21.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW that parent birds do not take water to their young in the nest? Young birds do not start drinking water until they have fledged and have left the n...est with their parents. It is very easy for water given directly to a bird's mouth or beak to go down their airway accidently, and cause aspiration which can be fatal, especially in the case of baby birds who are begging for food. Water going down the airway into the lungs does not necessarily kill instantly, but birds can and do die hours or days later as a result. Please do not give water or food to rescued birds (or any animal) unless discussed with a wildlife carer first, with regards to what may be suitable in the circumstances. Incorrect food can be quite harmful, and trying to feed sick, injured or orphaned birds (any animals) may inadvertently do more harm than good. Wildlife Rescue Fraser Coast
