24.01.2022 I absolutely love getting emails or messages from my patients with reports of improvements but this week has been a record with four pregnancy announcements and a birth. I so love being able to work in this field where I get the rewards of helping people. . Art @harleyandj
23.01.2022 If you've been considering testing your genetics to assess things like MTHFR, COMT and other genes that can influence your nutrition, detoxification, fertility, hormones and more, there are a few avenues you can do this through, one of which is Ancestry.com.au, and they are currently on sale. A great time to jump onto this if it's something you've been thinking about. The time to get results is about 6-8 weeks. On the front end of this site you will see things like lineage, but you can pull your raw data from this and I can help you to understand the implications of the genetic polymorphisms to your health.
23.01.2022 the dark is naught to be afraid of you grew in the dark of your mothers womb seeds grow in the dark of the soil. tomorrow in the southern hemisphere is the winter solstice; the longest night and the shortest day of the year, the coldest and the darkest time. The sun has journeyed it's furthest distance to the North on our horizon (Southern Hemisphere). ... Like a baby is born from the womb, or a seed bursts forth from the soil, from here the days get longer and grow. Many cultures celebrate the rebirth of the sun at this time. The winter soltice is the middle of winter in the meteorlogical calender, but the start of winter on the astronomical calender. Do you take note of the solstice? Tomorrow I plan to appreciate this moment by celebrating the element of fire which is associated with winter, taking time to focus inwards and visit what I plan to focus on for the rest of the year, and to enjoy warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. ~Art -Simon Quaglio : Queen of the Night

23.01.2022 In the midst of a time of ever looming threat of viral infection, it becomes more important than ever to support our immune system. A healthy immune system can make the difference between your ability to fight off common cold more easily or becoming sick every 1-2 months, or experiencing long term consequences from more severe viral infections. Post-viral syndromes are not a new phenomenon, with infections such as Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) being wel...Continue reading
21.01.2022 Forever growing my indoor plant collection. Did you know indoor plants help to detox your house and improve air quality? Plus surrounding yourself with nature reduces stress! One of my fave things is giving them a drink and giving their leaves a little wipe. Like caring for children, only they’re not noisy. Art by @chloesmartprint

19.01.2022 It can get kind of tricky navigating the benefits and cautions of plant medicine. This is because our beautiful plants can be found in many different preparations, all of which vary in their actions, their dosage, their safety and their interactions. It’s not uncommon to see claims of safety for essential oil consumption that are culinary foods. It’s also not uncommon to see claims of harm for consumption of food because a stronger form of extract or essential oil of that pla...Continue reading
18.01.2022 I have another goody on the shop for you, a 1 week meal plan with bonus recipe book and focusing on hormone nourishment. Your diet can have a powerful impact on your hormonal balance, and in this meal plan you have a variety of meal ideas to support the production of ‘good’ hormones and the detoxification of ‘bad’ hormones, providing building blocks for the manufacture of hormones we need and balancing our blood glucose to take the pressure of our often overworked adrenals gl...ands (for those fellow stress heads). Three key factors are included into this meal plan and recipe selection: Balanced blood sugar levels through a low GI and macro-balanced meal plan. Fluctuations in blood sugar levels can disrupt your stress, thyroid and reproductive hormones so eating a low GI diet can assist in achieving balance. Nutrient dense diets provide the building blocks for Happy Hormones. This plan provides meals which are rich in nutrients such as magnesium, B vitamins and zinc for hormone production. Support oestrogen detoxification with foods rich in compounds such as calcium-d-glucarate and fibres that bind to the more harmful forms of oestrogen to assist with it’s eliminiation. Whilst I have designed this with nutritional requirements of people with uteruses in mind, the recipes included are definitely suitable for all sexes.

