25.01.2022 Took me a little while to get around to this announcement however I am very pleased to announce the birth of four superb little doves born to the beautiful mink Ava and ever handsome silver man Bolt As you can see they have grown quite a lot since birth late November and are frowning into exceptional little babies!! 23.01.2022 As youre all aware, the current bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales have been devastating farms, communities, park lands and entire townships. As a primary producer who produces food and fibre for the country I find this particularly crushing and can only imagine what it would be like to have to leave our stock and land behind hoping for the beat. We thankfully are not near the area featured in this video but we do have out of control fires in our area (about 20km away...). The CFA do an amazing and selfless job protecting peoples lives, animals, structures and land while putting their own safety on the line. Please watch this video to get a feel of what its like on the frontline and if you can donate to help support the people who need it the most. 23.01.2022 So Cat Lovers is all done for 2019 and what an amazing time we had!!! I dont think Ive laughed so hard or gotten to enjoy so many different peoples company for a long time!!! Firstly, to the brilliant Claire, Charlottle and Tayla my amazing friends and helpers I couldnt have done it without you!!! These ladies worked tirelessly with me, the cats and selling all our bespoke items! Just wait til next year girls our stand is going to get even bigger (and it needs to be!)!!! ... Little Dude and I got to hang with Mr Bondi vet himself Dr Chris Brown (watch this space ) and we got to meet so many new and old friends from the Alkala family!! I so very much hope that everyone enjoyed the Alkala team as much as we enjoyed being there! My only regret is that we were too busy to get more photos!!!! To my darling Floki, Lux, Little Dude, Zoe & Bolt, you guys are superstars and i am so very proud of each of you!!! 13.01.2022 The stork has been very busy here @alkalabengals this weekend!! 3am Saturday Nyx woke me up by running her teeth up & down my arm ( Ouch! ) to let me know her babies were coming. Lux chose a much more civilised time to present her babies starting 11pm Sunday & all done by 2am Monday morning. Nyx & Lux have settled beautifully with their little ones both having 4 each. Lots of colour variation over the litters with brown, lynx, charcoal & silver babies all making an appearance! 09.01.2022 My 3 little doves left with their new families last week Theyve met their four legged siblings, taken prime position on top of the towers and made everyone who meets them smile. Alkala Lola joined her big brother Nas (Alkala valdamar) and he has not left her side since she arrived!! Nas and Lola share Floki as their father and have made an instant connection!!! Alkala Siggy has joined an exciting breeding program in QLD, and Alkala Chilli Little Tacker has ruled the roost... since the moment he step foot in his new home A big thank to Shane & Shaun from Departure Pets for their skills in getting Siggy to QLD! Unfortunately the current climate is still reaping a little havoc with flights and transport. Although we had flights cancelled, Shane had more options ready for us instantly and so much more affordable then other companies! Thanks DEPARTURE PETS!!! 09.01.2022 So Ive been asked this question tonight Im varying degrees and just want to clear it up for anyone who is concerned about the use of the word PELT. If you have any other questions regarding the use of the word pelt or anything else Bengal related please dont hesitate to ask politely The definition of pelt is the skin of an animal with the fur still on. Because the definition of pelt includes the skin, all animals that are covered with fur or hair have them.... "Bengals do not have fur but more of a pelt coat; this is a lovely soft coat that came from their wild ancestors. At around seven weeks the kittens will begin to get what is called the fuzzies, this is something else that is passed down from their ancestors providing them with a camouflage in the wild. The fuzzies is when a kitten begins to grow longer guard hairs which disguise the spots from a front view, but the beautiful markings can still be seen from behind." Due to the softness and unusually beautiful markings/colorings of the Bengals coat, it is referred to as a pelt coat, most likely due to the original pelts of Asian leopard cat who is the Bengal cats wild ancestor.
