24.01.2022 A personal playlist is a human intervention, which unlocks the individuality of the person with dementia, while also providing a desperately needed social tool for families and other care givers to reconnect. #playlistforlife #dementiacare #musictherapy https://youtu.be/agD80Nb5eE4

24.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas Thank you to each and everyone of you who have been part of this wonderful community Thank you to all of my participants... Thank you to the families, parents, husbands, wives, siblings and advocates - you inspire me every day Thank you to all of the support workers - who have been brave enough to leave their inhibitions at the door to do the best for their participants Thank you to all of the support coordinators who have championed so strongly for Mt Thank you to the advocates and supporters of music therapy Thank you to all of the schools, child and family Centre’s, teachers, teachers aid’s and their communities for prioritizing music Most of all.... thank you for the music I’m so grateful to each and every one of you. 2020 has been a challenging and tough year but also a wonderful year. It has been amazing to grow such a beautiful community who want the best for their loved ones. 2020 has been a time for connection. I’ve celebrated first words, danced with the hard to reach, and have been witness to many moments that bring tears to parents eyes. I feel very privileged. I am signing off until the 11th of Jan to spend time with my family. For those of you who have already enquired about Music Therapy for 2021, I will return your emails soon. 2021 is looking bright . . . . . 22.01.2022 Many music therapists skill share with Participant’s Support Workers to embed music into care giving to assist with activities of daily living. Today we explored the earth song drum and how it can assist in relaxation before Hygiene routines. #musictherapy #registeredmusictherapist #skillsharing #supportingcaregivers #supportworkers #ndis

22.01.2022 It’s Dementia Action Week! This afternoon I had the pleasure of going on a Dementia Action Week walk along the Devonport foreshore with the amazing team at Southern Cross Care Tasmania. Everyday, each one of us care for people living with dementia, but today we were walking for the people we love living with dementia.... There are more than half a million Australians living with this disease. It’s predicted to double in the next 25 years. We all need to take action. https://www.dementia.org.au/dementia-action-week #dementiaactionweek #dementiaaustralia

21.01.2022 Exploring emotional regulation through drawing and music listening this afternoon. Look at this beautiful mermaid. ‘The music makes me think of the sea... mermaids live in the sea’.

20.01.2022 Vale Helen Reddy, another amazing voice lost to dementia. ‘The difference between the human voice and any other instrument is the lyrics, and if the the audience can’t understand what you’re saying you might as well say ‘la, la, la’’. https://open.spotify.com/track/4WATWC0FbwFXEJ0mQld0cG

20.01.2022 Of course the photo pinned for this film is of me yawning... like a koala

16.01.2022 My daughter Gracie’s prep class has been discussing what it means to be kind this week. @littlemusicnest shared this lovely pic of kindness songs. I’ve put them into a Spotify playlist for any educators who would like to share. It’s a beautiful collection of songs Can you share any kind theme songs and I’ll put them in the playlist too? ... https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7m3gzD6QglpzzmCg8ORjb0 #kindness #kindnesssongs #kindnessmatters #kindmusic #musictherapy

15.01.2022 Music Therapy in lockdown. I’ve loved supporting families via telehealth this year and I truly believe it’s here to stay. For families living in regional Tasmania, this has meant taking away the burden of long travel to see therapists.

15.01.2022 Introducing Angela I’m quite over the moon to write this post! This little business is now a team. ... You may recognize Ange as a Kinder Teacher’s Assistant or from the East Devonport Child and Family Centre. Ange will be helping me with administration and service agreements... to begin with... but there are lots of plans underway! Ange is an amazing mum, and she’s just the person you need if you are having a tough day. I am so thrilled she’s agreed. To all of our wonderful music therapy families, you’ll be hearing from Ange soon about new programs for 2021 Don’t worry folks, you’ll still see her at school and at the CFC #musictherapy #ilovendis

15.01.2022 I’ve really enjoyed collaborating with local speech pathologists this year, supporting our participants to achieve their speech and language goals. Collaboration achieves the best outcomes for the people we support

13.01.2022 I’m a very proud mum today! I’ve worked with lots of very proud parents this term. I feel every moment... the moment when each child achieves something small... but enormous in music therapy, and the parent beams and looks up and smiles with you and we have a silent moment of celebration together. Those magic moments are what it’s all about

