A great big thank-you to families that have donated to let you know that it have been gratefully received and will be used well. This will the the start of a great link between our 2 agencies.

17.01.2022 PLAY is so important for our little champions and the positions we place them in during play is also vital for their participation, access and communication. Not only does it increase their participation, access and communication but the positions your child plays in can assist them with their strength, endurance, skin integrity, balance, breathing, spinal health and digestion. For example a kiddo who may have additional postural needs being placed in a suppo...rted seating position can improve their: Ability to communicate - In supported seating they will be able to use their breathing and tummy muscles better to produce sound and also their arms or head if they are using assistive devices (such as an iPad, sign language or eye gaze) Use their arms to play with toys and learn to feed themselves - With their trunk supported they will be able to just focus on using their arm muscles to manipulate objects, play with food, and make a fun mess Explore their environment and interact with others - In seating they will be able to see all the fun things around them, experience all the senses, and interact with other people on a more active level, which is all super important for our development. Below are some great examples of different positions you can try at home:

13.01.2022 A taster of what’s on offer at our clinic moving sale Sat at 8-10.30 176 Campbell street See you there !!!!

13.01.2022 These two besties have been participating in a gross motor group session with their physiotherapist (which involves way too much giggling). Not only have they shown amazing improvements in their balance, strength, coordination and endurance but also built a long lasting bond. In this activity the girls were making treasure maps and practicing their high kneeling. High kneeling is a simple but amazing activity to work on core, trunk, gluteal, quadricep and hamstring strength while practicing that all important balance. It is also a great position for our little ones to practice when they are learning to transition from the floor to standing.

08.01.2022 SUPER STAR OF THE WEEK This little man here has been working incredibly hard over the past year. He is now able to hold his head up, roll and reach for toys when on his tummy! All of these are great foundational skills to build off of to reach his ultimate goal of being as independent as possible. At Allsorts we LOVE sharing these kind of moments with our families. Little man here got to trial a standing frame and for the first time he got to experience standing! Standi...ng frames are great for development of the hips and lower limbs but MORE IMPORTANTLYit provides opportunities for this little guy to experience independent upright postures. This will OPEN UP his world to engage in age appropriate play, increase his cognitive development and provide opportunities to participate in everyday activities with his family (i.e. helping cook in the kitchen). I mean...just look at him he is loving standing! Thanks for sharing this moment with us!

06.01.2022 Communication Super Star This little guy has been working extra hard in his therapy sessions over the last few months. He is currently learning how to play games, access his videos and communicate with family and friends through eye gaze technology on his brand new Tobii Dynavox I-16. Trust us, using your eyes to control a computer is not as easy as it may seem.... Eye gaze is one of the alternative ways people with physical challenges can access and control electronic devices. It works by tracking a person’s eye positions and movements across the screen to accurately determine where they are looking. When combined with communication software, eye gaze devices empower people to communicate with others independently. It is truly amazing to hear what children have to say when given the opportunity. We are so proud of this little guy and all of his achievements!

05.01.2022 This week I want to celebrate Darcy’s achievements - he has just won a prize in therapy for mastering the word koala, his favourite animal Darcy has a diagnosis of CAS- Childhood Apraxia of speech which means that there is a breakdown of the messages sent from his brain to his muscles resulting in a struggle to string together sounds.....so the word KOALA is particularly difficult for Darcy Great job Darcy... To find out more about CAS you can visit the CAS Australia website at casaustralia.org

03.01.2022 We are little late on WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY! So here is a cute little guy enjoying his hydro session with our physio Jo to brighten your day! "This little champ has his first ever experience in a pool last week with his physiotherapist! Young R has been working hard on his tummy time and sitting balance, and is now able to practice his skills in the water (while giggling his way through the play based session) Hydrotherapy is a form of therapy where therapist...s are able to use the properties of the water as a tool. The pressure of the water promotes body awareness and sensory regulation, while buoyancy and waves in the water assists and resists movement patterns. The water also aids relaxing muscles, reducing pain, stimulating blood flow, and helping digestion. It is a great way to promote engagement and fun while working towards the kiddos gross motor goals.
