19.01.2022 Practicing the Alexander Technique integrates mind-body and doing thereby improving coordination, clear thinking, vocal production and presence as well as health and general wellbeing. The technique is popular with vocalists, public speakers, actors, musicians and those suffering chronic aches and pains. The British Medical Journal published a study that demonstrated benefits of a short course of lessons in the Alexander Technique were still evident 12 months after those lessons.
18.01.2022 A new client mentioned shed borrowed this book from her local library so i thought id give it a look. It provides a useful introduction for those not familiar with the uses and benefits of the Alexander Technique in an easy-to-read style with AT jargon kept to a minimum. Some key terms specific to the Alexander Technique included by Brennan usually have a short chapter dedicated to them and are explained thoroughly. The book focuses on the Alexander Technique for those with chronic pain. It is readily available on Kindle from Amazon for less than $10. #Amazon
16.01.2022 Super excited to announce the launch of our new publication, Body Wisdom, on Medium! This publication is for Alexander Technique teachers and other bodywork pr...ofessionals who discuss and explore the realm of healthcare ranging from pain to well-being. Thank you again to Robert Rickover for coming up with the name for the publication. And to Kirsten Harris for creating our beautiful icon! The first piece that Im publishing to our publication discusses the musculoskeletal disorders that many healthcare professionals experience particularly because of the occupational hazards of their profession. Physicians, dentists, nurses, aides, caretakers, surgeons and many others often experience just as much, if not more pain than the patients they are treating. Thank you also goes out to Aniko Ball who has paved the way for other healthcare professionals to come forward with their own stories and who continues to be my muse!:) If youd like to join our publication, please let me know in the comments below and Ill add you to our AT Medium group on Facebook which explains the ins and outs of Medium!:) See more
16.01.2022 Return to the Origin -- Leave Disease Names Behind When Chinese medicine was initially created in ancient times, there was no concept of , four diagnoses,... , eight principles. These concepts were developed since the Ming & Qing Dynasties. Zhang Zhong-jing did not invent the theory of six conformations, and he never gave names to diseases such as asthma or MS, but recorded symptoms and pulse of each conformation. A classical CM practitioner will never diagnose/treat based on disease names, because seldom patients with a same disease have the exact same constitution & symptoms. Symptoms of diseases are indications of abnormal movements of Qi, Blood, Thin & Thick Fluids and Jing-Essence in the body. For instance, when a practitioner asks a patient: "Hows the digestion?" He/She is trying to understand whats happening in the patients body. Some patients would answer: "Its normal." It raises the question of "Whats normal." What if a patient is used to having diarrhea or constipation for his/her entire life and considers this "normal"? Sometimes the chief complaint will disappear after digestion or bowel movement patterns are changed. When a patient claims that he/she has a cold, what does that mean? Not everyone with a cold has the same symptoms as everyone elses, and should not be given the exact same formula. The basic way to know internal mechanisms is to observe the bodys basic functions -- , the normal opening and closing of the five portals: 1. Sleep - how well Yang Qi descends into the Yin container 2. Sweat - how well the body expels heat & waste fluids through the exterior portals 3. Appetite - how strong and healthy the life force is 4. Energy - how well the body metabolizes nutrients and energies 5. Urination & Elimination - how well the body process wastes through the two turbid/lower orifices Keep the normal functions and connections of the invisible portals in mind, it is not impossible to understand and treat complicated cases.

11.01.2022 CINNAMON FOR RUNNING PIGLET. Cinnamon in Chinese is known as Gui Zhi. According to the Shang Han Lun, an ancient Chinese Medicinal text, Gui Zhi mainly treats counterflow. Counterflow is when things move the wrong way in the body. When descending energies mistakenly move up in the body due to illness, this can manifest as headache, hot flushes, palpitations or running piglet! Running piglet is a poetic way of describing the sensation of palpitations and anxiety.

09.01.2022 CONSCIOUSNESS IS CERTAINLY NOT SOMETHING YOU DO We discover consciousness by inhibiting unconscious behavior. It arises in the gap. It is something that is ther...e waiting, not something we create. And the nature of consciousness becomes very clear. Consciousness is certainly not something that you do. Marjory Barlow

