24.01.2022 Melbourne has become exactly what was described in George Orwell’s book, 1984, where he depicts a future dystopian society, which I’m reading again at the moment! It’s eerily similar! Poor people are living in a nightmare

22.01.2022 Excellent Daffodil Cottage News New unit manager Mooreen Macleay and new full time oncology pharmacist Sarah Bowen started on Monday! It should never have taken this long to replace the previous much loved oncology pharmacist, it was managed disgracefully say the least, however we all have peace of mind now.... Great result, well done everyone

19.01.2022 Mother Nature’s cycle continues. Chifley Dam is at 100.20% capacity as of 22 September 2020. This is the highest level since January 2017.

19.01.2022 CHIFLEY DAM IS OVERFLOWING Please share this great news! In a year that’s been so horrible, finally some excellent news! ... Well done Bathurst, you’ve been responsible and water wise, everyone’s played their part!

19.01.2022 The natural cycle continues, Chifley dam hits 100.5% capacity, La Niña event predicted for this summer,

17.01.2022 Today would have been Election Day! I was elected on the promise I’d be the silent majority voice and keep the bastards honest. So often Id hear these councillors are useless, they do nothing, Councillors are hopeless and in it for themselves. ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 I promised, I delivered!!! Since I was elected to council three years ago, you have seen the biggest investment in community safety in Bathurst’s history! We now have a fully functioning nineteen camera CCTV system protecting you and your loved ones in the CBD. This is something I’m incredibly proud of and something many told me at the last election I’d never get done. ... To those doubters all I can say is, look now. Less Dithering, More Delivering

15.01.2022 I had no choice but to take the extraordinary step of lodging a rescission motion this morning on last nights Taco Bell decision! Some of the reasons against my motion last night were ridiculous, they included a councillor who believes councillors should never ever change their minds on an issue And another who, in unbelievable scenes stated he’s worried this DA will create competition for existing businesses and proceed to rattle off a list of coffee shops and cafès that ...would be negatively impacted, what the??? Taco Bell sells Tacos! A third Councillor probably should have removed himself from the vote due to declaring a non-pecuniary interest prior to discussion of the matter, stating that he had a relative who lived in the vicinity of the site. This relative is opposed to the DA and issued a very detailed submission outlining their opposition. It was this councillor who cast the deciding vote. This needs to be looked at further as I don’t believe its appropriate and don’t think it’s in the public interest. We must not become an anti jobs, anti business council!!!! Not good enough! IM ALL FOR JOBS!!! I SUPPORT ALL NEW BUSINESS INTO BATHURST!! MONEY IN THE POCKETS OF LOCALS IS MONEY THATS SPENT IN THE LOCAL ECONOMY!

12.01.2022 TACO BELL RESCISSON MOTION SUCCESSFUL!!! About 50 jobs coming to bathurst!!!... It came down to the mayors tie breaking vote!

12.01.2022 Picnic at McPhillamy Park? Seriously? The condition of McPhillamy Park is atrocious. It currently can only be described as a sea of dirt, gravel and sloppy mud holes. Being a Horticulturist by trade and having literally earned my trade in parks and gardens, I know how much better this space can look with some love and care. ... The beautification of the western side of McPhillamy Park is surely a conversation we need to have. I’d like to see strategic tree and shrub planting (as not to negatively impact camping at the site), sealed walking paths and grass plantings with additional picnic shelters and seating installed. Let’s be honest, this space is underutilised. With the Go-Kart track work commencing shortly this will be a great visual offset and if trees and shrubs are planted correctly may even reduce any noise some people are concerned about. Let’s make McPhillamy Park a location that residents and visitors can enjoy.

12.01.2022 I’m about to enjoy a delicious RED SKIN!! But ssshhh please don’t tell anyone, I don’t want to get into trouble, the name change to Red Ripper doesn’t come in until next year

10.01.2022 BREAKING: Bathurst residents feel Oberon 3.0 magnitude tremor! Did you feel it?

09.01.2022 I had reason to call on the SES after yesterday’s storm and I can’t speak highly enough of the guys and gals who give their time to help those in need! They go above and beyond! Bloody legends! ... Thank you #bathurstses

