25.01.2022 What surprise awaits for the families, children and educators on Monday? Here's a sneak peak.
25.01.2022 It has been a very busy week in the Toddler Room. The children have been getting active inside and out with the balance beam and footy. There has been a lot of messy play as we learn to mix colours and use different techniques. We are starting a new project about magpies as we have all made friends with the local magpies.
24.01.2022 What does a cloud feel like? The Nursery children participated in an experience that focused on cause and effect and sensory exploration. The children are very good at noticing different aspects of their environment and pointed out the many different shapes in the sky. To this discovery we posed the question "what does a cloud feel like?" The children set off to work to create their very own clouds by mixing ingredients together to create cloud dough in order to experiment with texture.
23.01.2022 During the Nurserys dance and movement session the children were keen to wear the Dinosaur tails. The children loved stomping around the room with the Dinosaur Stomp song.
23.01.2022 The kinder children would like to introduce Oliver the astronaut The children have designed and created Oliver using photos from their books and the internet. The children are so proud of what they have created and the staff are pretty excited about it too! ... Oliver is currently in the foyer so that the children can display their amazing work!
22.01.2022 MELBOURNE CUP PUBLIC HOLIDAY A reminder to all families our Service is closed tomorrow. Enjoy your day and the sunshine!
22.01.2022 The children in the Toddler Room displayed their curiosity in colour mixing when we made the play dough. The children told me it looked like the ocean. To continue this idea we got out the wooden underwater animals, shells and stones to use with our ocean coloured play dough. The children have been asking us to read more books relating to the ocean and underwater animals.
22.01.2022 Here are some more amazing costumes from our Kinder group! We have had astronauts that barrack for Richmond, Captain America and Paw Patrol among some other amazing characters. Tomorrow we will celebrate our football teams and enjoy a footy day celebration!
21.01.2022 This week the Toddler Room have taken the inside experiences outside, making the most of the glorious sunshine. We have had group time and lunch outside after spending the mornings painting, drawing, playing ball games as well as getting messy with cloud dough, slime and making a volcano out of paper mache. The children have also been keen to help sweep the paths to make sure we have a safer playground. We would love to see what things your family get up too outside in the sunshine.
20.01.2022 Through the children curiosity in dress ups we have found a real interest for trying on hats. This has led the children to create their very own attire for their heads. Our very clever children are also communication to us the word hat, which is what initiated this experience in the beginning.
20.01.2022 Wow, wow, wow. Is all I can say about the transformation our outdoor environments are going through. Take alook and let us know what you think.
20.01.2022 We would love for you all, to share your appreciation to the educators on Early Childhood Educators Day. We have cards available in the foyer for you to write ...a little message of thanks which will then be displayed in the hallway. Please help me to celabrate the hard working and deadicate team at Alfredton. See more
20.01.2022 Physical Activity with Coach Paul. In the Kinder room this week, the children began a physical movement and development program created by Paul. This week they developed their hand-eye coordination skills using bean bags. Children practiced catching and throwing. We cant wait to continue our sports program!
20.01.2022 Friendly reminder to all families that masks must be worn when in the service. Zoe one of our amazing parents, has spent the weekend making a variety of masks for parents to purchase at the service. These masks meet the Covid-19 mask regulations, set by DDHS.
20.01.2022 "This is the way we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands..." We are reminding our children, now more than ever, of the importance in hand washing and doing so regularly. One way to teach our children to make washing their hands an everyday action is to make it fun! Add a step stool to the sink to make it easy to reach for little hands... Keep it simple with 5 easy steps - wet, lather, scrub, rinse and dry Sing a 20 second song or make a game of it, see who can get the most soap bubbles on their hands and between their fingers Practising hand washing as a habit will keep those around us safe!
19.01.2022 In the Nursery the children have been involved in some science experiments to learn about colours through mixing ingredients to form a reaction. The children helped to add spots of colour, then bicarbonate soda over the top. Next the children took a cup of vinegar to reveal what might happen to the colours. Once added the children were most interested in the bubbles that it created as they exclaimed Ohh’.
