Today he wrote: "The news on borders in Australia continues to improve with the announcement by Queensland earlier today that it will open its borders up to NSW and Victoria from 1st December. Hopefully all borders will be open by X-mas. Internationally t...he focus has turned to vaccinations and the protocols around travel. Several weeks ago, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce was predicting significant international travel would not re-commence until the latter part of 2021 however yesterday he predicted Qantas would have 50% of its international network up and running by June/July next year. This is great news for all of us. Alan also said that to fly internationally with Qantas it would be mandatory for passengers to have had the vaccine. I am sure most other airlines will do the same. The cruise industry is also developing protocols for their operations and what seems abundantly clear now is that to undertake any sort of international travel outside of Australia people will have to have had two vaccine shots and, in addition, will have had to have had a blood test confirming their immunity to COVID-19 (ie: a check that the vaccine worked) before they get recognition via the electronic chip in their passports that they are cleared for travel. The same protocols will apply for international passengers coming into Australia. That may seem odd to some however I am sure many of us recall travelling with our little yellow vaccine booklet with its stamps and data on our Yellow Fever, Tetanus, Cholera and other vaccine updates. The simple fact that these scenarios are being contemplated and worked on is really a cause for hope that international travel may start to resume at reasonable levels mid next year". See more
