20.01.2022 The #crossfitopen has started and first workout hurts like s**t! In any sport or fitness regime peaking for a contest should not be taken from the approach of "...I'll take a week off everything before competition" but should be approached from the position where an individual has gotten into a groove of training consistently then hits their best result after 2-3 weeks (can be different for some people) of a gradual increase of training week to week then once reaching a peak of that training phase then have a week off usually post contest/competition. Don't get me wrong training should not be at an all time intensity throughout the week especially if competition is on weekends for a series of weeks but it should not be completely stopped. It's like expecting a car to run smoothly after not being used for a prolong period of time however our bodies are more organic in nature and take a lot less time (1-3 weeks) to feel the lack of use in our bodies! So during this open season or if you play any week to week sport or prepare for a specific event make sure you're in a training groove before your event. This was training few days ago!Since we have no idea what is coming up in each workout for the next few weeks and Crossfit being a very skilled based sport skill specific workouts are performed and organic features of fitness such as strength and energy system training (what a lot like to term cardio) tax the body and require alot more recovery time they are more so required to be sustained at the levels they are rather than trying to build further during comp phase. So realistically if you haven't done the work now it's going to be very hard! So on the cards for training was Heavy 3 rep power clean every min on min for 6 min -110kg 10-1 Bench Press and Chest 2 Bar Pull Ups 15 unbroken muscles- 1 set #crossfit #crossfitnorthhead #theblueprintprogramming #alexcheefitness #olympicweightlifting #powerclean #pullups #muscleups #theweeknd #trainsmart #gymnastics #manly #instafit #lovetheslowmo #cantthinkofanymorehashtags

20.01.2022 No specific post today guys but today was an awesome day of training. Late last year I said I wanted to perform a double body weight back squat for a set of 10 ...reps! I am currently around 75-76kg so I put 150kg on the bar got it on my shoulders and squatted it. I hit every rep and holy shit haven't felt that hurt in a while! Not that impressive to some of the big powerlifting dudes out there but aye I'll take it! Enroute to 200kg! #crossfit #crossfitnorthhead #theblueprintprogramming #alexcheefitness #power #powerlifting #olympicweightlifting #strength #squats #fuckcardio #fatandhappy #cantthinkofanymorehashtags

18.01.2022 Mental game vs your physical ability. This years #crossfitopen has really taught me a thing or two about the balance of these two aspects. Over the past year ph...ysically I have reached the fittest and strongest I have ever been in the past 6 years of doing Crossfit and mentally in those past 6 years I have wanted to reach heights of physical abilities for the top of this sport. However training to be competitive at this sport really depends more on mental drive rather than physical ability much like any other sport. I really do believe once an individual who has the physical capacity to be at the top 1% of any sport it comes down to sheer willingness to immerse oneself in the lifestyle and mindsets required to reach the 0.5% who can say they are at the top. This is my 7th year and by all means I am no top 30 in Australia at this sport but I can safely say is that mentally I have not fully committed to improving my previous years performances and to no surprise I have really struggled to repeat my previous performances of reaching top 150. Does this mean it's time to give up? Nah not at all I still like to train and compete even if I'm not best of the best. What it does mean is that the mind needs its form of "active" rest just as much as the body. Your mindset will determine what you do physically and that is a principle not just for sport but for many aspects in life in general. All that holistic stuff aside this was training the other day. @coachberridge was doing solely strength training and getting massive whilst I was busy getting cardio fit.... And skinny!! However that sets me up for my next post on how strength training should be at the forefront of your training before cardiovascular endurance training. Stay tuned! #crossfit #crossfitnorthhead #theblueprintprogramming #alexcheefitness #instafit #cardio #strengthtraining #shoulders #rowing #manly #sydney #northhead #lovetheslowmo #cantthinkofanymorehashtags #illseeyounextyear

13.01.2022 ATP-PC, Adenosine Tri Phosphate - Phospho Creatine. What the hell is that?? Let me do my best to simplify and explain! ATP-PC is an energy system of the body, i...t is the system which supplies the body with immediate energy to exert really high amounts of force within a very short time zone of 0-10secs sometimes pushing to 20 secs depending on the individual. Examples of this energy being used would be 100m sprint, max height box jump, 1 rep max back squat pretty much any immediate actions done with a high bout of power. Why is this important? Well this energy system is the accelerator of the body. If there is no accelerator in a car it cannot move or if there is a car that has little power it takes time to move. The faster your accelerator the better your car can access its higher gears meaning the higher intensity your workouts become purely because you can generate force faster, more effectively and continually throughout your workout. The best form of training to activate this system is strength training and its doable for every demographic wanting to be fit and healthy. So get into a gym and start lifting weights. This was session from the other day with me and @coachberridge performing a 1 heavy single rep Power Snatch where we both hit 100kg. This was training that exact system which allows us to move lighter weights faster in order to illicit a harder more effective workout. Remember you have to be powerful before you can access higher intensities for your workouts. #crossfit #crossfitnorthhead #instafit #olympicweightlifting #snatch #powersnatch #77kg #fatandhappy #theblueprintprogramming #alexcheefitness #singlets #power #strength #speed #fuckcardio #cantthinkofanymorehashtags

05.01.2022 Me and @coachberridge hitting shoulders the other day. No specific post here today guys just abit of a fun session and update on #crossfitopen. Since beer consu...mption throughout January has been above average and last epic day of beer drinking, Australia Day, has passed its time to get my shit together. What we know is that the open will consist of high repetitions or long duration holds in overhead movements so pressing/shoulder endurance is a must at this point other than that Olympic lifts should be kept close to max lifts to help maintain skill strength what I mean by that is how well your displaying your strength through technical movements such as the Olympic lifts and other than that a heap load of Crossfit styled workouts involving many different time domains and Crossfit styled movements but ultimately simulating what is to be expected in the open which is a whole heap load of hurt. But either way make training a heap load of fun regardless of taking it seriously or just for your own leisure and general goals of being fit and healthy. #alexcheefitness #crossfit #crossfitnorthhead #theblueprintprogramming #jackedandtanned #shoulders #olympicweightlifting #cleans #gymnastics #fatandhappy #instafit #cantthinkofanymorehashtags #readytogo
