25.01.2022 Child’s Pose This classic yoga pose has psychological benefits as well as physical benefits. To do child’s pose, kneel on the ground, and then bend forward until your face is resting gently on the floor. Reach your arms forward in front of you. This pose is good for stretching the lower back, hips, shoulders and chest. Child’s pose is also relaxing and meditative. We recommend doing child’s pose at the end of a long day, before you go to bed. You can hold this pose for a minute, or longer if you’re comfortable.

24.01.2022 SHOULDER INJURIES There are many things that cause shoulder pain, but did you know that it can commonly come from the spine? While there are a variety of causes for shoulder pain, it is not uncommon for it to be traced back to the spine. This is because shoulder pain can be referred pain or from the shoulder itself.... The nerves in the upper back and neck can become irritated which can then cause referred pain into the shoulders, arms and other areas. Referred pain from may be coming from other areas such as: * Spinal joint restrictions * Neck problems * Mid-back problems * Shoulder blade problems * Organ problems (such as liver and gallbladder) Other causes of shoulder pain originating from around the shoulder include: * Rotator cuff (shoulder muscle and tendon) disorders * Rotator cuff tendinitis or bursitis * Rotator cuff tear * Shoulder Impingements * Frozen shoulder * Calcific tendonitis * Shoulder instabilities * Shoulder dislocations * Labral tears * Shoulder arthritis As each shoulder case is unique and there are many causes of shoulder pain, we perform a thorough examination before we diagnose/identify the cause. 18.01.2022 Hip flexors The hip flexors are the muscles that attach to the front of the hip and are involved in bringing your knee up towards your chest. They stabilise the lumbar spine and pelvis. Hip flexor issues are common due to our modern lifestyles demanding so much time spent sitting and bending forward which can shorten these muscles. People who are most likely to suffer from hip flexor issues are people who: have to sit for long periods of time... people in jobs requiring a lot of bending and twisting runners and cyclists as well as hockey, cricket and tennis players have a shorter leg or are out of alignment through their pelvis One way to stretch your hip flexors: From a kneeling position place the left knee on the floor directly under the left hip, and place the right foot in front of the right hip so that the right knee is directly over the right ankle and the right hip is in a position of 90 degrees. Place both hands gently on the right thigh to help maintain a straight, tall spine. Lean forward into your right hip while keeping your left knee pressed into the ground, do not allow your pelvis to rotate forward To increase the stretch to the left hip flexors, squeeze and contract the glute muscles of your left hip. Hold for 30-45 seconds and repeat 2-5 times per side. ** To increase the intensity of the stretch raise the left arm straight in the air and tilt slightly to the right side and you lean forward into the right hip. 05.01.2022 Jaw tightness - TMJ dysfunction Who doesn’t love a jaw release!? It’s definitely a love-hate relationship when having your jaw release. It can be tender but it feels sooo much more relaxed afterwards! The TMJ (jaw) is the most used joint of the human body. Signs that you may be suffering from TMJ dysfunction include:... muscle tightness around the face and jaw difficulty opening and closing the mouth headaches ear pain neck pain and stiffness vertigo and dizziness jaw clicking or popping when opening difficulty talking and chewing tinnitus (ringing in the ears) The causes of jaw pain may include trauma, whiplash, dental procedures, teeth grinding, arthritis, stress, jaw and neck misalignment, dislocation and muscle tightness. When someone comes in complaining of jaw pain we focus on releasing the muscles around the jaw (masseter, the temporalis, and the pterygoid) as well as the suboccipital muscles (where your neck attaches onto your skull). The best way to release the pterygoid muscles is by using a glove and releasing from inside your mouth (pictured above). Sciatic nerve flossing is a common exercise for nerve sciatic nerve irritation. Perform this exercise by: * Laying on your back and bringing your knee of your affected side to 90 degrees. * Hold your foot flexed while you bend and straighten your knee as much as possible without eliciting pain or other symptoms. * Repeat 15 times slowly and smoothly with no holds.
