24.01.2022 Over the 15 years I have been coming to India and the 2 years living in Jaipur I have met many people and have been working with various suppliers around the greater city. This is a 1 minute clip of me running around Jaipur's Old City (walled city) which was founded in 1727 by Maharaj Jai Singh II. While I can now easily navigate the labyrinth of laneways that lead to my various suppliers offices, like the precious gemstones I find, the journey is never dull!

They are not from a man made material, reconstituted or treated in anyway. The giant crystals are sourced specifically for cutting into these unique objet. 15.01.2022 A few pictures of a collection of earrings I have been working on over the last few months. These earrings have been created using all natural gemstones that have been carefully carved into voluptuous gemstone doughnuts. Each oval doughnut has to be carefully worked to perfectly cradle the centre faceted gemstone that has been selected to display a unique colour combination. The centre stones have then been set in 24ct gold using a traditional Rajasthani setting technique cal...led Kundan (like my gem set rings). The earrings have been paired with gemstone droplets that hang in an 18ct gold cap. I have designed these earrings to showcase the fine colours of the gemstones, the richness of the gold and finished them with sterling silver backings to keep them an affordable statement earring option. Like with all my jewellery these have been test worn by yours truly so I can confidently say they are also comfortable enough for everyday wear Custom orders of your favourite colour combination are welcomed. These earrings will be on display at Gray Reid Gallery along with the rest of my collection from the 10th of this month. All necklaces have been made using natural gemstone beads cut in a Jaipur workshop I have been working closely with for the last 2 years. The necklaces have been strung with a knot between each bead to stop the beads from rubbing, ensure the necklaces longevity and frame each to and highlight its individual beauty. Stringing necklaces with knots like these takes my artisan a minimum of 4 h...ours per necklace! 09.01.2022 It is a difficult time right now but I am still trying to stay positive and work on a few future projects while I’m in Melbourne. It is so important that once I get back to India I will be able to support my artisans who have been hit hard by the recent lockdown. Understandably, jewellery might not be on your mind right now but your time at home could be a good time to look through your jewellery collection and find the bits and pieces you no longer wear. The costs of remodel...ling can sometimes be offset with scrap gold and damaged jewellery. Thinking about a remodel would support both my small business and the jewellers in both Melbourne and Jaipur that I work with. The hard working people who have supported my (and maybe yours) sometimes crazy ideas. At the same time you will have a project to work on and little something to look forward to in a grim time. Times are tough for everyone and the most important thing we can all do is take care of ourselves and the most vulnerable. We need to care for our physical selves while we don’t forget to take care of our mental health. 05.01.2022 I can't express how much I miss doing my daily rounds in Jaipur. Squeezing through crowded markets bustling with artisans, traders and entrepreneurs. The markets surrounding the famous Johari Bazar nourish a chaos that forms a symposium where people discuss manufacturing techniques, trade secrets, gemstones and new ideas. The air is thick with equal parts noise, enthusiasm, smells and possibility and in each meandering lane I find new and exciting potential. A powerful plac...e to be when looking for inspiration. This short video shows a day in my life in Jaipur as I meet and work with some of the suppliers and artisans who make Alexander Gems & Jewels possible. A day that brings me pure joy. I am in close contact with my suppliers, most of whose workers have gone to their villages, and times there are tough. My partner is stranded in Jaipur with state borders closed and my other friends have either left for overseas or will sit out the lockdown with their (often large and extended) families. While they are all trying to make the most of this time and enjoy whatever they can, needless to say there is great anxiety with what will happen in the country and to their businesses and their crafts? A lot of the world share this anxiety and I am truly grateful for the support I am being given by clients both old and new. Your encouragement to get back to India and continue with my existing projects and start on new commissions is much appreciated. 03.01.2022 My love for colour, tactile shapes, gemstones and old trade beads are fairly evident in this small collection of beads. I have always loved collecting things from the ground that catch my eye. Mostly these things would be otherwise discarded objects that were just a fracture of something larger. Sometimes it was the colour, sometimes it was the way the light hit them or maybe it was just an interesting shape. For years I collected bits of thick broken glass that I found while... walking around in Melbourne. Sometimes they had gone unnoticed for a very long time, which made them look frosted and dull, sometimes when I found them they would be shiny and sharp. I would take great care with these treasures as I put them safely in my pocket. At home I would put them in a large antique jar I had found at a derelict house I shouldn't have been in when I was about 12. The treasure would then sit in the jar to be admired. The light would pass through the jar and the colours of the glass would shine and some pieces would even glow. Ritually, I emptied the jar and re-pack it to create a new display of coloured glass. Once useless and abandoned, these broken bits of glass became treasure. An artwork. This what I was paying homage to when I started making these beads. The primal collection of something eye catching. The gemstones have been cut from mostly discarded offcuts. Too small to have obvious potential, too uneven to make matching beads yet still too much history with my gem cutter for him to discard them. I wanted these beads to resemble what you might dig up at the site of an undiscovered civilisation or find and admire in a museum. My main motivation being that each one bead is a unique treasure in itself. Each bead feels like it has a story and now you know they do. These beads have been drilled with 3mm holes because I think that individually or on a collection of 3 or 5 they look great on leather, cord or chain.
