22.01.2022 LEAK UPDATE - WEDNESDAY 21 OCTOBER Power and Water Corporation is over half way to completing leak checks at Alice Springs home water meters with 3,206 checks completed in the last three days. Day three saw 885 leak checks completed, with 148 suspected leaks discovered.... The average leak size (from 3 days of leak checks) is 936 litres per day, which if left undetected would cost the homeowner $653 per year. In total so far, the volume of suspected water leaking from Alice Springs homes is over 245 million litres per year, equivalent to over one million wheelie bins of wasted water. The largest suspected leak found today was wasting 7,200 litres per day (31 wheelie bins), costing just over $5000 per year. Leak checkers have also been witnessing broken and leaking irrigation equipment that is turned on during the middle of the day when the homeowner may not be home and aware of the leak. Residents are encouraged to check their irrigation systems regularly to help reduce leaks and save water. Since the start of Alice Springs Leak Week on Monday, around 600 water meters could not be accessed. These homeowners have received a flyer in the letterbox about how to conduct their own leak check. To find out how to conduct the 2 Step Leak Test visit www.alicewatersmart.com.au In three days, the total suspected household leaks are enough to fill 112 Alice Springs Aquatic Centres.
