23.01.2022 Home Much to reflect and discern about from our amazing adventure with 2020 Catholic Mission CamBROdia Ride and Stride. Big for all of the prayers and support. Truly, Muchly Appreciated.

22.01.2022 This awesome team . We’ve now completed the Ride component of our 2020 Cambodia Ride and Stride. Cycling some 60km over two days through forests, Angkor Wat Temples and complex, rural villages and cities, we’ve gained an enormous insight into the lives of the Cambodian people and a much deeper appreciation and understanding of their society, cultures and traditions. It has been a challenging and deeply rewarding privilege and experience. Highly recommended. Here is the team pictured at the South Gate of the Angkor Thom Temple.

15.01.2022 The amazingly transformative Experiences of Encountering and Engaging. to the people of Battambang province in Cambodia and Catholic Mission for this humbling opportunity.

14.01.2022 Today we visited the Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum, to further understand for ourselves the darkest part of Cambodian History. To say the experiences were challenging and confronting is indeed an understatement. It will take a while for us to process what we have witnessed, as it has and continues to do so for the Cambodian people. Please meet Mr. Chum Mey. He is one of only a handful of people who survived incarceration in Tuol Sleng prison, or the notorious S-21, a former schoolhouse that became the main interrogation centre of the Khmer Rouge in the Cambodian Civil War from 1975-1979. Mr. Chum Mey’s is an amazing story of absolute survival against the odds. The hope that spring eternal. A privilege and an honour to have met him today.

13.01.2022 Angkor Wat. Simply amazing. Privileged to have been able to visit this legendary place. The whole complex is literally in a jungle which we rode through on bikes. Then this stunning and huge structure (various temples and pools etc) emerge. Lots of intricate carvings. Amazing that it was built in 9th, 10th Century. Simply amazing.

02.01.2022 Traditional Khmer Dancing in a cross cultural collaboration. Last night we attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Welcome Centre in the Parish of Tahen, Battambang, Cambodia. This Welcome Centre is supported by Catholic Mission. We were really warmly welcomed by the students and staff and joined them for a beautiful dinner then prayer service. The prayer service was in their church / hall and it was led by two young women (maybe 15/16years old). The service was totally in Khmer ...but one could follow roughly the gospel reading , creed, prayers of faithful etc. and the singing. Woah! The singing was so beautiful with every child and adult singing with with full gusto and enthusiasm a deep reverence (a lot of students are Buddhist, even in a Catholic setting) Quite moving. Then we had front row seats (actually there was only one row but I digress) to watch the students perform traditional Khmer dances. Oh wow they were amazing. One of the dance they did links back to the Angkor Wat times and is actually inscribed on the temple. But these students were so nimble and controlled and were brilliant at conveying emotion and perfect routines as a team. They were definitely proud amabassadors of their culture. To cap off the night came the audience participation and we all had a laugh dancing with the students, trying our best to imitate their delicates Cambodian dance moves. Loadsa fun with laughter all round. An awesome cross-cultural celebration. Big See more
