23.01.2022 Once you leave the bitumen at Borroloola the surface deteriorates rapidly. Regular stopping and checking is the only way to avoid major issues. 2.5 hrs for 70 ks!! Either that or risk damage to your gear.

23.01.2022 According to Bill Grealy in Darwin the wet has started already. Looks like we made it out of Manangoora with about 8 days spare! Phew!

23.01.2022 GREAT NEWS !!! Great News ALIVE BAIT BUDDY is now on eBay! This is how to view it. Google Hooked online and go to their website home page Select Accessories, then live bait kits and aerators and there it is. Share and like to spread the good word

22.01.2022 IT WAS always going to be important to get the live bait. so finding it and throwing the net are important skills. Look for a sandy bank with some deeper pools nearby, then learn to look for the signs of mullet rippling the surface

22.01.2022 Tip of the day for Bait Buddy owners: Be careful with battery polarity. Reversing the polarity can do awful things to electronics!!

22.01.2022 Alive Bait Buddy is about to get another good workout in the Gulf of Carpentaria in the next few weeks. As we head 3000 km to Borroloola and beyond to the Wearyan river we'll be gearing up for a last hit on the Barra before the wet sets in. Or Jew . Importantly we will make ourselves familiar with NT laws and requirements and strictly adhere. To catch fish we must have live bait and we've got to be able to keep it alive. That's where the bait Buddy excels. Stay tuned - hope to get some good vids?..

20.01.2022 Well it's been very quiet lately, mainly because I've been trying to get a website working, and not making much of a go of it. They said it was easy.....haha, but I have got it nearly there (I think) I wondered if anyone on our site could help me get it finished . Then I could link it to Facebook . Happy to pay if someone can help. Cheers Dave

19.01.2022 The live bait is keeping us busy

19.01.2022 So I guess we can sum up the Alive Bait Buddy this way. It passed all tests up north with flying colours. Up to 40 deg out in the sun, running all day and night on a small boat battery, heaps of air bubble, and good live bait that worked a treat for us. Buuuut here's the bonus!! It's ideal for keeping worms fresh too -- and yabbies ! Pretty important with the warm summer months on our doorstep. Are we done yet? No we're not. You can keep your fish alive too. No more blood in the boat, or fish bags over the side. Keep your fish fresh. And if you are into catch and release this is for you. Save only your best fish. Share this with someone who may be interested, and pick up your own bait buddy at Jacobs Well bait shop

18.01.2022 What a weekend to remember I've just had. BOTH our sons were free to come fishing, and we all enjoyed a great couple of days together. Excellent!! So Friday arvo we ducked out to get some bait for an early start Saturday. Managed to find some prawns and - you guessed it - straight into the Bait Buddy they went. Well we did change the water last thing Friday night, but otherwise left them in a large bucket (with lid) and the bait buddy on. Fast forward to Saturday and a few w...ere dead, and a few shells floating, but the vast majority were not only alive but jumping out of the bucket and generally in fine shape. I'd love to be able to report we caught that big Jew but alas that wasn't to be. We did get some big bream, and a couple of the biggest knot eels ever recorded (joking) . And at the end of the day we still had live prawns. Another great outing for the BAIT BUDDY( on sale now at Hookedonline on EBay ) See more

18.01.2022 Our fame is slowly spreading. This week we shipped a Bait Buddy to New Zealand. With all that coastline and abundance of seafood, kiwis may well be among the best fishers in the world.......tight lines down there in Wellington Graeme!!!

17.01.2022 Here's the diamond scale mullet

15.01.2022 Yes Greg we did get some crabs

14.01.2022 Off to lake Maraboon at Emerald this week, chasing a few redclaw - and taking in the baptism of two of our great grand children at Rockhampton. No use for the Bait Buddy there, --- BUUUTTT later in September I'm off to the Gulf, up Boorooloola way, for another shot at the Barra . That is a good test for the Bait Buddy and frankly I wouldn't go there without one. If you use live bait it keeps it alive without effort, in all sorts of conditions. Hope to get some good videos and keep you posted

14.01.2022 Here's the diamond scale mullet

14.01.2022 Bait Buddys now available at Bayside Bait and Tackle Vic Point. Call in and talk to Scott for some helpful advice

13.01.2022 If you have a comment or query on Alive Bait Buddy or anything else that's relevant, please feel free to post. Like to hear from you!!