19.01.2022 The Nurserys own version of Kerplunk!! The children have been introduced to a classic family game, Kerplunk. The children have enjoyed placing the straws through the holes and removing them again. This has been a great opportunity to assist the children in developing their hand-eye coordination and cement friendships in group collaboration.
18.01.2022 Our busy Nursery children continued to experiment with cause and effect by adding different ingredients together to see the composition change into something different. The different ingredients when mixed together and bound by water and oil turned into a soft squishy compound, wow! The children spent lots of time experimenting with the texture and learning new descriptive words for what they were experiencing.
18.01.2022 Tomorrow we will be having a Pj Day to mark Red Nose day. Due to DHHS guidelines (limiting transmission by not using cash) we will be unable to take any type of donations. The service will be making a donation on everyones behalf. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed in their coziest Pjs.
18.01.2022 The Toddler Room have been celebrating Science Week in a few different ways this week. We have been exploring the sense of touch through jelly, paint and chalk. We have explored the natural world learning about birds nests and making our own wings. We sat under the dry cover and watched the rain come down and further discussed the different types of weather we see outside. Have a great day and please share with us how you explore science at home.
18.01.2022 The Toddler's had a great day spent exploring our amazing new playground!!! We road tripped in the car, built sandcastles, used the sand kitchen to make mud pies and used the slide over and over and over again.
18.01.2022 Playground news updates- through a child's eyes.
17.01.2022 This week has been a busy week in Kinder! The children have been exploring rockets; they have watched launches, launched their own and started exploring how rockets land. We have also been enjoying the nicer weather and coach Paul took us outside for social sports games!
16.01.2022 Reading is such a special way to connect and become familiar with sounds, words, language and, eventually the joy of reading books. This all builds your babys early literacy skills and helps build a love of reading and literature later on in life. Our Nursery children are very intrigued in the function of a book and the connections it creates when reading with their peers and educators.
16.01.2022 Everyone at Alfredton Early learning and Kinder would like to congratulate our graduating Kinder children! Last week they enjoyed a very special celebration day filled with a trip to the local park, special lunch and a movie afternoon. We have all enjoyed watching them grown over their time here and are so proud of all of their achievements. We wish them all the best as they head off to Primary School.
16.01.2022 The week that was.... This week at Kinder children have been participating in a week long experiment; rocket landing. Children used plastic bags and their science skills to create parachutes to land their rockets. Just like with every science experiment we have had some successful and not so successful outcomes. We had rockets that floated all the way to the landing pad and some that went right over the kinder roof never to be seen again! We have been asking children questions about how they think rockets take off and land. We also asked children what they think makes rockets fly. Children watched educational videos to support their understanding. At home, children can continue to learn about and explore space through educational videos, stories and questions that challenging their thinking.
16.01.2022 Outdoor area update. The outdoor environment is taking shape. Now we can see paths, a sandpit and garden areas. Bluestone Heritage colour has been used in paths, to repersent the Bluestone guttering Ballarat is well known for in Sturt st.
15.01.2022 What a great way to spend a cold Ballarat night with the children. Grab a blanket and snuggle near the computer screen. Watch the beautiful display of penguins arriving on the shore. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10164067742035364&id=71626255363
14.01.2022 A BIG thank you the Katie, Ben And Harry, for our amazing Halloween themed morning tea. Delicious......
13.01.2022 Group collaboration What wonderful team work we have here between two friends. Together the boys worked in partnership to negotiate the space and share the materials while working towards on a common goal. This beautiful piece of art work will be proudly displayed in the room to further reflect on the wonderful creation the children shared together.
13.01.2022 What is the difference between rough and smooth? Our Nursery children have been exploring their way through the concept of opposing textures this week. In this experiment we used sand paper sheets on the wall. The children then shortly learnt that some objects with soft textures were sticking to the sand paper. To this we then added felt shapes for the children to continue to see what would stick whilst talking about the textures smooth and rough.