09.01.2022 Thank Goodness Cr Jennings is not our Mayor! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing at the last council meeting during the debate regarding the Taco Bell Development Application. Cr Jennings Bathurst is closed to new business speech as I call it, was simply astounding. I think it’s really important to inform you, the voting public, the people I work for, on what goes on and some of the rubbish that’s spewed out by your elected officials. In case you missed it, here’s a quo...te of some of what he said, Taco Bell or any other new business in town is not going to magic up money into customers pockets, those customers that they get are therefore not going to another cafe or business in Bathurst. So has there been any assessment, if you want it as a question, in terms of the impacts of loss of sales from other local businesses, loss of employees from other local businesses and is there any indication of where the profits go from Taco Bell? Are they likely to be spent in the local community just like I suspect they very much are likely to be spent in the local community if people spend their money and put their profits with Piccolos, Ristretto, Bnajos, Country Coffee, Sweet Caramel, The Grind, Crema, Pit Stop Pies, Johnny Bean Good. Others a bit further in Al Dente, Legall, The Brew, Harvest Cafe, there’s a heap of em, there’s a heap of em and they will all have some negative impact from more competition..... and he goes on. During my closing speech on the DA I couldn’t help but announce Headline, Councillor Jennings, new business not welcome to Bathurst because you create competition, well that’s a new one to me. At this point Cr Jennings interjected with a point of order against me stating I just don’t like being misrepresented, if you want to quote me, quote my words Well ratepayers I’ve done just that and you can decide for yourself how ridiculous it is. Even some of those business owners mentioned contacted me and couldn’t believe it. How are some of these councillors elected?? Who votes for them? You must be so disappointed in the lack of action and bang for your vote. Jump on the Alex J. Christian train where we support existing local businesses, welcome new businesses into the region with open arms and actually get things done for the ratepayers in the Bathurst Regional Council area. Jobs, jobs, jobs!!!

09.01.2022 CHIFLEY DAM JUST HIT 90% CAPACITY

08.01.2022 Today we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice

07.01.2022 Beautiful Bathurst in a calendar good on you Melissa

06.01.2022 For anyone wanting to stand as a councillor in the future, I hope you enjoy reading! If you don’t know your subject matter you’ll get found out big time!!

06.01.2022 The final Bathurst Youth Council commitee meeting was held today for the current crop of Youth Councillors. I have been so impressed by this group of young people and what they’ve achieved, it’s really exceptional. Lead by Youth Mayor, St Stanislaus' College student Jack Lynch and Youth Deputy Mayor, Scots All Saints College student Natalia Burgess they have all carried themselves with distinction. ... I’m in awe of council staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes, seeing first hand what an incredible job they’ve done with this fine group. I wish all the Youth Councillors the very best with their upcoming exams and their future endeavours.

05.01.2022 As it should have been election week I’m going to revisit some of my achievements over the last three years. Keeping Panorama Clinic open during Christmas! * COUNCILLOR Alex Christian is furious that people with mental health problems were left without a place to stay over the Christmas period. ... * The question on his lips right now is ‘Will the clinic shut again this Christmas?’.Cr Christian has yet to receive a clear answer on this, but he plans to campaign so the answer won’t be ‘yes’. He said that, with this being a dual election year, he hoped it would become an election issue. I’ll certainly contact Paul Toole. I’ll also issue the challenge to other candidates to find out what they have to say, Cr Christian said. Cr Alex Christian was the first to raise concerns over the closure and he won the backing of many locals. * Cr Christian, who has been advocating for the essential service, was understandably pleased when he received confirmation that the clinic would remain open. It's a fantastic result. Everyone comes out as a winner in this situation," he said. I single handedly made this a state election issue having contacted all three of the major party candidates. This was a great result for people who are doing it tough.

05.01.2022 I REFUSE TO USE COVID AS A LAME EXCUSE TO DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR AUSTRALIA DAY!!! The Bathurst Australia Day Committee has refused to take the easy option of totally abandoning Australia Day next year and have decided to have;... The Bathurst Australia Day Weekend Fun Fair which will operate from Saturday through to Tuesday (Australia Day) next year at the Show Ground. The Manning Aquatic Centre will have free entry on Australia Day and at this stage a free sausage sizzle will be provided! The Australia Day Citizenship ceremony will be held at BMEC. The Bathurst CBD will be decorated with Australia Day flags and banners etc subject to grant funding. This isn’t the dream, however it’s the best we can do under the current circumstances It’s time to get some Aussie spirt back, Aussies don’t cower and we aren’t meek, weak, coelenterates...are we?!

04.01.2022 Over 50 local jobs on the line Tonight council addresses my rescission motion regarding the previous appalling Taco Bell DA decision. I’m fighting bloody hard to make sure we don’t lose these jobs for young people. This decision could be the difference between you or your child having a much needed employment opportunity in the future. ... Ironically, its BizMonth where we are asked to support and promote businesses in Bathurst, We are officially in a recession, We are in the middle of a job killing pandemic, Employment opportunities have stalled, The unemployment rate is sky high. Yet some councillors are happy to risk losing around 50 local jobs because they know better than the RMS, DA policies, Council planning staff and this companies research and site investigations. Unbelievable. I’ll do my very best to get you a good result. Stay tuned.

