22.01.2022 MARKETS this SAT 12th in Buhk Park are CANCELLED. Sadly we have not had much luck with the second Sat of the month's weather, and whilst the rain has a small chance of clearing, the wind will be the next beast to tame and it is proving too risky to go ahead. Bring on OCTOBER the 10th.

12.01.2022 MOOLOOLABA: Huge thanks to Blueys photography for snapping these shots of our latest Algae Blooms! Although these pics were taken at Mooloolaba it is up and dow...n the coast at the moment and, fortunately, it is very harmless! Our subtropical climate on the Sunshine Coast provides warm and sunny conditions which can assist these algae called Trichodesmium to bloom in our waters. FUN FACT: These blue-green algae are commonly known as sea sawdust, whale sperm, whale food and sea scum During extended calm periods gas vacuoles cause the algae to rise to the water surface. Once at the surface it forms clumps which on close inspection appear to consist of little brown bundles of threads. The blooms can occur throughout the year but are most common between August and January when they can form very large slicks, as seen here. Are they toxic? These blooms are harmless to people but if they deplete the oxygen content of the water, they can cause death to aquatic animals. 12.01.2022 The Alex Forest Bushcare Group and the AHCA have received an update on the proposed hazard reduction burn for Alex Forest. Councils fire management team have completed five priority 1 burns across the region but given the challenging season with extended rainfall events pushing back the window for burns, the team have been unable to get to any Priority 2 burns (of which Alex Forest is currently listed). The burns program will be reviewed in the coming months - but note that some mechanical hazard reduction work was completed last month establishing a fuel reduced zone adjacent to the eastern fire trail (adjoining Mari St).
12.01.2022 Congratulations to all the team at Juan Fifty

05.01.2022 Thanks to the volunteers who care for Alex Forest. Once a month on Saturday morning they meet to enjoy weeding, watering and Sameer’s (Council Bushcare Officer) morning tea!! More volunteers are always welcome.
05.01.2022 The benefits of community.
04.01.2022 After the earth moved ...... The meccano game began! Reading the destructions often, the complex shadehouse came together. It was squared and levelled before b...eing covered in shadecloth. All up today some 83 volunteer hours were needed to complete the shadehouse, and spread gravel on the floor - with the final question being, how many men does it take to hang a gate? Big THANKS to all 16 volunteers, but especially Mario (who dreamed of shadehouse instructions in his sleep), Ken, Alan, David and David, all of whom each contributed over nine hours today. Top dedicated volunteers who worked in great humour to provide a place to propogate plants for our foreshore. (See the final photograph for the answer to the question) See more