11.01.2022 The children in the Nursery love sharing peek-a- boo and hide and seek together utilising objects they can hide behind. Now all we were missing was the tunnel and what better martial then reusing cardboard boxes and connect them together.
10.01.2022 Almost completed. This coming Monday the new outdoor environments will be ready for the children and families to explore.
10.01.2022 Can you walk like an astronaut? It was an exciting day at kinder today when the children discovered that an astronaut had left them a pair of space boots to try out! The children investigated the boots and found a name at the bottom, turns out the astronauts name is Oliver. The children also discovered they are very heavy and very big!
10.01.2022 Keeping you in the loop. Exciting pictures from our new outdoor environment. Paths, outdoor atelier and gardens taking shape.

09.01.2022 Physical Activity. Plastic balls and Tennis Balls. Over the last couple of weeks, we have been working on our throwing and catching skills. Using tennis balls when we have been able to adventure outside, and for safety reasons we have been using plastic balls inside.... Children have used these experiences to further their sharing and turn taking skills whilst being paired up, learning underarm and overarm throwing and catching skills. Once we had some confidence we moved further apart and started to throw over arm attempting to catch the ball. On Thursdays we have been doing some free experiences; Totem tennis and soccer and as well as setting up the activities we have been learning from the Tuesday sessions.
08.01.2022 Making Neptune This week the kinder children have continued to make the 8 planets. Children discovered that Neptune has large clouds, storms and it spins really fast! Here is their interpretation of Neptune
08.01.2022 Our curious learners in the Nursery have discovered a new technique in order to express their creative imaginations. The children were introduced to the concept of sticky in order to gather all their materials onto their page using glue. The children were really interested in this idea and spent lots of time as a group collaborating together and sharing the materials.
07.01.2022 Some of the kinder children wanted to share some of their most favourite spots in our outdoor environment. It’s wonderful to see the children discovering new areas of interest every time they go out into their brand-new yard.
07.01.2022 Today we continued to experiment with texture by adding sand to a finger paining activity. This experience helped the children visualise the change of consistency from smooth to rough by adding different materials to the paint.
05.01.2022 The Toddler Room would like to give a little up date on how are garden is growing. We inspected our compost which has been developing over the last month or two. It is looking very healthy with lots of worms. The succulents are healthy and we hope will grow even healthier with our compost. The celery and beans are doing amazing and have survived the frost. They too now have some healthy compost on them. We also discovered a carrot growing in our compost and have grown that. We look forward to producing some more veggies and herbs over the coming weeks. Please share any photos of your gardens, veggie patches or herbs at home.
05.01.2022 Feelings and emotions In the Kinder room, children have been focusing on their emotions and feelings. Children have been working with educators to identify their feelings and use a range of strategies to manage their feelings. We have a feelings wall which reflects the Zones of Regulation program and the movie Inside out. With the support of visual components such as photos, movie characters and a mirror, children have been making great progress. More information about the Zones of Regulation and how you can use this resource at home can be found at https://www.zonesofregulation.com/index.html

01.01.2022 Look what has found a permanent parking spot in our new outdoor environment.
01.01.2022 Our curious learners in the Nursery are always keen to paint, and as we know everything must go in our mouths. To support the children in their endeavors to mouth and explore the sensory properties the world around them we decided to introduce coconut cream paint. This wonderfully edible marital thickens once in the fridge for a few hours into a gloriously squishy compound that the children can use in their own ways. Some used the material to finger paint with, some used it to splash in and others tested the taste of this new flavour.

01.01.2022 Today some of the Toddler Room children had a cafe style lunch. After group time we had some of the children join educators in the Nido Fine Dinning area of the centre. The children continued showing their self help skills by serving themselves and cleaning their dishes. We look forward to continuing this over the coming weeks.
01.01.2022 Let’s get digging: In continuation of the children’s thoughts on the work that is ongoing outside, they have started to create some construction work of their own. Using the different elements that we see being used outside such as sand, soil, wood and construction vehicles the children began exploring and engaging with the materials themselves. We then added some tools to inspect the materials further including magnifying glasses, mirrors and coloured Perspex view finders.