12.01.2022 One of Alive Bait Buddy's good clients called to buy his third Bait Buddy for family and friends. Twisted my arm a bit too I might add. But he added another string to the bow of a mighty versatile fishing tool. You see he goes out west a bit, and often likes to take a crab or two out to his hosts. This is relatively easy with mud crabs, they'll stay alive with care for several days. But what about sandies? Don't last long out of the water do they. Bring in the Bait Buddy, get yourself a lidded bucket with salt water, turn it on and head for the hills. Those sand crabs were jumping out of the bucket two days later, he told me. Keeps alive poddies, fish, worms, prawns, and sand crabs too!. Get yours for Xmas. hookedonline.com.au

11.01.2022 What is different about the Bait Buddy is it runs off your boat battery. So theres no more messing about with D cells and flat batteries. It is not a toy and will do a big job. Your 12volt boat battery powers an inverter which changes that to 240v ac and this runs a standard home fish tank air pump designed to run 24/7. Because it uses so little current you can leave it running all night. ALIVE BAIT BUDDY Specifications... Input 12vDC Inverter Output 240VAC max 150watts Airflow 3.5 to 5.0 LPM Load Pump 2.5 to 5.0watt Inverter, led, Some, not measureable Battery load Less than 0.5 amp/hr

10.01.2022 A couple of our Bait Buddies have come back recently with a problem and in both cases the failure has been in the switch. We did have a bad batch of switches so if you have a problem let us know and we will gladly swap your switch to a better quality one. All other components continue to give excellent service, and the good news is, we will soon be on EBay

10.01.2022 Another great fishing trip

09.01.2022 In a previous post I mentioned the several varieties of mullet and that they have different take rules. I will try to sort this out in a practical way so that we can readily return those not legal quickly back to their environment. I'm talking about Qld laws; it is different in NSW and other states. There are 3 main types and these are Sand mullet, Sea mullet and Diamond scale mullet. Sand mullet can be taken in any size or quantity. Readily identified by the gold spot at ba...se of pectoral fin. Look for GOLD. Gold is GOOD. Tail is forked Sea mullet must be minimum 30 cms and limit of 20 Diamond scale mullet likewise 30 cams limit 20 Sea mullet are very streamlined head is flattened, tail is forked. No gold Diamond scale are quite a different shape, bigger scales and square tail. No gold. Here's a photo of each. I hope it helps. See more

08.01.2022 This is some of the catch from the recent trip to the Gulf. The bait buddy played a significant role in our success, and worked wonderfully despite the tough conditions. With the festive season fast approaching maybe the bait buddy is the gift you've been looking for. Go ahead give Dave a call. Maybe you can twist his arm a bit..........

07.01.2022 It was good (in A way) to have one of the earlier Bait Buddies come back for repairs the other day. Gave me a chance to assess the ravages of time and weather, consider any changes necessary, and learn all we can so that we can make the Bait Buddy the best it can possibly be. We got a fairly pleasant surprise. This was the eleventh BB made and despite a fairly robust life, everything was in pretty good shape. Damage was confined to the switch and to tell the truth we have had a few of these let us down. Well it is a moving part. New switch and away it goes. Cost? A fillet of Jew!

