23.01.2022 Cr Anne Napoli of Griffith City Council is Staying at Home in the Time of COVID 19. I chose to isolate with my husband and son about three weeks ago. The reason is my son has a disability and therefore vulnerable. It is hard, but necessary. I am lucky in so many ways compared with other Carers who also have to isolate and to listen to their stories is heartbreaking, especially for those that live in the city. Their services have been cut out completely or cut back. They cann...ot go to the supermarket to buy groceries because they cannot leave their loved ones alone. They may phone for an order, but it will not be delivered. There are essential provisions they can not get, like toilet paper. Most Primary Carers are women and unpaid, a high percentage of them are ageing and caring for their son or daughter with a significant disability. How can we help them? I try to share positive posts on Facebook or make a phone call to those I know to have a little chat and ask if they need anything. As for my Council, Griffith City Council, we had our first workshop last night on Zoom. It was better than I expected. Our future Ordinary Council Meetings and Workshops will be on Zoom, at least until the restrictions are lifted. All our Committees have been put on hold for now. I am concerned about the economic and health impact these uncharted times will have on our communities. As for me personally, I try every day to stay positive, especially for my husband and son. I need to keep up my son’s therapy and keep him motivated. We have no more services or help coming in. We also need to keep up the care of my 89 year old mother in-law. All is good, we are coping. Best wishes to everyone.

22.01.2022 Australians relied on the distinctive qualities of mateship, humour, ingenuity, courage and endurance to get us through. These qualities are known as the Anzac Spirit. This year Anzac day will be a little different , no gatherings at services or marches.... However this morning I along a number of Australians across the country commemorated those who have made sacrifices for our country by going to the end of my driveway at 6am listening to a brief commemorative service. Together even while apart ,we remembered those who served and sacrificed. We lit up the dawn. Lest we forget.

15.01.2022 Hi my name is Wendy Waller I’m the Mayor of the City of Liverpool. We have a population of over 220,000 people. Like most of our residents my family is self isolating, working from home and home schooling. In fact, due to illness, I’ve been working from home since the 4.2.20. Both my husband and myself are taking this situation very seriously, so we keep our kids and us safe during this difficult time. So have most of our residents.... Council is trying to assist local businesses as much as they can by assisting with information about financial entitlements or linking various businesses with other stakeholders. We’ve now celebrated a wedding anniversary and three birthdays while socially isolated. We are using technology to keep in touch with other family members which we are sure other folk are doing as well. Even family members overseas. We are finding home schooling a bit of a challenge. My husband ventures out and does the shopping with a shopping list of course. We are doing OK considering, but it’s understandable people will be experiencing raised anxiety and stress. Unfortunately, some folk, because of their isolation or mental health issues, could be struggling with the current situation and would probably need extra support. We are also ensuring through council there is food for those who are homeless or sleeping rough. It’s important we don’t leave anybody behind. With Easter nearly upon us it will cause us to reflect on our families and communities. Please stay safe

12.01.2022 Safer Community From Home in the Time of COVID - Sera Yilmaz If a world-renowned fortune teller was going to tell me that in 2020 a global disease would require us to be in lockdown, destabilise the economy, result in the loss of thousands of jobs, and require me to work from home, unable to see my boyfriend, I would not have believed it. Although I am happy, safe, healthy, working from home, lucky enough to have some form of stable income, I can’t help but feel somewhat depr...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Cr Joanne McRae, Orange City Councillor update on Covid-19 experience I’m a first term councillor with Orange City Council and we’ve just had this term extended by at least a year. I am the only woman on Council, and with support from ALGWA, I have been encouraging other women to consider standing in September 2020. I feel really sad to see the enthusiasm and hard work of potential councillors and supporters paused. A few weeks ago I noticed how my community was beginning to ...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Polly Makim - Senior Civil Engineer I am Senior Project Officer in the Engineering department of Mosman Municipal Council. I am a woman working in a male dominated industry and am very proud of my profession.... I am the City Vice President on the Executive of ALGWA NSW and am committed to supporting and promoting women in Local Government, especially encouraging women to not only step into male dominated positions on Council, but to be leaders. I have been pleased to take opportunities to share my experiences and be a role model to women in Local Government through being on panels and involved in seminars. Mosman Council services and meetings have moved online due to COVD19. At present, Mosman Council meetings are being webcast. Residents are able to watch the meetings and ask questions over the webcast. Many community facilities have been closed but have adapted with the library offering access to the ecollections and the Mosman Art Gallery is offering a selection of images from Megan Cope's exhibition online: www.mosmanartgallery.org.au In my Engineering Department on Council, construction works continue with social distancing measures in place. Some site inspections are now undertaken via video conference. To facilitate social distancing measures, the NSW Government has eased restrictions under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, that prevent construction work on Sundays and public holidays. Construction workers are now able to work on construction sites seven days a week.

07.01.2022 ALGWA NSW today practiced physically distancing not social distancing. This morning I chaired our bi-monthly meeting via Zoom. Interacting via technology is important to continue our advocacy for women in Local Government.

06.01.2022 This is how we fight the climate crisis. Compassionate AND strong. This was our most popular pic of last week. xx

01.01.2022 CASS COLEMAN LITHGOW CITY COUNCILLOR MEDIA RELEASE... Preserving local jobs must be a priority. It is predicted that the global economy will shrink by 3% this year due to Covid19, Australia by 6.7% could be heading for the worst economy decline since the great depression of the 1930s. The Australian economy is dominated by its service sector which is mostly concentrated in financial services, hospitality, retail, health, human services, information technology and education. Lithgow City Council like many Councils across the state provide essentials services to the wider community, however due to Covid19 the local swimming pool, libraries, playgrounds, golf club and community halls have been closed. Most importantly, regional council employees across NSW are part of the local economic back bone supporting the country towns that they call home. The mortgage, electricity and gas bills are still arriving in the mailbox, groceries still need to be purchased each week for the family households, a living wage is needed. Local Councils cannot access Job Keeper payments for their staff because the Federal Government considers them a State responsibility. I strongly support the deal that was carefully negotiated by the United Services Union, the Splinter Award. It has been approved by 100 of the state’s 128 Councils. Those Councils that opted into the deal will be covered, while the remaining 28 will stay on regular arrangements. It has given those Councils greater flexibility to redeploy workers to different locations and roles and reduce their hours where the pandemic has made employee’s usual tasks impossible. Full time workers who are stood down entirely will be paid $858.20 a week for three months after an initial period of four weeks paid special leave; unfortunately, casuals cannot access the stand down payments. Councils have no excuse to use the current pandemic to terminate staff. Cass Coleman 0429234163
