02.01.2022 RBA Announcement It comes as no surprise that the Reserve Bank of Australia has decided to leave the cash rate unchanged. The Reserve Bank of Australia h...as gone 130 months without increasing the cash rate, with the last increase recorded in November 2010. This is the longest the cash rate has gone without the increase not only in Australia but around the world as well. The current rate is likely to remain at 0.1% until at least 2024 or until the RBA is satisfied with inflation and employment targets. Our Financial Services Director Tyson James shared his thoughts on the news. "The board will not increase the cash rate until actual inflation is sustainable within the 2-3 per cent target range and for this to occur, wage growth will have to be higher than it is at the moment," Mr James said. "It was also encouraging to hear that there's been strong growth in employment and a welcome decline in the unemployment rate down to 4.6 per cent. "Having such a low cash rate for the next couple of years means more people will have an opportunity to access low-interest rate options on their mortgage loans."
