in on Christmas Eve to watch me read SANTA & THE SUGAR GLIDER to Marina the Super-Keeper and Kandi the sugar glider @Wildlife Sydney Zoo. Go to https://facebook.com/WILDLIFEsydney or https://facebook.com/HachetteKidsANZ on Christmas Eve to watch the stream and meet the adorable gliders who live at the zoo!
13.01.2022 Here are the residents of the rainforest where Santa stopped by. Santa and the Sugar Glider, written by Alexa Moses, published by Hachette Children's Books ANZ is out!
13.01.2022 I love it when I get the first copies of a wonderful new book I've worked on. This is Christmas book SANTA AND THE SUGAR GLIDER, illustrated by the wonderful Anil Tortop, who brought BAT vs POSS to life. Look at that cover! I love it so much I'll be tucking it into bed at night beside me. Corky isn't as excited ...... Preorder here! https://www.booktopia.com.au/santa-and-//9780734419521.htm
11.01.2022 I think I scared the good folk at Kinderling Kids Radio with my gushing enthusiasm today. We've listened to and loved Kinderling Kids Radio in our house for the past four years, so visiting them was awesome. (I had to have a little lie-down afterwards from all the excitement). Kinderling did BAT vs POSS as their Story of the Week earlier this year!
11.01.2022 Yes, this is really how I often work in winter ...
09.01.2022 If anyone's Littles would like a Book Week treat (and you want an hour to yourself), please pop in like a possum online and join me and illustrator Anil Tortop at Woollahra Libraries, Wednesday Oct 21 after school. 09.01.2022 Who doesn't love a freebie?
07.01.2022 Gobsmacked and delighted. Bat vs Poss seems to be the little book that could!
07.01.2022 Yes! Children's Books Daily Megan Daley again nails it. This is not a debate worth having. Over and over again school libraries with dedicated teacher-librarians have been shown to improve student attainment, close literacy gaps, escalate graduation rates. TLs recommended books to readers, extend them, engage reluctant readers. Splitting up uncurated books and sticking them in a few shelves across the school does not a library make ....
06.01.2022 Are you sick of adorable Australian animals yet? No, me neither. Bat vs Poss is finally out today xxx
04.01.2022 Delightful picture book BAT VS POSS is out next week! Here's illustrator Anil Tortop's time-lapse animation of how she works to bring the animals and their city 'hood alive.
04.01.2022 I love sugar gliders and have always wanted to meet one in person, so when WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo invited me to read my book Santa and the Sugar Glider and meet real-life gliders, managed by Marina the unflappable keeper, I cleared my calendar. You'll have to watch the full video on Xmas Eve to see Kandi jump on my shoulder. Best Day Ever.
03.01.2022 Don't know how many teachers, teacher librarians and educators are checking their social media accounts while dusting sand off their feet, but if you are and are thinking about the year ahead, you might like to check out this fun one-day conference on Feb 26, 2019 at the State Library of NSW called CREATING CREATIVE WRITERS. 02.01.2022 Three writers, two schools full of funny, clever kids who love to rhyme and one inspiring book of original children's poetry #ABoatofStars HarperCollins Children's Books Australia
02.01.2022 I'm thrilled that SANTA and the SUGAR GLIDER is Kinderling Kids Radio Story of the Week this week. And I had a brilliant time reading it. Not quite sure I got Santa's voice right, but I nailed Warren the Wallaby's drawl. https://www.kinderlingkids.com/shows/story-of-the-week/
01.01.2022 Such talented writers and illustrators at the The State Library of New South Wales this morning for the Family Fun Day! Not only did I love the head-mike - I felt like I was giving a TED talk - I was excited to present to work with such creative kids. (Apologies to silver-fox dad for getting you in the pic).
01.01.2022 If you're poetry-minded and, like me, you're looking for a little lightness and joy at the moment, the wonderful KID's BOOK REVIEW has featured me writing about children and poetry. Worth a read if you're interested in reading more poetry to your own kids or experimenting with poetry with the students in your class.
