11.01.2022 TUESDAY 21st JULY Psalm 119.57, 72, 76-77, 127-130 Lord, I love your commands Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm in the Bible, with 176 verses, but it has an amazin...gly simple theme that runs right through it, almost in every verse. That is, to love doing what God commands. This is the most important of all life's secrets: to live according to God's Word. There is no other way to live. To discover what God's Word is, to find out what is the law from His mouth, is worth much more than silver and gold, more than all the money in the world (v72 NIV). A man is rich according to what he is rather than according to what he has. What he is, is shaped by his ability to live according to what God commands (vs76-77). God's law is our delight because His law does not come from a cold, hard lawmaker who loves to make a lot of rules which we find hard to keep. It does not come from one who will only love us if we obey every single law and is ever ready to punish us if we break his law. Rather, it comes from a God whose love pours out to us all the time. His love is an unfailing love. He promises to love us and He is so faithful that He will never ever break His promises. God can see that although I love to do His will and I want to obey Him and live by His commands, I often fall short of being what He wants me to be and doing what He wants me to do. This does not stop Him loving me because He is so full of compassion - His heart goes out to me all the time. Therefore, we love God's commands more than anything elsemore than the finest of gold. We want to obey what He says because we know He loves us so much. The bond of our love between us and God makes us abhor all that is false. God's will is so fantastic and wonderful. As His Word is unfolded for us it lights up the whole of life for us; even the simplest of us finds it easy to follow Him. PRAYER: Lord God, we love your law because it comes from a heart that loves us so much. Help us to delight in it more than anything else. Amen.
