21.01.2022 "Tasmania is calling and I must go." ~ Whether you seek our wilderness and wild lands, stunning coastal beaches or beautiful wildlife it is all here waiting ...to be explored There is little wonder why Wineglass Bay is continuously ranked in the Top 10 beaches in the world, you will be captivated by one of the Maria Island locals doing a little yoga by the sea, Eddystone Point is an amazing spot to slow down and look at the sea for hours, summer days at Bridport beach are a must and dawn at Jeanneret Beach is simply magical. Camping on top of the Organ Pipes well the view doesnt get much better than this, Knyvet Falls in full flow is quite a spectacle, Halls Falls near Pyengana in Tassies far north-east is a gem worth finding, you can walk for miles along sugar-white sandy beaches and swim in the impossibly clear ocean at Taylors Beach, whilst Mt Cameron is surely Gods country. Oh and did we mention we save the best view for last and trust us this part of the world is truly something special We love to share your Tassie videos, photos and stories with the world You can inbox us or post to our wall. 19.01.2022 Our happiest moments as tourists always seem to come when we stumble upon one thing while in pursuit of something else. ~ Lawrence Block During your trave...ls throughout Tasmania... you will forever be surprised at the beauty you stumble across. Parsons Falls in the alpine region of the Central Plateau is breathtakingly beautiful, your eyes will light up at this magical view from high above Wineglass Bay, you will love the seclusion of the pristine and untouched Cloudy Bay on Bruny Island, the Tessellated Pavement on the Tasman Peninsula are the result of a rare type of natural erosion and are found only in a few places on Earth and who doesnt love to see a couple of fur seals cuddling. You will always remember the beautiful array of colours during sunset over Binalong Bay, we share a never seen before photo of Pencil Pine Falls during a moonlit night, a moody Tasmanian forest at Henry Somerset Reserve is something special, the crystal clear aqua waters at Two Tree Point on Bruny Island is a must visit and St Helens Point in our far north-east features many great short walks, beaches and sand dunes. Oh and did we mention there is an abundance of cuteness overload on Maria Island and you will always retell the heart-warming story of Rhonda the bare-nosed wombat who was orphaned when she was just the size of a grapefruit We love to share your Tassie videos, photos and stories with the world You can inbox us or post to our wall. 10.01.2022 WOW... amazing scenes from the Hobart waterfront today A Southern Right Whale in the Derwent River!!! Southern Right Whales migrate north from June to Septe...mber to the waters of southern mainland Australia and return southward between September and late October. A proportion of the population gives birth in Tasmanian waters. Most Southern Right Whale sightings occur on Tasmanias east coast. Although this may be due to the higher population of human observers in the east, its likely that the humpback and southern right whales prefer the calmer waters of the east coast. Frederick Henry Bay and Great Oyster Bay on the east coast are both excellent vantage points for whale watching. It is rare indeed for the Southern Right Whale to swim up the DEntrecasteaux Channel, past Bruny Island, and into the Derwent River. The Southern right whale is one of three whales listed as endangered under Tasmanias Threatened Species Protection Act 1995. The blue, humpback and southern right (Eubalaena australis) whales are also classified as nationally endangered under the Federal Act. These whales became endangered as a direct result of the commercial whaling industry. They were called right whales by whalers because they were the right or best whales to kill. One reason for this is that their large amount of fat made them float after harpooning, so that they were easy to collect. They are also very slow swimmers and docile enough to approach. Most importantly they were full of the highly prized oil used for lighting, heating, cosmetics and crayons. There are still many threats to our whales even without hunting. They are very slow to grow and reproduce and their numbers are very low. Southern right whales may number just a few thousand worldwide. They only produce one calf every three years and take about ten years to reach breeding age. We need to minimise all the threats to their survival. A whale Hotline is available to report sightings and strandings. The Phone number is 0427 WHALES (0427 942 537) We love to share your Tassie videos, photos and stories with the world You can inbox us or post to our wall.
