25.01.2022 Instagram continues to be one of the big boys of social media marketing. Here's a few tips from Hootsuite about maximising use of some business friendly features. Some of them you'll have seen before, but there's sure to be some you haven't.

25.01.2022 The rise and fall of social media platform monthly users. Its mesmerising (and a bit sad for us old enough to remember My Space).

25.01.2022 Had a great morning working on LinkedIn profiles with Eve and Jane from Umbrella Family Law, and look, I scored one of their umbrellas brooches! - just the thing for today

24.01.2022 Working on my presentation for tomorrows Social Media Trends presentation with Kingston Business. Got anything youd really like me to cover? Let me know and Ill see what I can do.

24.01.2022 If youre in Melbournes south east and like the sound of 2 hours of 1:1 digital mentoring for your small business, click away. Youll get your choice of mentor (pick me ) and we can meet wherever suits you best.

24.01.2022 Did you know that Australian social media usage peaks in January? Yet, many businesses choose to let their social media take a holiday during the time when most of their customers are most active. Doesnt make sense really! If youre after short term social media coverage so that you can take a holiday yourself, why not get in touch.

24.01.2022 Ye olde hashtag question - I should start every training session with answering this one. How can one little symbol cause #somuchgrief?

23.01.2022 Ive mentioned before how much Im loving being part of the federally funded Australian Small Business Advisory Services (ASBAS) Digital Solutions Program. Next week Im delivering Social Media 101 (at Kingston Business and Instagram Marketing (at Whitehorse City Council) in conjunction with the Melbourne Innovation Centre run program. If youre a small biz owner its the best $55 youll ever spend as youll get access to workshops, 1:1 mentoring and interactive webinars, a...ll designed to help your business grow. Want to know more about the ASBAS program?

23.01.2022 Got an ABN and less than 20 employees? If so,youre eligible for the ASBAS program, - government sponsored ($55 one time fee), high-quality, digital advisory services (including mentoring) for small businesses. If theres enough interest, Ill be holding mentoring sessions in Leongatha and Sale towards the end of February. Heres your chance to spend 2 hours covering any aspect of digital, email or social media marketing 1:1. Interested? Comment below or shoot me a DM.

22.01.2022 Email marketing should form part of every business's digital marketing strategy. Tomorrow night's session at Kingston Business (in conjunction with Melbourne Innovation Centre) aims to equip business owners with just how effective a Mail Chimp campaign can be. See you there?

22.01.2022 Social media and weddings go together like.... (insert name of favourite couple). Imagine tying the knot with a backdrop like this. (Oh and: Melbourne winter )

20.01.2022 It may almost be February, but its not too late to set your new year social media resolutions. If theres one thing I can recommend, it is that you should have a strategy that guides your overall objectives, tone, content, etc. and a calendar that actually maps this out. I know it sounds time consuming (and it can be at the outside), but it will help alleviate fingers.hovering.what.will.i.post.today stress and keep your social media posting on message and on time.

15.01.2022 Working on a public holiday aint so bad with an outlook like this.

15.01.2022 You know how sometimes you meet people that just blow you away with their drive and passion? Anne is one such person. Shes been to the Antarctic and to Mt Everest and now shes off to the Arctic (!) in a few weeks as part of an expedition to explore the impacts of global environmental negligence. When she returns Anne will be running a Virtual Arctic Conference for secondary school students across Australia. Follow along with Annes incredible adventure at Anne Burke Consultancy.

14.01.2022 Tuesday 29th at 6.00pm. Part of Melbourne Innovation Centres ASBAS Program (in conjunction with Kingston Business) which means its high quality, low cost event developed for small business owners. I think youll like the Facilitator .

14.01.2022 Social media training is the absolute lifeblood of my business which is fortunate as it is what I love doing above all other business-y things. If youre thinking about social media training for your business have a read of my blog post first. Signing up for a public training event may seem the obvious option, but if you could cover everything you want to know, in half the time and in your workplace - why wouldnt you?

13.01.2022 Its no secret that I like the sound of my own voice so when RMIT University asked if Id like to be part of their panel discussion on mobile first design in education, I said yes - in a bite their hand off yes kind of way.

13.01.2022 The benefits of working alone. Its my left over curry and Ill eat it at my desk if I want to! This brought back memories of one of my first jobs where sat in the cubicle next to me was a tea slurper. 5 cups a day - at maximum volume.

12.01.2022 A big thank you to all those (and hello if youre here for the first time as a result) that attended Fridays Whats New in Social Media in 2019 session held in conjunction with Kingston Business. In the interests of absolute transparency (authenticity and transparency was one of the things we covered....) I have no photos or video to share with you from the event as I temporarily lost.my.phone. Thankfully it later turned up at Woolworths!!

