25.01.2022 I'm back to work today. After the last few weeks watching fires threaten people and places I love, it feels strange to be back at work. And I ask myself - should I be doing something else to help? I look at the tasks on my list for today:... - coordinate team of volunteers for Beechworth Food Co-Op so that we can offer food, community and a local path to market - coordinate wine research briefings for Wines of the King Valley members affected by bushfire - work on the tourism effort to bring visitors back to our wine regions and I see a common theme - bringing people together. I think it's important. So, I'm here, doing this work, and contributing the best way I know how to this beautiful part of the world.
25.01.2022 In marketing the food, wine and tourism offers of North East Victoria, I am very aware of the systemic issues that affect our industries. I am pleased to see the activities our wine growers and producers recognised in Federal parliament through representation by the North East Wine Zone to our member, Helen Haines MP. https://www.helenhaines.org//wine-sector-needs-support-to-

24.01.2022 Looking back, the common factor is honesty. Theres a really important lesson for us to take away from what resonated with this foodie: have courage to create something different, and youll carve a place for yourself in the hearts and minds of your customers. https://www.smh.com.au//the-five-restaurants-that-changed-
24.01.2022 Oh hey, Beechworth Photographers! This photo that I directed and you shot - where I called on some lovely friends to be talent - just made it to the cover of Gourmet Traveller WINE! This is the Pop and Fizz Prosecco and Food Pairing experience at Pizzini Wines.
23.01.2022 Strange times for us all - you know it. Its strange for me, my team, and even more so for our clients in food, wine and tourism. But were not going to let an opportunity pass us by. Whilst we have less marketing and event management work to do right now, were investing in ourselves and our services. Ive just signed Courtney and myself up to the Australian Writers Centre copywriting course. Coming out of COVID, well be even sharper at writing the EDMs, website copy, br...ochures, media releases and SEO content that will make a difference to your business. Were both looking forward to it. I do like a sharp pencil!

22.01.2022 I am delighted to have helped Sally of Taste Trekkers launch her new business, Food Direct. Sal is a bundle of energy and entrepreneurial ideas, she’s incredible. I came along to support her, by building a simple website shop. The brief was to get it done quickly and cheaply. I insisted on some great SEO, so that new customers would find Sal’s products, and a great user experience, so that they would buy up and come back often. ... We pulled this off in under two weeks. Have a try!
22.01.2022 2020: the year that changed the way that we communicate about wine. Thats the premise of this upcoming webinar with Wine Communicators of Australia Inc. Have you observed or instituted a change in how you communicate? It feels to me like the trends identified - loving the local, identifying provenance, meeting the need for both authenticity and digital connection - have been a long time coming. Perhaps COVID has just kicked us into gear of doing things differently. If you... check out the panel session (free for members, $10 for non-members) let me know, so that we can have a god chat! https://winecommunicators.com.au//vic-qa-panel-series-win/
22.01.2022 Weve just received printed copies of the magazine we produce for Wines of the King Valley, salute! Keep an eye out in your local cafe, hotel or cellar door, and settle in for a good read. Or, if you arent lucky enough to live in or visit this beautiful region, read online here - and come visit soon! ... http://www.winesofthekingvalley.com.au/news-stories/
22.01.2022 From one of my very favourite restaurants in the world, in Melbourne. Places like this exist to serve people. I share their joy, knowing that they’ll be back at it soon. Bravo, Victoria. Salute!
21.01.2022 Todays spellcheck: I was writing about pouring a glass of Pinot and poring over recipe books - both delightful things to do with ones day! https://www.lexico.com/en/grammar/pour-or-pore
21.01.2022 Should you respond to TripAdvisor comments? Yes, I advise that you do. It shows readers that you are looking after your business, checking in to see that visitors are happy, and that you care about them. Theres no need to respond to every review - just respond to those where you can connect with the reviewer. A really great move, if you can, is to call out the work of the staff members who delivered an outstanding experience. ... What I do not advise is responding only to negative reviews. Being defensive on social media is not a good look. And its not fair that only squeaky wheels get attention - it makes the good customers feel that they wont get the same amount of attention. By all means, address any factual errors, but if it is a matter of opinion just remind yourself that not everyone can be as enlightened as you, and move on If youve got a tricky TripAdvisor situation, post it in the comments, and Ill let you know what I would recommend.
21.01.2022 I was supposed to be styling the shoot, not doing the salsa...! Thanks for capturing this shot of me at work, Pen, and to all the lovely people who were in the pics, in front of the lens and behind the scenes.
21.01.2022 Story of a great woman from Beechworth, very apt today.
20.01.2022 I read this phrase in a Regional Partnership document today - our regional leaders identified that in order to get the slice of visitors that we deserve in Victorias High Country, we need to be visitor-obsessed. Eureka! I wholeheartedly agree - and I feel like this is a great way to describe how I work. To be obsessed, we have to immerse ourselves in how our potential visitors think and feel, and what they expect. We need to know whats important to them, and we need to intuit what will surprise and delight them. I think it can only be done by having both a personal and professional understanding of your ideal customer. When was the last time you had a conversation with the object of your obsession?
19.01.2022 Isn’t this beautiful? So good to see spirits up in Melbourne.
17.01.2022 I mentioned a little while ago that Courtney and I have used iso-time for some extra professional development, undertaking a copywriting course. Last week we focused on writing for SEO - search engine optimisation - the dark art that gets your website found on Google and gets better click-through from your ideal customer. Shes going to kill me, but Im really proud of her, so Im sharing the feedback that the instructor gave for Courtneys last assignment. ...
17.01.2022 For those who share my passions for contemporary art and regenerative agriculture - this looks great! 15.01.2022 How exciting!! The very clever Ann has opened Tu Vietnamese Street Food in Myrtleford - I will be getting down there ASAP! Ann and I worked together on Eat Asian Food Festival last year, and it has proved that running an event can be a great way to test the market and develop a following before you launch into bigger business decisions. ... 15.01.2022 View from my meeting venue today - locals will recognise this one! Conversation from the table next door: Its just so lovely up here. Theres bike trails everywhere, and the food is really great. The people are so friendly - they take the time to talk to you! Theyre lucky to live the way they do.... Yes, yes we are.
14.01.2022 This applies not just to restaurants, but to many businesses: have that one thing that you are known for. It makes it so much easier for your customers to take an interest, and to recommend you, too. It sets up your brand and your customer experience. When determining your signature offering, make sure it is:... - Desirable to your ideal customer - Profitable - Sustainable - can you do it over and over again? and ensure your team is well-trained to upsell around it, adding on a little something else in the sale.
14.01.2022 Rainy day reading.

