20.01.2022 Outcome of Aug 27th Special Meeting of Council. At Thursday Aug 27th special Meeting, Councillors voted unanimously to proceed with a public consultation progra...m on the Mass Transit Plan that will occur over the next 10 months. Councillors were told the consultation will be in 3 phases with an estimated budget of $300,000. Phase 1 Inform, late 2020 Phase 2 Engage, early 2021 Phase 3 Feedback, Mid 2021 Of concern, council officers recommended today the final Preliminary Business Case (now renamed Options Analysis) not be released until simpler literature, that people can understand, is produced to support the inform phase. This is against Cr Joe Natoli’s motion last week that sought to have the report released next month. The report is not likely to be released now until early 2021. Also, disappointingly Council officers and some Councillors today tried to play down the densification levels proposed in the plan by dismissing them as theoretical. Why put them in the plan then? Cr Natoli proposed that a community task force be formed to assist Council in preparing the details around the Community Consultation. We will wait to see if this will be acted on. So we have community consultation but we need to continue to work hard to ensure it is meaningful, truthful and listened to.
20.01.2022 Please have your say, especially about Alex.
19.01.2022 You wont miss these bright new signs on Okinja Road!
19.01.2022 The benefit of holidaying at Alex this time of year, beautiful beach sunrises and great weather! .... actually that’s all year round! Contact us or visit our website for great rates on direct bookings.
19.01.2022 Thanks to the volunteers who care for Alex Forest. Once a month on Saturday morning they meet to enjoy weeding, watering and Sameer’s (Council Bushcare Officer) morning tea!! More volunteers are always welcome.
19.01.2022 Thanks to our sponsors Alexandra on the Pacific, up on the hill on Buderim Avenue. Nicely located between two surf clubs! We appreciate their support.
19.01.2022 Mtag's website survey has been running now for several weeks. So far the results mirror the results we have seen in other surveys undertaken over the past few ...years. Our survey indicates residents overwhelming prefer heavy rail (66%) to light rail (6%). In fact, more would rather have no rail solution(28%) than Light Rail! So why does our Council continue to spend millions of dollars on something the majority of people do not want? Responses and Comments are being received from across the whole of the Sunshine coast. Here are some comments: "We do not need higher density living - why is there such a desire to fill the coast with more people, more businesses, more cars? Don't let us become the Gold Coast - there are a lot of issues there that we don't want here (although increasing crime rates are starting to show" From Montville "Organize a modern and completely different transport plan. Both current plans will only service a very small part of the Sunshine Coast at enormous cost to everyone." From Melany "People on the sunshine coast have repeatedly said they do not want to be like the Gold Coast! In order for trams to be financially viable, we would need to look like the Gold Coast and Melbourne. I agree we need to look and plan ahead but the current Bus Routes are not at capacity. Unlike a fixed route tram system, bus routes are flexible and able to adapt to the growth areas. Unlike trams, Buses have the capacity to benefit from exciting new technology Unlike trams, there is no visual 'Pollution' associated with overhead lines." From Alexandra Headlands Results of our website survey are: 66% Fast rail from Maroochydore to Beerwah (via the CAMCOS corridor) integrated with a modern bus service 6% Light rail initially from Maroochydore to Kawana (Stage 1) & then from Kawana to Caloundra(Stage 2) 28% Neither Keep those responses coming. We will make sure these responses get submitted to Council when the Community consultation commences in late February 2021. Go to our website: www.masstransitsc.com/survey
19.01.2022 The most recently opened business in Alex - good fun.
18.01.2022 And the earth moved under our feet....... thanks to the 16 volunteers from the associations Bushcare and Garden committees who worked hard this morning to relocate garden beds to make room for a propogation shade house!
18.01.2022 Happy 15th year Ian and team
17.01.2022 Shady group of gardeners, resting after a long morning on the BBQ - thanks to our volunteers!
17.01.2022 Alex Foreshore Bushcare Group enjoyed a sunny spring morning on the dunes around Geriatrics removing the last patch of singapore daisy and siratro. Great turn out with 11 Volunteers and a grand total of 24 weed bags. Great work everyone - looking forward to next month.
