25.01.2022 Mellie (T Merope - 7 months).

25.01.2022 Seems there's a neat thing to do in Saratoga Springs in New York; it's called 'count the painted ponies'. Rumour has it that there are around 2 dozen of them in various locations.

21.01.2022 The simple feed bin and its dangers! We humans look upon horses as having the same likes and creature comforts as us, unfortunately we think we are doing the ri...ght thing when in fact it is most problematic for our equine friends. Lets start off with the feed bin itself. We are programmed by advertising and the latest fads of feed bins, especially the ones that are gate feeders or hang up high. In the horses natural environment you will not see them eating high off the ground, they are ground foragers and their body and teeth are designed perfectly for this way of life. So why change it? I want you all to eat your lunch or dinner with your head tucked into your neck, you will feel the muscles that are strained and its hard to chew and swallow, same for our horse. It creates massive issues with teeth as they are not grinding evenly, horses have more adrenaline with their heads up, so ulcers or colic are caused. The natural way a horse eats has a chiropractic effect throughout its whole body keeping them in optimum health. You see they dont need our help to be better, they were made perfect the way they are! If I hear feeding my horse up high produces a top line I will scream! So buy a decent feed bin that want tip, there are plenty on the market that are brilliant. Location of feed bins and how this affects my horse? Again we build our friends lovely warm stables or shelters for them to either live in or eat in. My best advice is get your feed bin out in the open were your horse has 100% vision of his surroundings. So many horses are fed in a corner or the back of yards, stables or shelters. What occurs here is our horse takes a mouthful of food and looks out to the open space, they are flight creatures so rely heavily on sight of predators or danger. Why is this an issue? Well 9 times out of 10 your horse can only look one way, therefore only eating on one side of its jaw and not the other. This creates huge issues in your horses mouth and you end up with a wedge/slant mouthed horse, your turning on one side will be nonexistent as the horse cant turn without opening his mouth up to slide his jaw across. And apart from that your horse will be in huge amounts of pain with a constant headache from bone on bone. So my advice from the horses mouth is! Go buy a decent feed bin that is on the ground and feed your horse out in the open. Keep it normal/natural for your horses dont get mixed up in humanizing or the latest fads. Next article we will look into chaff versus hay and the moisture content in feed and what can we do? Pictures are all of wedge/slant mouths Article written by Olivia Zulian copyright

15.01.2022 Well, who woulda thought lol :/

09.01.2022 Just saw this pretty little trinket box online. And they've spelt palomino correctly too. Bonus!!

08.01.2022 How is this for a Thoroughbred of a different color? Eternal Idol, registered as a true PALOMINO, just ran 6th in the 7th race at Pleasanton at Oak Tree in Cali...fornia. It was the first start for this four-year-old colt. The Jeff Bonde trainee comes from a line of palomino Thoroughbreds through his sire, RFF Golden Justice, who is a tail male descendant of the great sire Prince John. Interestingly, the color gene seems to come from a single mare in the fourth generation, Lucky Two Bits. She is noted as a "buckskin" (although any so-called buckskin TB would be registered as "bay" with the Jockey Club). Lucky Two Bits is a granddaughter of the Epsom Derby winner Blenheim, also one of the greatest sires of the 20th century. You have to wonder who passed on these cool color genetics?!?! We have to say, we would sure like to see this guy show up at the Thoroughbred Makeover some day! :) Don't forget that tickets are now available for the 2015 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium held October 23-25 at the Kentucky Horse Park. It is the only national gathering for Thoroughbred lovers from all disciplines and falls the weekend before the Breeders Cup. 02.01.2022 Exciting news for dilute stallion owners and breeders. Do you own a dilute stallion or breed dilutes? The Australian Dilute Stallion and Studs Directory promises to be the most comprehensive directory of Australian dilute stallions and breeders yet but to be that, it needs the support of as many palomino, buckskin, dun, silver, champagne, cremello, perlino, pearl, smokey black (black buckskin/dilute black) and smokey cream stallion owners as possible. This publication is inte...nded to be the 'go to' reference for mare owners looking for dilute stallions and 'would be' dilute owners looking for their own special dilute to buy. Full, half and quarter page colour advertising spaces are available at very reasonable prices. Or you can have your stud listed in the Stud Listing for just a few $$s. Distribution will be entirely electronic to cut down on costs to our advertisers; all advertisers will be emailed a copy or provided with the link to download a copy and it will also be available to the general public via Facebook and several TBA websites.
