21.01.2022 Thank you all for streaming Buffalo Soldier! In 24 hours we hit 700 streams Buffalo Soldier was one of the first tracks I started working on for the album, around 2 years ago, and I had so much fun warping the sections throughout, progressing and developing the central concept. The foundational rhythms are the Bamboula and running rhythms from New Orleans, and the track is heavily inspired by Afro-Native American music traditions (also from New Orleans). To capture this... sound I used a West African dununba as the kick drum, layered 3 hand-tambourine parts, as well as cowbells and djembe etc, to sew together a rich, dense tapestry of rhythm. This clip is an outtake from the drum session. Buffalo Soldier also features @joshchenoweth on trumpet, @dylanpaulbass on electric bass, @jackstrempel on organ and synth bass, and @tylerventermusic on electric guitar. 14.01.2022 As a white, non-American musician exploring, creating, and literally building my career rooted in Black American Music, it has been a vital process for me to arm myself with the knowledge necessary to fully understand, acknowledge, and respect where this music has come from and what it represents. This then provides me with the tools to build my own music with an informed attitude and awareness, with which I can help others do the same. This has been the foundational concep...t of HEARTBEAT right from the beginning - an opportunity for me to bring together my deep explorative passion for music, culture, and tradition from around the globe, tear down the barriers and genre stereotypes, and share it as one united sound; a seamless tapestry of multicultural energy; a love of all people and their histories, diversities, adversities, beliefs - our hearts all beat together. I want to use this music as a way to educate others by diversifying our listening experiences and opening our ears and our minds to these global sounds, beyond genre and stereotype. 13.01.2022 This album was in creation for 2.5 years, and close to 1 of those years was spent overseas. Its been such a big part of my life for so long, and Ive put an unmeasurable amount of love and passion and energy into it all. Working with Christian Scott, Stretch Music, and Ropeadope has been the craziest, most invaluable experience which I have learned so much from, and I still pinch myself that this was all possible. It is my hope that with this album I can help to diversify and expand your listening experiences, open your ears and minds to these beautiful, rich cultures of music from across the globe, and help to unify them together in a space where genre barriers and stereotypes dont exist. One of my favourite parts of the album features the voices of these two incredible musicians I met at a local Gurdwara (Sikh temple) here in Adelaide. KS Roopraj & Deep Sroa. The vocal session we did was one of the very last things we recorded before the albums completion.

09.01.2022 Very excited to be a part of this wonderful, challenging global @ropeadope project spearheaded by @russkaplan, Nine Takes. Ill be doing a live stream performance on July 22nd 10:30pm (9am EDT) over on the Ropeadope Facebook and YouTube, playing a collection of new original tunes by 9 composers across the globe. (Therell be a replay at 5pm EDT). Tune in to hear my own arrangements of these 9 compositions! Nine musicians from across the globe - strangers before this - ...formed a global writing group to compose one tune apiece. They then exchanged their sheet music amongst each other, and all filmed their own concerts of the whole set... but without ever hearing any demos of the songs beforehand. The result is nine fully original interpretations of this thrilling new collection of World Jazz.