12.01.2022 Sometimes I think we over complicate the whole social media thing. Sure, the platforms may change (annoyingly often!), but in terms of strategy, the basics stay the same. Engage, build a community, give people a reason to follow your account. Thoughts?

11.01.2022 Fun being here at St Kilda Football Club on behalf of Holmesglen. Last nights win makes for a happy class today.

10.01.2022 Instagram continues to be one of the big boys of social media marketing. Heres a few tips from Hootsuite about maximising use of some business friendly features. Some of them youll have seen before, but theres sure to be some you havent.

10.01.2022 Knowing who youre talking to and why is hugely important on social media. So many businesses forget to put the social in media and without knowing your audience its hard (impossible!) to talk your audiences language and share information that resonates with them. Love this article from my old school friend, Natalie, aka Miss Independent, who talks about this very thing.

09.01.2022 $55 for a three hour workshop that covers the foundations of social media marketing and gives you access to two hours 1:1 mentoring? Sounds good, right? If youre a small business the Australian Small Business Advisory Services (ASBAS) Digital Solutions Program is just what you need to get your digital presence rolling.

09.01.2022 Only a couple of days to go! Theres still a few tickets available. See you there?

09.01.2022 Confession time. I've become a little fixated on true crime podcasts. I'm currently listening to this and looking to line up more. Any recommendations?

08.01.2022 Oh my thats a close close up..... Looking forward to talking all things social strategy at IOPO International conference later this month.

06.01.2022 Im super excited to be running a lunchtime event in conjunction with Kingston Business on 21 June. Well be covering the must know social media topics for 2019 with plenty of time for networking and questions. Tickets are $35 and include a light lunch. (Tip from someone who loves their food: be first at the buffet and lunch need not be light ).

06.01.2022 Dont you just love a long train trip? Read, work, sleep, visit buffet car. Repeat. Thanks VLine you were sensational!

06.01.2022 Following on from yesterdays post about hashtag grief - I always recount the Susan Doyle album release hashtag as a cautionary tale about making your own hashtags. Makes me blush every time but gee its a good case in point.

05.01.2022 Recently I was invited to talk all things social media strategy with the good peeps at Entegra Signature Structures in Swan Hill. Have a look at this size of this beast theyre building for storing avocados . Thats a shed load of smashed avo breakfasts right there.

05.01.2022 I tried to ignore it (who has time to learn another platform??) but it looks like Tik Tok is here to stay. Got a young audience and ready to have a bit of fun with video? Youll want to check this out.

04.01.2022 Confession time. Ive become a little fixated on true crime podcasts. Im currently listening to this and looking to line up more. Any recommendations?

04.01.2022 Will be watching this one keenly. Im often asked about removing negative reviews. Seems it now might actually be possible. Via The Sydney Morning Herald.

04.01.2022 Hey, I sent a newsletter . Want to see it and perhaps subscribe to the next one? Go on....

03.01.2022 It may almost be February, but it's not too late to set your new year social media resolutions. If there's one thing I can recommend, it is that you should have a strategy that guides your overall objectives, tone, content, etc. and a calendar that actually maps this out. 03.01.2022 It sounds like a bit of a hollow message given all were experiencing in Australia but the moment, but heres to a safe and happy 2020. xx

03.01.2022 Ah bless our clients. Ive *asked* them to send me more videos and they have - all in 16:9 - not great for Insta. Thank goodness for my appy best friend, AndroVid. Square videos in a few short swipes (plus a few extra because of my fat stubby fingers). Get on it - it works a treat.

02.01.2022 Ever tried to launch your own small business on the smell of an oily rag ?? Then youll know that accessing inexpensive, high quality, government subsidised advice is a bit of a win. If youre a small biz operating in Vic, Tas or SA, jump on board the ASBAS Program. For $55 youll get access to a shed load of workshops, webinars and 2 hours of 1:1 mentoring.

02.01.2022 For me, theres nothing more powerful than social proof. The example I often use is booking a holiday. Remember the old days when booking a holiday meant making a decision based on a tiny photograph in a brochure? Then when youd get to the resort it looked nothing like you expected and rather than looking out onto a beautiful pool, your room overlooked the bins. (True story!). These days, we check out TripAdvisor, Instagram, Facebook and read all the reviews before we fina...lly make our decision. Of course, this doesnt just apply to holidays, think about the process you go through before choosing a restaurant, engaging with a professional service or buying online. Social proof is what gives the confidence to hand over our $$. If youre a business, you really cant afford not to encourage your customers to generate social proof on your behalf. Because, if it comes down to a choice of two, where one business has plenty of reviews and content and the other doesnt, I know who Im choosing.