07.01.2022 Thankful to clients and colleagues who have recently recommended me to others as a teacher of the Alexander Technique
07.01.2022 https://livingdaily.mykajabi.com/ I have seen for myself the wonderful benefits of the Alexander Technique. A man who had fairly advanced Parkinsons attended weekly lessons at my training course. One day his student teacher didnt show to his appointment and he was so angry he got up and stormed out completely forgetting his walking stick! We all watched in amazement at how alive and agile he was as he took off down the street compared to when he had first started his sessions many weeks earlier.
06.01.2022 High praise for the Alexander Technique: The Alexander Technique will benefit anyone whether they are an elite athlete or whether they just wish to live life w...ithout the aches and pains that many people suffer and accept as part of life. It is a pity that these techniques are not shown to us all at an early age for I have no doubt that this would alleviate many of the causes of ill health in our communities. Greg Chappell Australian test cricketer The Alexander Technique works... I recommend it enthusiastically to anyone who has neck pains or back pain. Roald Dahl, writer Alexander established not only the beginnings of a far reaching science of the apparently involuntary movements that we call reflexes, but a technique of correction and self-control which forms a substantial addition to our very slender resources in personal education. George Bernard Shaw, writer, Nobel Prize winner for literature I love the Alexander Technique. It has corrected my posture, improved my health and changed my life. Alec McCowen CBE, actor The Alexander Technique has played an important and beneficial part in my life. John Houseman, Actor, Producer and Director The Alexander Technique has helped me to undo knots, unblock energy and deal with almost paralysing stage fright. William Hurt, Actor The Alexander Technique makes a real difference to my often tense and busy life. Its thoughtful approach has made me calmer, improved my concentration and given me a clearer sense of my own well-being. I am grateful for it. Joan Bakewell, TV Presenter and Journalist The Alexander Technique helped a long standing back problem, and to get a good nights sleep after many years of tossing and turning. Paul Newman, Actor I can definitely say without hesitation that I wouldnt have had the rowing success that I have had the luxury of experiencing in my short time on the water, without finding the AT and the great teachers that I have had the privilege to work with. Valerie Thompson-Williams, rowing Masters gold medallist In the hands of a good teacher The Technique is invaluable to anyone who seeks to maintain health physical posture and alignment. Ralph Fiennes, Actor With the best intentions, the job of acting can become a display of accumulated bad habits, trapped instincts and blocked energies. Working with the Alexander Technique has given me sightings of another way... Mind and body, work and life together. Real imaginative freedom... Alan Rickman, Actor Alexander Technique really helped my posture and focus during my stint as Othello... Imagine how excited I was when arrived at the National Theatre for Comedy of Errors and found I could have Alexander taught to me once a week, I was chuffed to little meatballs. Lenny Henry, Comedian and Actor Question: Which book changed your life? Answer: The one the teacher put under my head during the Alexander Technique sessions at RADA. I grew an inch and a half. Q&A: Jonathan Pryce, Actor, The Guardian, May 7, 2015
04.01.2022 AT BACK INTO BALANCE Ocean Grove and Queen Street, Melbourne CHINESE MEDICINE, FOOD AND PAIN... Chinese Medicine states that "lack of free flow" creates pain. Blood stagnation or poor circulation generally or to a specific area in the body can be the cause of your pain. As cold is constricting in nature and inhibits free flow, cold foods are best avoided by those with chronic pain conditions. Avoid LIst - Cold foods direct bodily energy and fluids down and inward. Chinese Medical theory advises that food and drink taken straight from the fridge be avoided eg. icecream, beer, soft drink, cold left overs. Uncooked foods are said to consume more energy in the process of digestion than they offer eg. salads and raw vegetables, raw fruits. Foods which are energetically cold (many are blue, green or purple in colour) eg. celery, spinach, watermelon, dandelion, orange. Sometimes foods are said to be cold because they are simply difficult to digest eg. raw fish, raw meats. Beneficial List - Cooked foods eg. blanched vegetable salad, stews, slow cook meals, bone broth; Aromatic herbs and vegetables are said to move the blood but must be used in moderation by those with other factors including blood or yin deficiency with heat signs eg. turmeric, spring onion, leek, chives, garlic, ginger, eggplant, basil, nutmeg, oregano, rosemary, white pepper, chestnut. Warming foods - treat cold conditions by pushing bodily energies and fluids up and out. Foods that engender a long lasting warmth are recommended for those with long standing cold conditions, over foods that provide a short lived warmth eg. alcohol. Acrid spices - pepper, garlic, cinnamon Meat - beef, chicken, venison, lamb, anchovies Coffee, alcohol, oats, cherry, peach, parsnip, butter Food preparation is said to influence the temperature of food also with blanching or steaming resulting in the most balanced outcome and fryiing and roasting is warming; and grilling and barbequing being the hottest. Again, those with underlying heat conditions will benefit from avoiding barbecues whilst those with cold conditions may give their foods more warmth by roasting them The season is also important. During winter it is best to eat warming foods. In the warmer months we can tolerate the inclusion of more cooling foods. Dietary therapy is included in your Chinese Medicine consult. There are foods you may be consuming because they are said to benefit the eyes or the liver or the stomach. Chinese Medicine adds a different perspective again ie. the energetic temperature of a food. Including foods in your diet that balance your leaning towards too much heat or cold in the body provides another useful tool for helping us to decide what is best to include in our diet.
