15.01.2022 What is Craniosacral Therapy? This is a gentle form of hands on therapy that focuses on the evaluation and treatment of the craniosacral system, which consists of the cranium (head), spine, sacrum and the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord. It requires specialised training to learn how to feel the cranial rhythms and effect therapeutic changes to the craniosacral system. Craniosacral therapy is very effective in treating disorders of the head includi...ng, vertigo, dizziness, visual disturbance, migraine headache and sleep apnoea. Craniosacral therapy is also a very beneficial tool for complementing treatment of the spine and pelvis. This is one of many techniques we use at Alive Physio & Wellness. Ask us how we can help you.

13.01.2022 Today marks the start of National Pain Week. Pain is a normal human experience. Its purpose is one of protection. However, often when pain becomes chronic, it is not a signal of ongoing tissue damage requiring protection. This is a great read!

13.01.2022 This week is the migraine and headache awareness week. Migraine and headache is a common distressing disorder. It is a result of specific changes within the brain. It causes severe head pain that is often accompanied by sensitivity to light, sound, or smells. Common symptoms include: - Eye pain - Sensitivity to light or sound... - Nausea - Vomiting - Severe pain, often only on one side of the head, that some individuals describe as "pounding" or throbbing. Studies have shown that migraines and headaches affect over 3 million Australians. It is thought that more women suffer migraine than men due to hormonal factors. Much can be done about migraines and headaches. Treatment is not just a matter of taking a tablet but a case of each individual developing a migraine management plan that will probably involve lifestyle modifications, medication and other therapies. Physiotherapy is an extremely effective treatment for migraines and headaches. By carefully restoring proper movement to the spinal joints of the neck, your physio is able to significantly reduce the presence of nerve irritation and muscle tension helping to alleviate the cause of your headaches and migraines.

11.01.2022 What is Visceral Manipulation? It is a Technique which refers to releasing restrictions of the internal organs and their surrounding tissue. As we move about our day, our internal organs should move with us; however they can become restricted and stuck. They then become a fixed point of tension which causes further restriction and irritation, leading to referral of pain to the musculoskeletal system. Visceral manipulation uses soft manual techniques to improve mobility and fu...nctioning of the organ. This can decrease pain and increase range of movement of the musculoskeletal system. It can also have other widespread affects such as reducing the severity of: Headaches Incontinence Low Back Pain Nad has extensive training in this powerful technique from the worlds leading experts.
