08.01.2022 -- REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020 -- Each year, at 11am on 11 November, Australians pause for one minutes silence in memory of all those who have died in wars, conflicts and peace operations around the world. On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of th...e Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defenses at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. It's an important time to pause and reflect on the important role Australia played in that war and continue to play around the world. https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance-dayREMEMBER
04.01.2022 Welcome to the Alkira Senior Arts Exhibition for 2020. We would like to congratulate the students on their focus and resilience during the difficult time of remote learning this year. The students produced work to the best of their creative abilities. The Arts Domain is very proud of how each and every student took on the challenge of VCE in 2020. The senior exhibition is one of the highlights of the year, where students display their year's work and it's a time where they can reflect and feel satisfaction in seeing the end result of their efforts. Please enjoy looking through the amazing work produced in 2020 Studio Art and Visual Communication Design classes.