04.01.2022 THE GREENS AGENDA is surging along with full power under the noses of Bathurstians! We are seeing their agenda of less cars in the CBD coming to life in the proposed Bathurst Town Centre Master Plan. ... I’ve been bombarded with emails and phone calls over the last two weeks from deeply concerned ratepayers and business owners regarding this plan, it’s ALL negative feedback with the major concern being the loss upwards of 700 parking spaces in some estimates in the CBD. Most the concerns relate to, - Changing parking from angle to parallel on William Street and Keppel Street to install bicycle lanes. - Installing more crossings in the CBD. - Permanent closure of Russell Street between George and William Streets. - Planting trees on the edge of the roadway taking away parking spaces. (I like the idea of trees and beautification but not at the expense of car parking.) - Interpretive cultural signage and artwork throughout CBD. (Maybe in some cases it’s not all bad, remember Clr Jennings carried on about the Evans statue because he didn’t know what he was talking about?) - Add to this, the Greens councillors plans to install stinking rotten compost bins you can sit and eat your lunch on in the CBD. During the presentation it was mentioned autonomous (driverless) shuttles will also reduce the need for cars. It’s stuff of fantasy, the autonomous shuttle in Newcastle is disaster. This plan is designed to encourage bike riding and walking which in a large country town isn’t appropriate. Coupled with my constant struggle to get Australia Day up and running, I’d say the Greens Agenda is alive and well in Bathurst. This is what happens when you have a large segment of the voting public who are apathetic towards local politics. The people that actually care are forced live with this nonsense. I can prove this is agenda driven with the following screen shots. Fear not, unlike a few of my fellow councillors, I’m on the side of Business and commonsense but I need your support.

03.01.2022 During usual times this week would have been the final week of campaigning before the local government election, which was to be held this Saturday. It’s a huge shame you won’t have the opportunity to cut the deadwood out of this current council and elect some fresh, motivated and happy people in their place. I do not mention this to be negative or condescending, it’s merely a statement of fact. I would love a public election debate where I could ask three or four of our cu...rrent councillors what the hell have you actually done for the ratepayers of this region, name three things? It would be cringeworthy stuff. Having now seen the inner workings of local politics I have seen the hatred, pettiness and laziness I was warned about first hand, and I will take great joy in calling those councillors out at the next election, however I am constantly amazed at the passion, pride and hard work exhibited by Mayor Bobby Bourke, Deputy Mayor Ian North and Councillors Warren Aubin and Monica Morse. I can honestly say I’m very impressed with them, even though Cr Morse and I are very different people, only occasionally seeing eye to eye, I respect her passion and hard work pushing for the things she believes in, it’s admirable, and on a personal level I have found Councillors Fry and Hanger to be great blokes and both have a fantastic sense of humour which I enjoy. Since being elected I can see both arguments supporting and opposing the need for nine (9) councillors. Today though, I feel six (6) councillor positions would be more appropriate as the current nine seat system rewards mediocrity at the ballot box. Why should someone elected with only a handful of votes have the exact same voting power to influence major policy outcomes or DA decisions as someone like me who topped the under the line first preference vote with thousands of votes? Its not in the public’s interest in my opinion, nor is the group ticket system, it’s broken and only serves the purpose of protecting political parties and the person leading the ticket. It was designed so these fetid political parties could infect local politics. And again, why should someone who lacked the courage to run on their own, instead hiding behind someone else, have the exact same voting power as someone like me who respected the voters intelligence and ran on my own convictions and promises as a solo candidate? I will continue to live by the sword and I realise possibly dying by the sword, as a stand alone, solo ticketed independent running on what I’ve achieved for you, not hiding behind a greasy political party or four or five others and their votes to guarantee I get a seat at the table. With twelve months until the next election, I won’t stop busting my arse for all of you whom which im so privileged to serve. I continue to be humbled and tremendously honoured by your steadfast support. Your man on the ground, the silent majorities voice, Alex J. Christian

01.01.2022 If you’d like voice your opinion on the Greens utopian vision of the CBD where pedestrians and bicycles are welcome but leave your filthy motor vehicle at home, then please do so. I have attached the video of the plan in the comments section. Not all of it is bad but it reeks of agenda driven anti car nonsense. Check it out for yourself.
