17.01.2022 Time for a new home loan?

13.01.2022 The final cash rate of 2018 has been announced by the Reserve Bank of Australia. RBA governor Philip Lowe announced the rate would be remaining at 1.5%. As there is no cash rate meeting in January, this means the rate will have remained the same for at least 29 months in a row.... Experts and analysts were expecting the decision, citing low unemployment and wage growth. While many over the last few months have begun predicting the rate might stay the same until 2020, the shadow board of the RBA has said there is an increasing need for a hike in the next six months.

11.01.2022 Following mounting expectation of a further cash rate cut after June’s reduction of 25 basis points, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has just announced its July decision. The RBA has again reduced the official cash rate by 25bps, resulting in a new record low of 1%. According to Canstar group executive of financial services, Steve Mickenbecker, It would not be surprising to see banks only partially pass on the next cut to borrowers.... But, I wouldn't expect any lenders to make an announcement like this inside the ten-minute mark, as we saw after the June cash rate cut was announced, he added. Canstar data shows that only three-quarters of lenders reduced their variable rates following last month’s RBA cut, with the average reduction in variable rate home loans being 22bps. It's getting tough for the banks. Many, including the majors, have savings account base rates of only 0.30%. Fully passing on a 0.25% cash rate will see further pressure on these savings rates and the zero mark is not so far off, explained Mickenbecker. From Australian Broker

05.01.2022 BY now you have all heard about the various finding and recommendations from the Royal Commission. While the big banks have been found been heavily criticized for really poor practice and in some circumstances, illegal practices ( eg charging fees to customers who have died etc), they have been given back the power when it comes to residential loans. By taking away the commission that mortgage broker...s receive on settlement by the bank, and potentially asking the client to pay in the future for service, means the industry will possibly die. This will ... 1. reduce and damage competition in lending as smaller banks will disappear. 2. Interest rates will increase for consumers 3. Options ( of lenders and niche products) will reduce for consumers 4. The personalized service of a mortgage broker will disappear as clients will not wish to pay a fee for service to brokers when they can go to a bank for a loan and NOT be charged. One has to ask where the logic is in all of this? Why have the big banks been rewarded and handed bank the power? Hopefully, the Industry bodies will be able to rally and talk sense to the powers that be. In the meantime, should you or any of your friends need assistance, please feel free to call contact me.