17.01.2022 PCOS, also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a complex condition that can significantly affect a woman’s quality of life. One of the biggest ways it does this is by impacting on a women’s ability to conceive and maintain a pregnancy, but it can also impact a woman’s self-esteem by making it difficult to lose weight, it causes acne and hair issues, such as too much hair where a woman doesn’t want it to be, and potentially thinning of scalp hair. Of course, there is more ...to it than that, but those are the major things that women report as the issues they’re most upset by. In this article and podcast I will discuss the lack of awareness and poor understanding surrounding PCOS, how it is often misunderstood and why its name has a role in this. I discuss the common, and not so common signs and symptoms of PCOS and talk about the driving factors that can cause PCOS to develop. I talk about how PCOS is often diagnosed and discuss some of the key ways PCOS can be addressed naturally. You can read the article, or listen to it over on the blog.
16.01.2022 Last minute appointment available at Dural tomorrow (Friday) at 12pm. Message me to book this in or book yourself in online :D
16.01.2022 Lockdown doesn't mean you get to miss out on seeing my face. Or more importantly, looking after your health. Naturopathy and remedial massage is classed as an essential service so you are still able to come to your appointments and collect herbs, but if you're rather stay home, that's fine too. If it is possible for you to do so, please consider switching your naturopathic appointment to an online appointment. Herbs and teas can be posted to you, or a contactless collection ...is available. I've always offered online options for naturopathic appointments, or for follow up patients, over the phone. Some of my patients love online consults so much they have always chosen this option even though they live local to the clinic. This option is especially convenient now that we're in lockdown so here's a reminder of how awesome online consults can be: This means: ~ Comfy pants ~ Comfort of your own home ~ Slippers or bare feet ~ No traffic or parking worries ~ Kids can be in the background (given that it's school holidays and I often do online consults from home, this will be the case for me too for some days). ~ We can talk without having to wear masks If you've got a face to face naturopathic consult booked for the next few weeks and want to change it to online or phone consult send me a message and I'll set that up for you. What an online involves: You get sent a link to a video chat that you click at the time of your appointment. I go through all the same questions that I do in a face-to-face appointment. At times I might share my screen with you to discuss test results or explain a diagram/handout. Any herbs that need to be made can be posted to you, or made for you to collect. Any necessary supplements will be posted to you through my online dispensary. Consult payment can then be done via bank transfer or over the phone - it's so easy and convenient!
14.01.2022 On Fridays I’m usually working at my Dural location but on the last Friday of the month I work from home. This usually looks like catching up on emails, writing and recording content for my e-courses, podcast and website, analysing test results in advance of consults, doing some online consults and blending teas and creams. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of marking for Endeavour College,... but having a break from that for the next few days inbetween cohorts, which means I get to do things like watch additional webinars and read. The day goes very quickly! Oh and of course, I can’t forget the beauty of working from home is that I do some housework inbetween as well. I’m taking advantage of the sunshine and doing multiple loads of washing today! #foreverpickingupchildrenstoys
11.01.2022 [Woman 2] flower essence ‘ Mother ’ Take 7 drops under the tongue morning and night or when needed to settle the mind and ease frustrations This flower essence helps to calm the mind and reduce feelings of irritation and impatience. The hero essence in this blend is Bottlebrush, whose essence helps to assist in moving through major life changes and deal with feelings of overwhelm and helps to clear out old energy. It helps with strengthening mother-child bonds, and healing m...other issues. Another beautiful essence in this blend is Tall Yellow Top, which is particularly relevant in these times at it helps with processing feelings of alienation. This flower helps when a sense of connection with family, workplace or community is lost. The blend as a whole is aiming to support positive body image, reducing feelings of worry, inadequacy, impatience and easing that common mother time feeling of being ‘over touched’. Flower essences carry the vibrational imprint of the plant and are helpful for processing emotional imbalances and may assist in conditions associated with emotional upsets. See more

11.01.2022 One of my favourite herbs for calming the nervous system is Passionflower. Isn’t it just devine! Passionflower is classed as a nervine in herbal medicine and is particularly well suited to those with mental chatter, those whose thoughts cycle around and feel fragile. It is cooling in nature, so goes well for those with a bit too much heat.... It’s also very relaxing and sedating (‘hypnotic’ class) so lovely to have before bed to promote sleep, but is gentle enough to have throughout the day. It can be enjoyed as a tea or taken as a tincture or extract from your herbalist/naturopath. gorgeous pic by @chestnutschoolherbs

05.01.2022 There are so many ways you can weave the healing properties of herbs into your day. include fresh herbs into your meals. Culinary herbs have so much healing potential. sip on long infusions of nourishing herbs. So many blend options available, a few classics are Nettle leaf, Chamomile, Rasberry leaf. spend time in your garden. Sit with the plants and think on them. rub herb infused oils onto your skin each day after showers. See my earlier posts on herb infused oils fo...r some guidance on which oil for you. My current favourite is calendula for the dryness winter brings. herbal extracts and tinctures can be a lovely way to incorporate a more tailored preparation. I so love the art of blending herbs. Tonic herbs can be taken long term to rebuild and revitalise. Many other herbs can be taken short term to remedy more specific problems. dried herbs can be blended into potpourri or eye masks Are there other ways you incorporate herbs into your life? Art @chloesmartprint
02.01.2022 An interesting possible change in thyroid testing protocols. At present, if TSH comes back as normal Drs are discouraged to do further testing. However there have been many studies showing that TSH alone is not sufficient to get an accurate understanding of thyroid activity. If you would like to learn more check out my webinar on Understanding Underactive Thyroid which also has a cheat sheet on how to read and interpret your thyroid results (link in comments)... https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/930672#vp_1 See more
02.01.2022 In the latest episode of Guts and Girl Bits podcast, Naturopaths Lisa Costa-Bir and Alison Mitchell talk about thyroid nodules. Thyroid nodules are typically identified via an ultrasound and indicate the presence of growth of abnormal cells within the thyroid gland. Nodules vary in their sizes and impact to your health, and while some may wish to manage this, many people may be told they have a nodule yet can observe no negative impact from it. It can be a diagnosis that br...ings uncertainty and confusion, and so we would like to share information about what thyroid nodules can mean, as well as how to help manage them naturally, if this is something you would like to choose to do.
