25.01.2022 A Little Mountain Wisdom by Peter G. James Sinclair Mountain rain. Sitting here in my home I hear the incessant sound of the plummeting droplets on my corrugated iron roof. I love that noise. Musical in its intent, the sound is pleasantly comforting at night as one lays in bed before being overcome by sleep. But the day is still young and I watch as the invisible drops play with the leaves of the foliage directly in front of me. Invisible hands flicking the individual pieces ...of foliage. Pot plants have been moved from their undercover position to benefit from the outside shower as they drink the delectable vintage that drops from the sky. Rivers of water flood down the side of the smooth barked gum trees, and yet inside I sit now in front of a raging fire to compete against the cool air that has accompanied this refreshing fall. Cleansing. Drinking. The sound of water tanks filling. The sense of the newly planted Avocado tree with droplets forming on its new leaves, the mulberry tree that is bending over from the weight of its fruity offering and fruit trees drinking in the sustenance supplied by the wet refreshment. As my wife mentioned, whenever we lived in the city and gardens were watered with what was supplied through the town water supply the plants never seemed to flourish, and yet here in the mountain it is as if they spring out of the ground - nurtured and nourished by only rain water.