12.01.2022 Celebrating Social Inclusion Week 2020 Social Inclusion Week aims to help all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participa...te fully in society. Social Inclusion Week is about connecting local communities, workmates, family and friends, in order to build and strengthen relationships or networks and address isolation and exclusion of those who may be marginalised. The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) is committed to providing tracks, facilities, programs and equipment that are accessible to a broad range of people, including the mobility impaired, vision impaired, elderly, infirm, and people with prams. There are a number of access-friendly sites around the State that enable mobility impaired visitors to enjoy our parks, reserves and historic sites independently or with assistance. Our TrailRiders, an all-terrain wheelchair that can manage areas and tracks that are normally inaccessible to mobility impaired visitors, are available at Cradle Mountain, Freycinet and Mount Field national parks and are free of charge to use. The Get Outside (GO) with Community program is a PWS initiative to foster harmony and connections with nature and each other in our community. It is one of the Parks and Wildlife Service’s key social inclusion programs positively engaging with hundreds of culturally and linguistically diverse people across the state and with the volunteering sector. www.parks.tas.gov.au/exp/know-before-you-go/access-friendly https://www.socialinclusionweek.com.au/ Social Inclusion Week @siweekaus Wildcare Tasmania Volunteering Tasmania

11.01.2022 Big day... then off to Kinder at East Devonport Primary... then launching into Learning at Latrobe primary... then NDIS session

10.01.2022 A long... but important Christmas post Last night I ran ‘Christmas Carols’ at Aunty Gwen’s residential aged care home. Aunty Gwen isn’t quite my real Aunty. She’s my great uncle’s sister-in-law or Aunty Gwen’s niece and nephew and my mother are cousins! She’s a proud 96 years young and holds many memories of my grandfather when he was a young man. She was born during the First World War, lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War and now a global pandemic....Continue reading

08.01.2022 February 2021 Has... been.... HUGE! Our family has all of our birthdays at the start of the year which just puts a bit of pressure to starting school, starting new programs and getting into the swing of 2021... I’d just like to apologize that I have growing collection of unreplied emails which I am slowing getting to. I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to all of the new participants and their families who have joined our music therapy tribe. It’s been lovely to meet and support you all over the last few weeks. As most of you are aware I have been in desperate need of a dedicated therapy space to facilitate group and individual programs. I have searched endlessly. I even made an offer on a property last week but missed out. I want this space to be perfect for you, or at least have the potential to be perfect. With a very hot property market in Tassie and very few commercial opportunities in the NW I’ve decided to wait until the right opportunity lands. In the mean time, I will continue to travel to most local homes and I will transition programs to a beautiful space which I have in my own home. I have had many requests for group programs. I will be starting a wait list for a second young adult program. After many requests I am starting a younger onset dementia family therapy program with creative arts the focus. I have 2 spots left for people living with dementia and their family. Please PM for more details. Thank you all for your continued support. You’re all amazing #musictherapy #ndis #asd #northwesttasmania #familytherapy #crazybusymum

08.01.2022 George (7 month old) is showing no signs of weight bearing, so today I’ve grabbed the tall Remo Kids Percussion drum to kick, which gives him lots of great auditory feedback. #paediatricmusictherapy #remo

08.01.2022 Strong as a diamond but really marshmallow inside, we love you to the moon and back

07.01.2022 Listen to those beautiful vocalisations! Did you know that babies sing before they learn to speak. A baby’s primary care giver is their best teacher. So hear I am... singing sirens with George and he’s singing back... While you’re listening, check out those squishy baby thighs #musictherapy #vocalplay

07.01.2022 This is my one and only presentation for 2020! Super stoked to be part of this initiative.

06.01.2022 Flash back to May, right in the middle of NW Tasmanian lock down. Don’t forget there is now a bank of recordings of ‘music with Alex’ that you can use at home with your children through the East Devonport Child and Family Centre Facebook page #earlychildhood #earlyyearsmusic #workingwithyourchildren #registeredmusictherapist

03.01.2022 Here is a laugh for a Wednesday evening

02.01.2022 Last ‘Music with Alex’ Facebook live. We started these back in April when North West Tasmania went into an extended lock down. I spent 12 weeks at home with my children. We had no idea how it would go and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response and the lovely way it has kept us all connected to the Child and Family Centre.... We’re in a good place, so it’s time to stop and hope we don’t need to do it again

01.01.2022 I don’t think the person posting knows how much it hurts to read his add... even if his piano is in poor condition... only in Tasmania https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/255537468964478/

01.01.2022 Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to all of the wonderful phone calls, emails and enquiries about music therapy for your children and adults over the last few weeks. In a very short time I now have a fully fledged thriving NDIS therapy practice.... Thank you for waiting patiently for return of emails, phone calls and invoices. I don’t have an administration team or other allied health staff (yet - watch this space 2021 ) If you haven’t heard from me - you will I hope everyone is enjoying their school break As one mother of a participant recently said to me ‘disability doesn’t end just because it’s school holidays’ - yes.... this couldn’t be truer... school holidays can be a super challenging time. So... also watch this space for summer holiday program announcements I’m excited

01.01.2022 Must be baby music time #musictherapy #earlyyears #worldnurseryrhymeweek
