25.01.2022 After a few years of hardcore slog on his apprenticeship (and a few years of hardcore slog prior to that) - this guy just got signed off! And we couldn't be more proud . Well done on achieving your qualification as a Climbing Arborist Lachie!

24.01.2022 Is captioning this with 'Danger is my middle name' too much? Not much room for error on this one.

23.01.2022 We are really proud to be making a monthly donation to the Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund from Ecological Tree Services. This is in an effort to offset our carbon footprint a little as a business and also to contribute to the planting of native trees around Australia. The Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund raises money to plant trees and vegetation on degraded land, restoring the native habitats of Australia, as well as helps individuals, families and organisations to minimise their impact on the environment. There is heaps more info, as well as the different ways you might like to help out to, on their website - cncf.com.au

22.01.2022 Are you a heights lover or hater ?

22.01.2022 You won't see me selfie too often, but this is me doing tree work at the family home I grew up in. The owners were referred to me a year or two ago, with no idea of the history I have with this property. The first call I received was to prune trees that were originally planted by my Dad when I was a kid. The team may or may not have heard all of the 'when I was a little boy' stories as the job progressed. The universe works in mysterious ways! #childhoodhome #arboristbrisbane #alexthearborist

22.01.2022 One thing we pride ourselves on is not just doing the job right... but making sure we clean up once the job is done . . #happycustomers #stumpgrinding #prideinourwork #qualifiedandinsured #skilledtradesman #tidyjobsite

21.01.2022 WEED OR WONDER Native Gardenia, otherwise known as Atractocarpus fitzalanii, is a fantastic Australian Native rain forest tree. As far as backyard shade trees, this one is hard to beat. It’s relatively small (5-6m in most situations), doesn’t have problem roots and is often as wide as it is tall, proving a great canopy. These trees also have a fragrant Gardenia-like flower in Spring. Flowers may be followed by an edible fruit, which starts green and turns yellow when ...ripe. Recommended species!

21.01.2022 We are so grateful for our happy customers .

20.01.2022 WEED OR WONDER Golden Penda is a species of tree in the Myrtle family, they are renowned for their twice yearly bloom, which is a hit with native bees. It responds well to pruning so they can easily be maintained as a shrub or an informal hedge, they should be pruned each year after flowering. The good news is that Golden Penda's suffer from minimal pests and diseases! It's a yes from us.... Recommended species!

18.01.2022 An interesting read!

18.01.2022 We take safety very seriously, for all members of the team! #safetyfirst

18.01.2022 You all know this guy. He is our Lead Climber and a huge part of the Ecological Tree Services family. Julian is a highly skilled Climbing Arborist and just a bit of a legend really. In February this year there was an accident on one of our job sites that saw him come out of tree - a day I'm sure none of us would like to ever relive. Amongst some pretty decent bruising, some other minor injuries and a hefty recovery, Julian needed surgery on his shoulder. With lots of ongoing... rehab (with some fun homeschooling of his two kids in amongst it) Julian is on the mend and will be returning to work over the coming months. But not with us. And not in trees. He has been using his downtime to re-skill and become an excavator operator. To this we say, good luck Julian! We know any company will very be lucky to have you!! Our loss is their gain. Also, the boys want you back, apparently you are a nicer crew leader than I am A special shoutout to Kath too (Julian's wife). Being an Arb wife can be tough. It takes a special breed to do what we do in trees everyday, but it takes an even more special breed to support us through it. I imagine that the only thing worse than being married to an Arborist would be being married to a grounded one - so this is for you We should mention that we do have a pretty damn good safety record. But this industry is not without its risks, regularly making those 'Top 5 most dangerous jobs' list, a fact that we do not take lightly. Stay safe everyone.

17.01.2022 Are your trees trying to tell you something? Water me? Feed me?... Did know that trees and plants can suffer from nutrient deficiencies? The more common one I see is nitrogen deficiency, which usually presents with pale or yellowing leaves. 15.01.2022 WEED OR WONDER The pepper tree is a large tree with spreading branches and compound leaves. Its leaves have 5-9 leaflets, and these leaflets are stalkless. Separate male and female flowers are borne on different plants. These flowers are inconspicuous and borne in densely branched clusters at the tips of the branches and in the leaf forks. Its small glossy 'berries' (about 6 mm across) and turn bright red in colour when ripe. It has been selected among the top 100 of ...the world's worst invasive alien species. With all of that in mind, it's a no from us. Not recommended!

