24.01.2022 Busy weekend crewing for some mates on a tough 100 mile trail running race GNW! It was such an incredible event. Well organised and a wonderful team of volunteers and tough elite runners. One thing i noticed more than anything, on an event like this was the massive importance of footwear and footcare. Blisters being the prominent complaint. The severity and treatment of these can make the difference between a finish or DNF (a no finish!) Preparing for an event like this tak...es massive commitment and training and shear guts, but also great foot care and the appropriate shoes. My advice would be to train on the course, as there is nothing like training time on feet to toughen them up for the event! Correctly fitted appropriate footwear and well trimmed toe nails. Use methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol to toughen up the skin. This also acts as an astringent (stopping excessive sweating and minimizing the effects of sweating and friction) use padding i.e. fleecy web or stockinette and a dressing called second skin. This all helps to prevent friction which is the main cause of blisters. Use this on all problem areas as a prevention, but if a blister should form, prick it with a sterile needle, release the fluid and dress with second skin and fleecy web and secure with hypoallergenic tape. Make sure the padding is generous in size. This could save you from debilitating blisters!! Happy feet happy runner!! ;)) See more
22.01.2022 Podiatry is still considered an Essential Service As of Today, Monday March 23, the APodA can confirm that Australian podiatrists are not required to stop practicing as a part of the services shut down announced by the government overnight. The ApodA in line with the AHPPC recognises the importance of a nationally consistent approach to measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and we encourage podiatrists to consider how they will manage their practice in line with this in ...the days ahead. We will be providing further updates throughout the day as information comes to hand as well as more resources to support podiatrists. #APodA #podiatryau #covid19 #membersupport #australianpodiatry #australia #health #healthpractitioner #podiatry #coronavirus #assistance #resources

19.01.2022 And to close out National Diabetes Week - it's REALLY about time to book in for a foot check. If you are one of the 1 million plus Australians with diabetes, ma...ke sure you book in for an annual foot assessment with your doctor or podiatrist. This will identify if you are one of the 300,000 Australians with risk factors that need more regular care for their feet. OR if you don’t have risk factors, you simply need to make sure you get your feet checked again next year. It’s easy, quick, painless and your feet will thank you for it in the long run! #NDW2019 #itsabouttime #LetsTalkAboutWounds #letspreventamputations #dfaguidesyouthrough #endingavoidableamputations #DFA2019 Diabetes Australia Diabetes Queensland Wounds Australia Australian Podiatry Association Australian Podiatry Association - NSW & ACT Office Australian Podiatry Association (Qld) Inc Australian Podiatry Associations SA WA TAS Advanced Practicing Podiatrists - High Risk Foot Group Podiatry Western Australia RACGP Australian Diabetes Society National Association of Diabetes Centres Wound Innovations
