22.01.2022 Do well trained dogs deserve the right to walk off lead through suburban streets when the law states they must be on lead? ... .. There is nothing more plea...sant than going for a walk with your dog and allowing them to peruse the diversity of smells along the nature strip at their own pace while you enjoy the walk too. ... Seems innocent enough. Especially because at any given time you know your dog is well trained and you can perfectly recall them to heel beside you when necessary. .... If only it was this simple. We have a much greater understanding these days, of why this seemingly harmless act is one of the biggest gripes in the dog owning community. In a nutshell, here’s a few reasons why it’s worth clipping the lead on your dog next time you go for a walk (The article Ryan wrote below explains things in more detail): 1 It’s the law. 2 You will reduce anxiety in the stranger you cross paths with who is nervously walking his/her reactive dog on lead to exercise it. 3 You will reduce the frustration from the stranger you pass who is trying their darndest to train their dog to walk well on lead. A dog is more likely to react to an off lead dog than an on lead dog. 4 Somewhere in your neighbourhood there is someone who suffers terribly from Cynophobia and struggles to leave the house some days for fear of encountering an off lead dog. You will allow them the freedom to walk to the corner shop and buy some bread and milk. 5 You will be putting your dogs safety first. They may be well trained 99% of the time but just like us they have off days and one day something out of the ordinary will tempt them to break away from their normal obedience. ‘COME’ won’t save their life like a lead will. Teaching your dog to walk well on lead may be hard work short term, but the wider community will very much appreciate it. If you are interested in learning more we have a online loose lead walking course over at our online training hub click the link to find out more https://www.tateonlinetraininghub.com/loose-lead-walking-co

20.01.2022 Dog Poisoned by the Diffuser Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terr...or. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better. Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog. I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was. So I took him to emergency vet. It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out. The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing. Please make sure that the essential oils you are burning are not toxic for your pets. Here is a list of essential oils not to use if you have a dog at home Anise (Pimpinella anisum) Birch (Betula) Bitter Almond (Prunus dulcis) Boldo (Peumus boldus) Calamus (Acorus calamus) Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) Cassia (Cassia fistula) Chenopodium (Chenopodium album) Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) Garlic (Allium sativum) Goosefoot (Chenopodium murale) Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) Hyssop (Hyssopus sp. with the exception of Decumbens) Juniper (Juniperus sp. with the exception of Juniper Berry) Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) Mustard (Brassica juncea) Oregano (Origanum vulgare) Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) Red or White Thyme Rue (Ruta graveolens) Santolina (Santolina chamaecyparissus) Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) Savory (Satureja) Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) Terebinth (Pistacia palaestina) Thuja (Thuja occidentalis) Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) Please share this story as it may save someones precious furry family member!