13.01.2022 Courtney and I took a little drive down to this gorgeous spot in Beechworth yesterday. Sun was shining, birds were chirping and the ideas were flowing. What will we build here? It will be a one-off, and lots of fun! Stay tuned.
13.01.2022 When you're up all night with ideas, THIS is necessary to make them happen the next day.
13.01.2022 Its tradition in my house to start Christmas Day with panettone, local cherries and King Valley Prosecco. This year, were swapping Prosecco for Bird In Hand Winery Adelaide Hills Sparkling Pinot Noir. I know my friends in the valley will understand - every family involved in the wine industry feels for those who have lost so much. https://7news.com.au//adelaide-hills-wineries-devastated-b
11.01.2022 Loneliness, hope, uncertainty, longing for a different time: we are feeling it all. Melbourne, my thoughts are with you.
11.01.2022 Behind the scenes, and in front, on todays shoot. Styling by me - I dont envy the guy with the camera on his head!
11.01.2022 Hey, accommodation owners, do you know how to get featured in publications like this? Theres three easy things you must do... Congrats to Jessie's Creek Cottage, who have nailed it!
09.01.2022 When you’re in the depths of crisis, coming up with a creative solution can feel impossible. It’s exhausting, you have way too many other worries and, in 2020, the crisis is not even your fault! So, perhaps the last thing you want to see is the success story of someone who managed their way out of crisis. Or, perhaps, you can look at these guys and think, ‘wow, I’m going to steal a bit of their thinking!’ Here’s a tip: think about what the lolly shop was really selling. It wasn’t sugar-based treats...
09.01.2022 Who could you support this Christmas? Not me - goodness, Im not organised enough to have Christmas packages sorted! But could you support a local trader, artist or entrepreneur? Maybe a local kid who is just learning how to make money and take control of their future?
08.01.2022 Restaurants are so important to the kind of life I want to live. Im glad that this effort is looking after them.

08.01.2022 Just remembering a lovely job we did last December. This was a lot of fun - creating a birthday party and a cocktail party, but no one got to eat the food! https://alisonlloydmarketing.com.au/aspirational-styling-f/
05.01.2022 You know the feeling? Were actually doing ok - our network of creative collaborators has pulled together and we are finding new opportunities, which is super-exciting. Onwards and upwards - it might be a different mountain we climb this year, but we will get there!