07.01.2022 Well I needed the bait buddy again the other day, well twice really. Once when out with a friend chasing flathead and we saw a nice school of poddy mullet. Got the net over about 50 and straight into the bucket with aerator going. (There,s room for a bait buddy in even the smallest of tinnies, but you must fix it to something so it's firm and ready to use) I should mention we did a quick check for species and confirmed they were sand mullet with the gold spot. Turned on the ...bait buddy and we KNOW they'll be ok till we need them. But before we got to the mullet I fell a...over head in the mud chasing yabbies. Think I'm getting too old for yabbying - and a $65 bill at the mobile phone doctor is a painful reminder.... The other time I needed it was up at Pelican Banks getting a few winter whiting, and you know how there,s always the odd small one in the group. There's no size limit on diver whiting so you can keep the small ones for bait, and they are excellent for a variety of fish. So .. On your way back from the whiting ground, courtesy of the Bait Buddy you can try a livie at the snapper hole, or even the Jew hole. I've been chasing the whiting in Sandy Straight this week out of Boonooroo some nice size and a few big roes turning up. In the accompanying picture you'll see the shroud I've made for my GPS/sounder. Metal doesn't work because of the GPS aerial so I have used pvc piping and heated it to mould, adding an over centre ss latch. Stops the glare and protects from spray See more

06.01.2022 Things to remember about the Alive Bait Buddy; it's an aerator, so it gives your bait OXYGEN or more correctly AIR. But it gives them plenty because it has a 240v aerator, not a toy. It runs off your boat battery, but uses little current so can easily run all night. It works on prawns, yabbies, poddies , whiting indeed all live bait, and can be easily removed from the boat for security purposes. Need one? Checkout hookedonline.com.au

05.01.2022 Gearing up now for the next (last?)trip to the gulf. But over the eastern side this time north of Karumba, to the Smithburne river. That will be different, not too heavily fished I hope, and of course the bait buddy will be centre stage. Boning up on fishing regs so that we get it right - some differences to NT. Hope to bring you some good action videos and not too many ugly mug shots haha

05.01.2022 One of the buyers of Alive Bait Buddy last week is a very keen whiting man. Summer and Winter he hunts the whiting and he gets his share I might add. Uses mainly yabbies. Bit of a problem with the tide sometimes, good digging time is not necessarily the best fishing time. Last week he was digging Sunday, fishing Monday. But how do you keep the little fellas alive ? That's exactly what Bait Buddy is good at. Run it all night, it'll do the job. Battery ok, yabbies ready to go. Available eBay soon

05.01.2022 So can we keep all the poddy mullet we catch? Well in NSW you can keep any species up to a totalof 20 (under 150mm) but in Qld only sand mullet can be kept for bait. Not diamond scale or Sea mullet. Differentiation of the species is not easy b ut we will try to clarify this point in another post

04.01.2022 I suppose you could call this the nerve centre of my tinnie. There's the fuse box with switches (incl main) in spray proof box. Then your choice of GPS Sounder. I like the Raymarine dragonfly 4, and of course the Alive Bait Buddy. All together close to battery. Now let's go get a fish. Well you wouldn't be reading this far if you didn't appreciate the value of live bait. But how do we get it. One way is to jig for it. Get yourself a set of jig hooks, find a bait gathering area with slack water and jig 'em up. Here's today's result, loved that live herring. In another post I'll go a bit deeper into jigging techniques, cheers for now

04.01.2022 Had a great day today. Whiting fishing with Kurt , from Team Mad Mullet. And road testing the Alive Bait Buddy at the same time. I had previously given Kurt his own Bait Buddy to try out, and comment on if and as he thought fit. No conditions. We managed to get close to our limit of whiting, and all of those we put in the bait tank were still alive at end of day. If you don't already watch the TMMF videos you should get on board. I'll make sure to share this episode on this page. Hope everybody had a good weekend, weather today turned out fantastic

04.01.2022 This clip highlights the importance of fixing t he Bait Buddy firmly in your boat

04.01.2022 This is the last of the footage from our recent gulf trip. Apologies for some of the amateurish video, but we do our best in hard conditions, and maybe there is something there for those who can't make it up themselves. Important message is that live bait is the key to good catches, especially Barra; and that the Bait Buddy is the best live bait keeper. Can't think of a better Xmas present can you? Only $100 go to hooked online.com.au and ensure you receive yours before Xmas