14.01.2022 Normally on here I am all about my hat as an Arborist. Today I am all about Alex the Dad. These two . Not much more to say really . Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dads, Step Dads, Granddads and all of those that step into that role in some capacity. ... How's this for a good shot .

12.01.2022 WEED OR WONDER The fact that the Cocos Palm (or Queen Palm) is actually a noxious weed comes as a surprise to a lot of people. Cocos Palms (Syagrus romanzoffiana) are regarded as an environmental weed in Queensland due to its ability to prolifically reproduce creating thick carpets of seedlings that outcompete recruiting native species. Issues also arise from their seeds that are a favourite of fruit bats and have been known to cause deaths due to them getting lodged ...in their throats (not to mention the bat poop beneath the palms). Additionally Cocos Palms are not a 'self-cleaning' palm (unlike Alexandra Palms and similar) which means the fronds stay in the palm although dead causing them to become 'messy' over time unless professionally 'cleaned'. Not recommended!

11.01.2022 Its the little things in life that make all the difference

10.01.2022 Why, you ask...? Not everyone knows that in order to become qualified as an Arborist we complete an apprenticeship, just like most other trades based qualifications. In this case it is a Certificate III in Horticulture specialising in Arboriculture (sounds a little flashier than tree lopper hey). Its pretty thorough and we cover everything from chainsaw use, how to cut a tree for long term growth and health, meeting Australian standards, tree health including pests and diseas...es and even rescuing someone from a tree in case of an accident. At the risk of stating the obvious, our industry is not without it's dangers which is why it is so important that the person you hire is qualified and capable to carry out the job. You see there are a number of people out there working as 'Tree Loppers' that can and will work on your trees for you, but it doesn't mean that they SHOULD. There are far too many instances where they are not qualified and therefore are not eligible to be insured for this type of work. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying this because I am concerned about who the work is going to, there is no shortage of work to go around. But because there is a reason we go through a few years worth of training for this job, not because it means there is not risk to what we do, but it certainly goes a long way to help reduce the potential risk involved. So when you are looking for someone to work around your property, don't hesitate to ask them about their qualifications and insurances for your peace of mind, any qualified Arborist will be more than happy to share.

10.01.2022 It's a long way to the top.

08.01.2022 3 reasons to hire an Arborist (instead of a Tree Lopper) #1 - Qualifications At the risk of stating the obvious, our industry is not without it's dangers which is why it is so important that the person you hire is qualified and capable to carry out the job.... Not everyone knows that in order to become qualified as an Arborist we complete an apprenticeship, just like most other trades based qualifications. It's pretty thorough and we cover everything from chainsaw use, how to cut a tree for long term growth and health, meeting Australian standards, tree health including pests and diseases and even rescuing someone from a tree in case of an accident. #2 - Insurance You see there are a number of people out there working as 'Tree Loppers' that can and will work on your trees for you, but it doesn't mean that they SHOULD. There are far too many instances where they are not qualified and therefore are not eligible to be insured for this type of work. When you are looking for someone to work around your property, don't hesitate to ask them about their qualifications and insurances such as Certificate of Currency and WorkCover, as any qualified Arborist will be more than happy to share. #3 - Peace of mind There is no shortage of work to go around between Arborist's and Tree Loppers, but there is a reason we go through a few years worth of training for this job, not because it means there is no risk to what we do, but it certainly goes a long way to help reduce the potential risk involved. #arboristbrisbane #treelopperbrisbane #treeworkbrisbane #ecotreeservices

07.01.2022 I am more often asked about Australian Native Bee Hives now that we are into Spring It is no secret that I am a huge fan of these little creatures, having rescued hives for well over 10 years now. I have also been lucky enough to do a number of courses and get to know some very clever people doing amazing things in this field. Would anyone be keen for me to do a little blog series on Native Bee Keeping?... Leave any questions you might have here and I will see if I can answer them, or point you in the direction of someone who can.

04.01.2022 WEED OR WONDER The Cascade Lilly Pilly is a beautiful mid-sized shrub with mid-sized glossy apple green leaves and attractive red and pink new growth. It is a great feature, screen, hedge or topiary plant that is also good for pots. One of my favourite things about the Cascade Lilly Pilly is that is attracts lots of different native wildlife and is a favourite of native bees. It's a definite yes!... Recommended species!

03.01.2022 It's the little things in life that make all the difference

03.01.2022 WEED OR WONDER African Tulip trees (Spathodea campanulata) are regarded as a significant environmental weed in Queensland, the Northern Territory, and on Christmas Island.
