24.01.2022 Dallas has a treasure in the middle. In a city of many large and opulent homes, perhaps no other home is as great a gem as 5555 Walnut Hill Lane. Crespi Estat...e, as it is known, exudes taste, class, architectural exquisiteness and refinement from an earlier era. How was this French mansion built in Dallas, the only design in the state by an architect known for his impressive projects in New York and Palm Beach? Douglas Newby has listed and sold the Crespi Estate previously and has drawn the attention of the last three owners to this property. Douglas Newby has coordinated a study of the property, evaluating the property divided into various configurations and understands the impact of future residential development surrounding the modified Crespi Estate home on only half of its original site. it is on a small footprint with the entrance off the toll road at the new address at 5619 Walnut Hill Lane. The Crespi Estate house is twice the size of what Maurice Fatio originally designed, but takes up half the size. Price inconsistencies in houses of architectural importance Architecturally significant houses like Crespi Estate have widely divergent prices. Some of these architect-designed homes are high-concept homes, some are historic homes, some are modern period homes. These can be difficult to understand because they do not have a 21st century condition or finish. Other architecturally significant homes distract from the fabulous sites on which they are located and selected by the original architect, causing the home to sell for even less than the value of the lot. Some architecturally significant homes come on the market for twice what they are worth or what they will sell because the price falls short of what the current market requires. Other houses of architectural significance become unknown and unrecognized and are offered at a fraction of their actual value. 19.01.2022 The mansion in the sky: Mrs Hutton’s triplex apartment at 1107 Fifth Avenue. The idea for the building was born in the autumn of 1923, when Gen. John Kilpatrick... met with Mrs Hutton. She felt that the traffic noise and gasoline fumes were becoming increasingly unpleasant and wanted her home rebuilt at the top of an apartment house. Adjoining land was acquired to augment her 50-by-100 ft lot , and a 13 -story building was planned. The apartment house was designed around Hutton’s idea for her new home , while the rest of the apartments were uniquely built to suit. A private driveway and lobby were constructed on East 92nd St for her own private use. A grand 54- room residence was created that holds the record as the largest apartment ever constructed. The space not devoted to the Hutton spread was apportioned to yield some impressive residences. Mrs Seligman apartment had a 30x 36 ft Living Room and a 5,000 sq ft bedroom suite. Charles van Vleck had a duplex created with a double height Living Room of similar dimensions to The Seligman apartment. A duplex on floors 11 and 12 had a 100 ft vista through the public rooms and included an Aviary. The Hutton spread rented for $75,000 a year, and when she left, it remained vacant until it was subdivided into 6 luxury apartments. . See more

06.01.2022 The Marmara marble we used here for our client's bathroom took on so much more meaning when he coincidentally booked a trip to Turkey right after our first concept presentation. During a tour of the Hagia Sofia, he noticed a certain veining at the base of the monument's pillars and recognised under centuries of dirt and grime accumulated, the very same marble that he will have in his own home.
