12.01.2022 This TEDMED pretty much sums up why I moved from psychology to Occupational Therapy. I believe mental health and wellness needs be looked at as a whole. The physical, mental, social wellbeing, environment and nutrition ... not just studying the mind. https://www.ted.com//nadine_burke_harris_how_childhood_tra

12.01.2022 The new dietary guidelines have called to limit sugar to 10% of calories - on a 2000 calorie/day diet that would be about 10-12 teaspoons of ADDED sugar (so not... the stuff you find in fruit and veg). In my opinion, this is still a crap-load of added sugar! Loving the emphasis on increasing veggie intake, as well as the de-emphasis on cholesterol. However saturated fat still gets a bad wrap, when there are many healthy sources of saturated fats (such as butter, coconut oil and good quality animal products. Your thoughts? xx http://edition.cnn.com//01/07/hea/2015-dietary-guidelines/

10.01.2022 The Holistic Nutritionist AKA mentor Kate Callaghan just posted a great reminder about a healthy female body image. The photos of me below are NOT 'healthy'..., REPEAT - NOT HEALTHY! They might look healthy, happy and sure I had abs and I was proud of my dedication to sticking to a ridiculously strict meal plan, water loading, ditching my friends because I couldn't eat out, spending my life & money at the gym and dehydrating myself before a photo shoot. That's dedication r...ight? Or just bloody crazy! Currently I'm NOT taking on clients while I'm finishing my degree but I still feel strongly about sending out the message that looking the way I did in these photos is not healthy .. physically or mentally! I honestly believe living that lifestyle is a controlled version of anorexia. If any of my clients or anyone who is struggling with similar issues please follow people like Kate who has studied, been through it, knows her stuff, is healthy and now has a beautiful baby girl Oliver. Post via { The Holistic Nutritionist } My oh my how things can change in just a few years. This was me 4 years ago....a little ball of muscle without a period and infertile. Fast forward and now I have a beautiful 9 month old daughter. It wasn't the easiest, or most straight forward journey to get here (eating more, exercising less, saying goodbye to abs, as a start ) but it was well worth it! If you look like this, and you don't have a period, you're not healthy. You're infertile, you're putting your bones at risk of osteoporosis, you're increasing your risk of heart disease and I bet you feel like crap! Abs will only get you so far in life...it might be time to prioritise your health. And if, like me, you're a health/fitness professional, realise that the image you portray is what others will perceive as healthy, and that's what they will aspire to. If you're in the business of promoting a ripped female body, realise that you could actually be doing more harm than good. Take some responsibility and be honest about this stuff. It's a hard pill to swallow, but people will appreciate, and be inspired by, your honesty and courage. To all the ladies who came to my fitness classes back in the day and asked how to get a body like mine, I apologise for telling you to eat and exercise a certain way. What I should have told you is that you wouldn't want a body like mine back then, because it was a completely dysfunctional body, and you should embrace, love and nourish the body that you have. Monday morning rant over (blame Facebook for sharing this memory with me). If you're ready to get your health back on track, check out my ebook "Healing Hypothalamic Amenorrhea" - www.theholisticnutritionist.com/ebook (link in IG profile) xx Sent from my iPhone

09.01.2022 You need to talk to someone and you've been avoiding them for a long time. In your mind, they've made the wrong choice and they continually make negative choice...s. They're self destructive, selfish, hurtful and they cause anguish and grief for their loved ones. But, you still love them. You still love them and occasionally their face comes to you in that random moment (maybe eclipses or other astro forces take over) and you remember how they used to be. It's a heart breaking love. You soften for a moment but then your hardened mind asserts. You're protecting yourself and rightly so. You can never change them. You will never change them. You can never make them better. Loving them is the only thing you can do. Even from a distance. Learning to love them again and find forgiveness (it may take years). Forgiveness will heal, forgiveness will soothe, forgiveness is for you! The Heart Chakra governs our ability to love, forgive, be grateful, compassionate and joyful. Place your hand over your beautiful heart. Take a deep breath in and meditate on the word 'forgiveness'. Suspend the breath. Let the word 'forgiveness' and your awareness permeate every cell of your body. Now exhale (long and slow), breathing out the word 'love'. Visualise little smiley love faces all through your body. Keep breathing out until you're empty of breath. At the end of your breath, bring both hands in prayer to your heart space and simply notice how you feel. Notice that stillness and space as you pause between breaths. Feel that exchange of energy between your body and the energy of the divine universe around you. 'Akasha'. Repeat this breath cycle, movement and word mantra 8 times. Regular practice of breathing, mantras and meditation has a soothing and rebalancing effect on the mind and all of the body systems. This ritual can be an anti-depressant and anti-ageing. It can rejuvenate energy and enthusiasm and lower stress and anxiety levels. Forgiveness helps relieve stored tension in your body and mind. 09.01.2022 Love this from quote from @earthacademy . So many of us get caught up in being "perfect" RIGHT NOW that we lose sight of all the amazing little achievements we... have made along the way and that we are actually making progress. # Think about the situation you're in - how long did it take you to get there? Chances are you're not going to find your way out overnight. # It will take time. Every step forward counts, and deserves a little celebration. # So be kind to yourself, beauty. You'll get there. Promise xx See more

09.01.2022 AM Fitness & Wellness is going through a little growth spurt! Nothin' like a fresh biz start. All of my services have come to a sneaky halt while I finish my Biomedical & Occupational Therapy Degree.... Uni breaks I tend to take on a few clients and I'm more active on social media however while my head is in the books I recommend continuing your health journey with Health Practitioner & Dietitian Kate Callaghan AKA The Holistic Nutritionist and keep using the forum. But.. pleeease stay in contact, I still read all of your messages and update the website :) Keep your eye's peeled for a refreshed and rejuvenated future AM .. http://alexandramichelle.com/
