23.01.2022 WE WON’T LEAD YOU DOWN THE GARDEN PATH... Unless, of course, that’s what you hired us to do. We understand that it can be daunting getting someone to do work around your home. That’s why we always endeavour to give simple, upfront advice that is easy to understand, and if we can’t do the job, we’ll tell you that too. Or at least install one for her, along with a little reshaping of the area to remove some low spots, improve drainage and generally make it an easier place to get around. Ben was able to make use of some old materials on site and repurpose them, saving the client money and achieving all of her objectives. 20.01.2022 IT’S A DOG’S LIFE... We all want the best for our pets, but some animals definitely have it better than others. If this is a dog’s life, then put a collar on me and call me Fluffy. Our clients were eager to upgrade their dog run to accomodate their growing number of four-legged friends, but didn’t want to waste their weekends chipping away at a project. They wanted it done once, done properly and done quickly. They needed a Little Extra Muscle. ... Using existing posts, Ben installed stay assemblies to prevent the posts lifting in the wet ground, and ran new wire and animal netting. The dog house was relocated from a temporary pen, and Ben was able to set it on supports and install a small shade sail in preparation for the coming Summer. It wasn’t all about the animals though. Since every country homestead needs a nice set of gates, Ben made a matching set of three. Two for the front porch and one for the rear stairs. And speaking of stairs, there’s no point having a double-wide gate if you couldn’t use them so Ben built a new set of full width stairs, complete with handrails. 18.01.2022 OUT WITH THE OLD, AND IN WITH THE NEW... Nothing gives an old house a swift kick into the 21st Century like some new cladding and a fresh coat of paint. Since the day they bought their house, replacing the cladding on the back wall was No. 1 on the list of ‘Must-Do’s for these clients. The former-owners had given it a go, but it was a DIY-Reno-Gone-Tragic, it didn’t match the rest of the house, and it’s best days (if there were any) were behind it. Unfortunately, like most us..., years go by, priorities shift, and things that were supposed to be done get pushed to the side. That’s when you need a Little Extra Muscle. Ben measured up and sourced the materials needed, removed the existing cladding, repaired the wall wrap, and assisted with hanging the new cladding, giving the clients the cosy, cottage look they were after and finally tying together the outside of their home. 05.01.2022 WHEN THE WORLD GIVES YOU LEMONS... Sometimes no matter what you do, things just don't go the way you hope. But that isn't always a bad thing... You just need a Little Extra Muscle. Our client has big plans for a full renovation and extension of their home, but first they needed to fix some issues with a rather tired, patchworked section of roof. With the recent rain, it was pretty obvious it was no longer doing the job and was causing significant damage to the inside of the h...ouse. Ben was asked to install new roof sheets, reseal the area with new sarking, and assist with replacing the water-damaged gyprock. Easy peasy... The roof was repaired as planned and once water tight, work could begin inside. Unfortunately once the plasterboard was removed, it became obvious the water damage was far more extensive than originally anticipated. The majority of the framing had been done in H3 treated external-grade timber and had held up to the moisture well, however there was little of the untreated framing pine left. For the walls to remain properly supported going forward, the studs would have to be cut back to solid timber and the bottom wall plates replaced. So where's the lemonade in this story you ask? Well since the wall had to be propped up to replace the wall plates and the studs were getting cut back anyway, why not just install a lintel and remove the problem completely by opening up the access through the living area outside. With all of the damaged framing removed, Ben and the enthusiastic renovators were able to get back on track hanging the new gyprock ready for sanding and painting.
