We offer obligation free 30 minute trial lesson ($37.50) so they can try out the instrument, meet their teacher and get a feel for playing. 24.01.2022 We had a new student, Sienna, join us yesterday for her first lesson and she bought her Dads beautiful old guitar. It had been in the cupboard for a few years ago so was desperate for new strings. Here is a quick video of the restringing process... We suggest all students change their strings at least twice a year because they perish, rest and fray.... and lose sustain and tone (sound rubbish). Well be running a workshop for teens and adults to show you how to change your own string these school holidays. Let us know if youd be keen to attend and Ill shoot you off the details.

These workshops are for adults who know the basics but would like to learn some new songs and get their mojo back. Week one of the term often has students returning looking like Edward Sizzorhands... not that many of them would even know who he was! It is impossible to play with long nails on the fretting hand so please remind your children (and yourself) to cut nails short before the lesson.... 14.01.2022 This is the face of a very happy surprise ! Its Hollys birthday this weekend and I was fortunate enough to be allowed to participate in the ruse. Her Dad pretended that he forgot to put her guitar in the car and told Holly she would need to borrow one of ours for the lesson.... I showed her the case where the spare guitar was kept and told her to get it out. When she open the case she saw this beauty and gasped. Dad asked if she liked it and she smiled and nodded yes! He then said, Happy Birthday, its yours!. Holy was grinning from ear to ear We had the best lesson. PS: This photo was taken after the lesson... she still has a huge smile! In this tutorial youll learn to play this song with: 1) Beginner Chords (open chords) 2) Advanced Voicings (up the neck) 3) Funk Strumming Pattern Its a simple 4 chord progression for the entire song but it has a funk rhythm which makes it sound very cool and interesting. Give it a go... even if its not usually the type of song youd listen to! The strumming pattern is very common in any style of funk and the different chord voices are transferable to other songs. I always find that I know a song properly after doing the tutorial - no need to look at the chords because of the way you teach the progressions." Martine Bantick (Ukulele Club Member) Comprehensive video lesson now available inside Ukulele Club. ... This is a staple in any jazz repertoire and has been recorded over 60 times since 1931 by all the jazz greats. It is definitely NOT a beginner tune but is a wonderful introduction into the world of jazz and all the bizarre sounding chord names that accompany the style. Please DONT be overwhelmed when you see the chord sheet. There are a lot of chords on there BUT I show you how to remember them easily by learning the progression. This is a song youll chip away at for a while. Dont try to learn it all in one sitting. As a learning tool its awesome. The progressions in this song are repeated in many other jazz tunes, so once you know them, other songs will be much easier to play. 04.01.2022 Learn to play "Accidentally In Love" by Counting Crows on Ukulele! New tutorial is waiting for you inside Ukulele Club. Join the fun and watch this and many more tutorials here >> https://www.alisonglewguitarschool.com/ukulele-club You may remember hearing "Accidentally in Love" in the animated movie, Shrek 2, back in 2004.... The song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song and Counting Crows also performed the song at the ceremony but unfortunately did not win the award. It is a great "sing around the campfire" song or one to whip out at parties because it is very recognisable. It uses simple chords and voicings and can be played with a straight four beat strumming patter (down and up) or an island strum. I show a few different ways to spice up the strumming (with some syncopation, rolls, chucks and staccato strums) but please dont let that confuse what is otherwise a simple tune. Remember you can just strum down and up until you know the chords and the progression, then move towards more interesting rhythm patterns. Enjoy! Alison (Ukulele Club)

It features a wide variety of genres; pop vocals, dance beats and a Latin infused chord progression on guitar (which transposes well to ukulele). In this tutorial youll learn how to finger-pick the looped, 4 chord progression which is the main "bread and butter" of the track. This is an awesome exercise in itself! Its a great tune to practice a flamenco/Latin style of picking where we arpeggiate the chords fast (almost running the notes together) and use short, sharp, staccato plucks. Enjoy!