17.01.2022 And now you know.....
16.01.2022 Great photo this morning from Sue Perry.
16.01.2022 After the earth moved ...... The meccano game began! Reading the destructions often, the complex shadehouse came together. It was squared and levelled before b...eing covered in shadecloth. All up today some 83 volunteer hours were needed to complete the shadehouse, and spread gravel on the floor - with the final question being, how many men does it take to hang a gate? Big THANKS to all 16 volunteers, but especially Mario (who dreamed of shadehouse instructions in his sleep), Ken, Alan, David and David, all of whom each contributed over nine hours today. Top dedicated volunteers who worked in great humour to provide a place to propogate plants for our foreshore. (See the final photograph for the answer to the question) See more
14.01.2022 UPDATE: Mooloolaba Foreshore Works. Council recognises landscaping as a strong component of the project and significant offset planting will occur for any trees... that are removed. The completed project will see extensive new planting and landscaping with almost 50 new trees and over 1000 plants to be planted as part of the project. #KeepingYouInTheLoop #mooloolaba

12.01.2022 The first turtle tracks on Sunny Coast beaches (north of Maroochy River), but early morning walkers along Alex please keep your eyes open and call Coolum and North Shore Coast Care on 0478 435 377 if you see any (I don't think it matters how early!!) We don't expect many in Alex due to the street lights, but its not unheard of.....
12.01.2022 Condolences to the family.
11.01.2022 A great idea worth supporting!
11.01.2022 Artisan markets in Alex brought to you by the community association in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Collective Markets. Beautiful morning - operating until midday.
11.01.2022 Repair week for some Alex amenities - the Skate Park is being repainted and sealed and will be closed till Friday. As will the beach shower at the corner, where the drain outlet is being enlarged, and will hopefully be finished by Friday.
11.01.2022 Pretty sure there is little support for light rail through Alex.
11.01.2022 This is NOT what we want, nor what we supported six years ago, down the beachfront at Alex - and if you support better transport, there are many other more attractive solutions that do not have such ugly visual pollution.
11.01.2022 UPDATE: repair and maintenance works at the Alex Skate Park are complete. The surface has been cleaned, patched and resealed. These works and reseal are essential to ensure this facility can withstand the harsh coastal environment. Enjoy! #KeepingYouInTheLoop
10.01.2022 A reminder of the Hoons hotline phone no (134666) - following many recent concerns again on Alexandra Parade.

08.01.2022 MARKETS this SAT 12th in Buhk Park are CANCELLED. Sadly we have not had much luck with the second Sat of the month's weather, and whilst the rain has a small chance of clearing, the wind will be the next beast to tame and it is proving too risky to go ahead. Bring on OCTOBER the 10th.
07.01.2022 Shout out to our local sponsors in this difficult year, and here's to Jodie McDonell - Century 21 On Duporth who is always among the first to put her hand up to help - both the Association and the Community Garden. 06.01.2022 MOOLOOLABA: Huge thanks to Blueys photography for snapping these shots of our latest Algae Blooms! Although these pics were taken at Mooloolaba it is up and dow...n the coast at the moment and, fortunately, it is very harmless! Our subtropical climate on the Sunshine Coast provides warm and sunny conditions which can assist these algae called Trichodesmium to bloom in our waters. FUN FACT: These blue-green algae are commonly known as sea sawdust, whale sperm, whale food and sea scum During extended calm periods gas vacuoles cause the algae to rise to the water surface. Once at the surface it forms clumps which on close inspection appear to consist of little brown bundles of threads. The blooms can occur throughout the year but are most common between August and January when they can form very large slicks, as seen here. Are they toxic? These blooms are harmless to people but if they deplete the oxygen content of the water, they can cause death to aquatic animals. MORE INFO HERE: https://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au//Coast-a/Algae-Blooms
06.01.2022 The Alex Forest Bushcare Group and the AHCA have received an update on the proposed hazard reduction burn for Alex Forest. Councils fire management team have completed five priority 1 burns across the region but given the challenging season with extended rainfall events pushing back the window for burns, the team have been unable to get to any Priority 2 burns (of which Alex Forest is currently listed). The burns program will be reviewed in the coming months - but note that some mechanical hazard reduction work was completed last month establishing a fuel reduced zone adjacent to the eastern fire trail (adjoining Mari St).
06.01.2022 Good message - and a reminder that bread is not good for the ducks in Nelson Park either.
05.01.2022 E-Bikes are here to stay and will play an increasingly important role when it comes to cycling uptake. Modern E-Bikes are termed ‘electric assist’, so you’ve st...ill got to spin your legs, with the electric power simply helping to maintain a higher speed. Of course, your workout isn’t quite as exhausting as on a non-electric bike, but the actual differences in health outcomes are less significant than you might think. See more
05.01.2022 Booking policy .... now things are at a "new normal" for us we are back to our regular booking policy.
