21.01.2022 A true friend comes swimming to warm up."Can you see my brown fat in this?" "https://eurekalert.org/pub_releas/2020-04/tes-pwb042320.php What powers our immune system? "Short-term cold exposure may help people with brown fat burn 15 percent more calories than those without.... Unlike white fat, brown fat burns calories through fatty acid oxidation and heat production and is considered a promising target in the fight against the obesity epidemic. The biggest activator of brown fat is moderate cold exposure. The researchers identified two groups using a PET scan--those with and without active brown fat. They analyzed brown fat function and energy expenditure in these individuals before and after short-term cold exposure finding that the group with active brown fat not only burned significantly more calories but had a healthier fatty acid blood profile." 15.01.2022 Make the most of the thriving weeds in your garden ... we make a mean pesto with our Stinging nettles once theyve been blanched. I was prompted to do a little probing for some natural support to ease Hay Fever symptoms after speaking with clients today dreading the arrival of the blooms of spring. I found many anecdotal claims that Stinging Nettles help to reduce hay fever symptoms. Does anyone know of any science that would support this ... Georgina Robertson?

10.01.2022 AAHA Kahuna bodyworker Julie Christie shares her insights of isolation ... Day 30 - Chooseday 21st April 2020 Today I choose me.. it hasnt always been that way, but after 30 days of Covid confinement, I have a new habit - ME ... They say it takes on average, more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic 66 days to be exact, but Im a fast learner when left alone and unsupervised. Anyhoo, suffice to say, I havent had a choice, it hasnt all been rosy & Ive had some really awful, ugly, wallowing moments & financial stress. However, Im optimistic (& fingers crossed for Friday) Ill be back in clinic giving love to YOU ALL again very soon! The biggest challenge this virus thingy presented me with is choosing what to do each day.. Actually choosing what I wanted to do, not things I should be, could be, asked to, needed to, for others, or my usual scheduled busyness.. or to earn. Just simply, choose to do things my own heart and soul wanted to do, in the moment, unplanned. For Me. Some days I slept, and read, then slept more. Occasionally, I cooked, created and ate, continuing to food coma - I actually think Ive forgotten what hungry feels like. Several days I walked and walked barefoot, on the sand, for hours, beach combing, breathing salty air, cuddling friendly canines, soaking up the sunshine and vitamin sea. Many days I meditated, stretched, danced and physically exhausted myself digging, cleaning & gardening. Everyday I pottered about, no routine, no clock watching, watering plants, plucking weeds from seedlings, watching birds, bees and butterflies, talking to myself, my plants, and the occasional person who checked in with me. I took myself on country drives to change my scenery, purchase locally grown produce, and handfeed livestock on roadsides, for some warm blooded touch & interaction. I have actually re-discovered what I love to do, in my spare time, 30 whole days of it.. not in stolen moments in a planned day, week or month. Not rushed. Not half assed or half finished. Simple joys. Being in the moment. For pleasure & purpose. What it is to be a human BEing. Connected to nature. Allowing the universe to unfold uncontrolled. Me, myself & I. Body, mind, & spirit.

08.01.2022 Wise words from our in house Naturopath and Herbalist Georgina of "Earth to Essence Naturopathy " ... fascinating to learn about the healing properties of Spinifex and Banksia. ~ ~ ~ Immersing myself in the Australian bush - pausing to appreciate every little detail, sight, sound and smell has really helped to keep me grounded, connected and resilient during this strange time.... Like many of you, no doubt, this past month has challenged me, mentally and emotionally, in a major way. Ive worked through the entire roller coaster everything from disbelief, anger, resignation and despondency, to feeling isolated of course. Thankfully now Im feeling greater acceptance - almost relief - and with it, experiencing peace, calm and contentment. This past month or so has really highlighted to me the importance of nurturing all the pillars of health physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual. To accept and embrace the big PAUSE to invest in self-care. To nurture my soul and do what makes me happy. And so, this is what it looks like for me connecting back with the Earth. Going slow, bathing in the sunshine, breathing in the air, smelling the Eucalypts, appreciating the bees in the Banksias. With great respect for plant medicine and the powerful healing qualities of Australias native flora, a walk through the bush like our gorgeous Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park brings me back, time and time again, to a place of emotional balance and wellbeing. I love to identify the native plants and think about their unique emotional healing qualities. Like Spinifex, which helps to overcome a sense of victimhood and bring about greater empowerment. Or Banksias, with their ability to combat fatigue and renew zest for life. Ive always found it interesting that, as individuals, were drawn to a particular plant, without necessarily understanding the reasons why at the time. But when you learn about that plants history, behaviour and properties, it often makes perfect sense! So, for me, connecting back with Mother Earth is immensely powerful and a key strategy for building resilience.

08.01.2022 Happy mothers day A big thank you to Davide Gaglio for recording this in April. Congratulations for creating Fleurieu Chat to keep our community connected and record this moment in history
